  1. If you state Jad is easy because some people have killed it with a chicken then the question whether you did this yourself becomes indeed relevant. There are people who can jump as far as 6-8 meters. I cannot do it. Most people cannot. Yet for some people it is easy. Like killing Jad with a chicken. That doesn't mean it is easy. The Bell curve comes into play here; a statistical distribution. Most values are rather close together on this curve. This is what is normal. Only a small percentage have extreme values: either low or high. See below. http://www.greatdrivingchallenge.com/ee/images/uploads/bellcurve2.gif The person that killed the Jad with a rubber chicken is probably on the extreme end of the curve. The fact that this person can do it (and probably after some tries) doesn't mean it can be defined as easy based on a normal parameters. For an exceptional person (someone lying on the far side of the curve) it may be easy. That doesn't make it easy for everybody. The fact that most people need at least a few tries to do Jad suggest actually that Jad is difficult. Similar to people finding Jad easy, there is also a small group who find Jad impossible. That's the other end of the curve. They are probably hopeless cases. Personally I have noticed that I am gaining the skill needed to defeat Jad. In my latest attempt I didn't make a single mistake in prayer switching until the Healers came. Then i made an error. I targeted a healer that was too far away and of course I came to close to Jad. He hit me with melee. Something for which i was unprepared. Then I messed up two rounds later. Yet I realized now what I need to do. I need to walk around Jad and target the healers. And don't panic. So next time I might succeed. Still, extreme people make everything seem easy. Yet that person who killed Jad with a rubber chicken might not be able to knit a sweater. It might be too difficult for him. Here his talent isn't suited. In conclusion: Easy isn't defined by the ability of a talented person to do the task. It is defined by the ability of an average person, or even a below average person to do a task.
  2. Have you ever killed Jad with a rubber chicken yourself?
  3. yes, i think luck plays a big part in this fight, since I am convinced I only beat him this time because I got lucky with ruby (e) hits. I had done the exact same thing before and failed. But then again by practicing a few dies I had the pot drinking under better control.
  4. That's funny, I actually hardly had to take saras after he went beserk. In fact, I was worried about the berserk face before I started, but that turned out the most easy part. I had piety on of course all the time.
  5. I used... neitz helm Fury black d'hide Bandos tassets (didn't want to use verac skirt because of degrading when dieing). Range boots Unholy book avas accumulator archer's ring Rune c bow ruby (e) Zamorakian spear. War tortoise filled with saras Inventory filled with saras, a few restores and a few super restores for prayer. --- I first just ranged him with rub (e) till he went berserk. Then I switched to zamorakian spear. I drank an overload dose at the bank chest so I would not need to restore much the first 5 minutes. Topped up HP before I went in. I never managed when I just did melee, or just did range. However, first ranging and then meleeing worked a lot better.
  6. Let's start with some introduction before I come to my point. My slayer level is 99. I didn't get a dark beast task till I hit level 95. Was it bad luck? No, it was unavoidable. I didn't do the required quests to be allowed to dark beasts, which included of course a pretty difficult quest (if you don't use a guide). Actually many slayer beasts were not part of my slayer experience. No warped terrorbirds, no mutated bloodvelds, no goraks, not even dusties etc. However, at slayer level 95 I decided to raise my quest points from about 150 to 270. So I could do tormented demons. Ironically it turned out that I am really bad at prayer switching. I just can't master it. I managed to kill 2 tormented demons before I gave up. I went back to slayer and noticed how my slayer experience had changed. I used to get always the same set of quite nice assignments; lots of abbysal demons and black demons. But after doing all these quests I suddenly was confronted with all these new tasks. I adapted and reached 99 slayer. 1-99 slayer took me as long as slayer came out. So, yes, a casual player can reach 99 slayer. Now let's get to the crux of the story. Is it unfair that you need to kill Jad to do a slayer monster? I think not. And moreover, I do not have a firecape! I do have 99 slayer. I had set myself already the goal to get a firecape before the update came out. I had already close to 10 attempts at jad under my belt before the update. I failed each and every time due to faulty prayer switching at Jad. I am not only incompetent at prayer switching at tormented demons, I also am no good at Jad. It's not problem reaching Jad. It takes 4-5 prayer pots and some broad bolts. No problem here. It's Jad himself. I tried the different techniques. For some reason I still put up wrong the wrong prayer once in a while. And to be honest, I can't pinpoint the reason. I actually think I judge the sounds right, or the animation. But apparently I do not. I do not get upset that I can't do the new highest level strykwyrm. It could be because I only occasionally do slayer at the moment and I haven't even been assigned a strykewyrm task yet. However, for many slayer monsters you actually HAVE to do a quest to access them. I got used to that idea quite early in my slayer experience. I never did desert treasure because I didn't feel like going to the desert to do dusties. Later the chaos tunnels came and still I couldn't access them. I actually had to do another quest for them to be assigned. Not being able to do slayer monster is a standard. A requirement for slayer monsters is normal. The requirement is either a quest, a slayer level or a piece of equipment. Or a combination of these. The firecape is just a piece of equipment. In my opinion there is nothing special about this requirement. Ps. I will continue to try to do Jad. Experience will start counting at one point, and if not, then luck will prevail eventually. Moreover, the first part of fight caves is quite relaxing. It's just ranging experience albeit not at the highest rate possible. (btw, I did manage to do Nomad's requiem :) )
  7. It's probably faster to range black demons from safespot in taverly dungeon, because then you can target 4+ demons at the same time. I certainly have the impression it is a lot faster.
  8. I usually wear verac's + whip/defender when tanking them. Add a bunyip for steady healing. And SGS for topping up HP and prayer. When they get lucky with hitting you just slap on the protection prayer. Let the bunyip/sgs heal you. Turn off protection prayer. If you get lucky you won't use a prayer pot. If you get unlucky you might use 1 or 2 prayer pots. Still a lot better than a ton of prayer pots. Super pots or extreme pots recommended of course. You can also heal with unicorn and not use prayer at all, but it is slightly expensive. Better to put on prayer for a while. If you hit nicely with the SGS you can do this even for free.
  9. The fire cape fits of course with the new tasks from kuradal, which includes the fight caves special. So it isn't really a weird requirement if you start thinking about it.
  10. Because I am a n00b with high level boss monsters. (99 slayer)
  11. For some reason I have been trying to get a firecape for the last week. No such luck/skill. I'm at wave 57 right now. Maybe it will work this time. I actually took a break from Jad, to do nomad's requiem. That also took me 10 tries. But I managed that in the end.
  12. When I don't know what to do I check my stats and see what's close to the next level. Then I just go for that. Usually takes just one day, although it is getting harder and harder since the lowest skill is now 60.
  13. I tried now 10 times. Got very close only once. It seems to depend a lot on luck. That is how often the ruby special hits. Very frustrating.
  14. Yes, if you stay put in a safespot.
  15. Depends on what you like to do. Slayer...then yes.
  16. Personally I got annoyed with repairing barrows armour. And when you have the GP you better spend it on something. I still use barrows armour for specific purposes though: karils for magic defense. Verac skirt for prayer bonus. etc. You can actually have both bandos and barrows and have best of both worlds!! HOORAH!
  17. The only rare drop that might be worthwhile is the gem drop. I have had them in copious quantities doing 99 slayer. I only had 2 or 3 d Meds, and 2 d spears. The last two weren't worth wearing the ring. But maybe the gems make a difference? I just wonder how much more gems you pick up with a RoW and if that could possibly the only reason to wear it. I'm definitely not going to wear my RoW any more though. It seems pretty useless.
  18. 1) If players have never been in any clans, how would their reasoning be that they've had bad experience with clans, considering they have never been in any clans? How can you say you don't like something if you have never tried it. If the mere thought of joining a clan is already a negative one, then indeed we did have negative experiences with clans. But I think they might mean that they have dealt with people who are part of clans. And this experience was bad. I'm a dinosaur btw.
  19. That makes me doubt that Abyssal whip with Rune defender is better. Well, whip and rune defender was even a lot faster than zammy spear. No competition. The defense of Irons is apparently not that high to warrant the stab attack over the better slash bonuses of whip and defender. In fact I was bitterly disappointed with the performance of the zammy spear. i worked my way to super antifires for the specific reason I could rip through metal dragons with a zammy spear. Then I go there and notice the spear isn't ripping at all. And then I compare it with whip and defender..and that does rip a lot better. See my original topic http://forum.tip.it/topic/252735-stab-myth-metal-dragons/page__view__findpost__p__4002545
  20. Iron dragons are better with whip and defender/DFS than zammy spear. Even SGS is faster. Yes, I tested it with super anti-fires.
  21. I agree, not using a slayer helm would be silly. It gives a huge bonus.
  22. I went to the other side, used a rune pickaxe on the hole and I get this message: "the rubble is too compact for you to dig through from this side." I am starting to consider throwing my computer out of the window. Especially since I had forgotten to take tele runes, and just had used the lumbie free tele. I walk back to the cellar. Use the pickaxe on the hole. And now it suddenly works! I think I am going crazy. Unless you first need to examine the hole from the other side to be able to dig through it from the cellar side. This was frustrating. Anyway...hole is open now. edit: or it was the standing back. I actually stood one square further this time than with the original attempt.
  23. Ah, didn't try it like that. I will give it a go.
  24. From the tip.it guide: I don't seem to have an option to "mine" that shortcut. I tried it with pickaxe in inventory, selecting it and using it on the shortcut, as well as wielding it. I've been standing there and trying it for 10 minutes. What am I missing???
  25. Hmm, but I did that quest. I am confused.
