eReaders & eBooks
I'd be careful before you jump on that bandwagon and double check books. I considered doing that as my shelf space is running dry of about 30 books i can get like 3 as ebooks. I have looked at some of them and admittedly not all are on there BUT, to be frank, a lot of the novels I've collected are teenage fiction ones which I used to read a lot but now not so often. I'll keep my physical copies here, but I'm more interested in getting new books, in a way, and reading some of the classics that I've never gotten around to reading but should.

eReaders & eBooks
Well I'm figuring that since I'm going to be moving into University accommodation next year, saving on book space might be a good idea. I am slightly worried about the weather, though (as all good Brits are). I want to be able to use my kindle/eReader wherever I go and frequently when you go anywhere in England it's raining, I heard that you can get (albeit expensive) waterproof cases and also that clear plastic ziplock bags are just as good, does anyone know anything about that? :P

Fluorescent vs normal lightbulbs
This is one of the stranger topics I've seen here on OT... I dunno, but having to change lightbulbs secretly is rather bizzare :P

My dad is a [developmentally delayed]. He got flashed by a speedcamera for speeding the other month and we've got a letter through from the Police asking my mum for details about who was driving since the car is in my mum's name, even though she can't drive. She's not pleased with him at all since he's already got about 9 points on his licence, I think. He's just an idiot, speeding and risking his licence and job over this >.< He's probably going to get banned if they do him for speeding again. Utterly ridiculous.

eReaders & eBooks
What do people here think of eReaders and eBooks? At first I was very sceptical about how useful it really would be something like that, there's nothing wrong with good old fashioned books and you don't need a £100 device to do it. But, after reading up on the Kindle and stuff - I've decided to get one for Christmas. I was just wondering though, if anyone here has an eReader and if they do, is it worth it? Or if you don't have one then why not?

What happened to this community?
I believe that the community is what it is, it's not just central to Tip.It, it's just what Runescape has moved to. And as much as I dislike the movement towards super-efficiency, it doesn't really stop me playing how I want to. I don't know ye olde community, but over the past 2 years I've seen it change a lot. I figure that just staying the same as always, trying to maintain a nice, friendly community is the best thing I can do to make things 'better'. I think that if we need to become the change that we want to see (I'm sure I'm paraphrasing a quote there) since we ARE a part of that community that we're calling so degenerate.

DERP HERP Y U CUT WILLOW *or any log thats not ivy* WHEN UR 99 HERPPP
I don't mind people asking me why I'm doing x tree when I'm WCing for say... shattered heart. BUT the thing that DOES annoy me is perpetuated ignorance like, someone has said in this thread, people saying I should be doing mages. No... they're fun to cut once in a while since they're all sparkly but they're not good money OR good xp and I hate people saying that they are =/ Also, if you WC without chat on you'll get people calling you a bot, not that you'd know of course since you can't hear them :P

A historical moment is drawing near
You have such an absurd paranoia with thread derailment. If you have something interesting to add, add it. We can't have a new thread for every idea. Discuss what flows naturally out of a topic. If you started talking about sports in this thread, I would say you derailed it. But talking about experience rates in a thread about skill-maxing...that sounds acceptable to me. You bring up a noteworthy point on what constitutes thread derailment. I agree that confining the discussion to the parameters of the thread established in the opening post would seriously limit conversation potential. Perhaps we need a more elaborate analysis of acceptable tangents of discourse within a single topic I'm just wary of taking a thread off on a tangent because it's very easy to get people drawn into arguments that *aren't* really about the main topic at hand. Wether or not Cooking or Dungeoneering is an easier skill isn't really the topic of this thread and it's not hard for people to become embroiled in an argument about it.

24-Nov-2010 - Tasks and Skill Targets
Imagine this for lower level players, though. Newbies starting the game would find that sort of money invaluable! Depends on if we want the game that easy for noobs or not. You mean newbies? Well when you're at a low level even if you have that sort of money it's unlikely there's gonna be *very* much use for it yet. It's just a nice start, I think, saves them from running around asking for geepees.

Does Jagex really know its own game?
I don't think you really understand the combat triangle tangent if you think it's off topic. The point is that the combat triangle is one blatant example of Jagex just not getting it. Not only is the combat triangle unbalanced, but they seem perfectly happy to CONTINUALLY make melee more and more powerful every chance they get and only rarely follow up with something for ranged or magic. Chaotic weapons are an excellent example- if Jagex had any idea how their combat system actually operates, they'd know that the chaotic melee weapons are revolutionary new ways to kill people and monsters, whereas the staff (5% extra damage vs. no rune saving, repair charges, AND no special attack means it's worse than staff of light for all but the most extreme situations where damage is everything) and crossbow (a little extra accuracy but no extra damage or speed is not remotely comparable to the power of the melee weapons) are at best novelty items, being only very slightly better than their counterparts and being lost over things like mystic robes in PvP. Before that, curses came out with turmoil and soul split, but only the horribly ineffective leech ranged and leech mage curses (while melee was already overpowered). Before that, there were d claws (while melee was already overpowered). Before that, godswords AND Bandos armor came out while ranged got Armadyl armor (okay but nothing compared to Godswords and Bandos) and mage got... steam staves (all this while melee was already overpowered). Before that, whips (while melee was already overpowered). Melee is buffed and buffed and buffed while magic and ranged make do with crumbs, comparatively. And then Jagex has the gall to explain that balancing the combat triangle is a touchy issue and requires a lot of thought... sure, I get that, but is it so hard to stop making it ACTIVELY WORSE over and over and over? Looking at all of this, there's no way to argue that Jagex has any sort of cohesive view of the way their own game works. Their actions are inscrutable at best and idiotic at worst. I have no problem with using the combat triangle as an example, I agree that it's horribly unbalanced, but the point is not to make this into a discussion ABOUT the combat triangle - which it is. That's all I was saying. I heard mention in the thread earlier that Jagex are fighting the past and I think that's very true. They have years upon years of content, a lot of it just layered on top of past content so even if they do realise 'crap, melee is ridiculously overpowered, there's a LOT of work that has to go into fixing it because a lot of these mistakes were made in the past and since then new content has come out which uses the old and of course, we know how well the community takes to Jagex changing anything - particularly when it relates to combat. Jagex are stupid for not fixing problems like this but if they took the time out to do it then you'd have people complaining at the lack of updates, it's just a big lose lose situation.

At Uni right now, bored out of my head waiting for this Web Page Design lesson to end. Everyone is just starting their assignment of a 6-8 page website and I've practically finished! I just wish this lesson wasn't stuck between two others otherwise I could make good use of it like... sleeping or something.

Does Jagex really know its own game?
Lets try not to make this into a discussion about the combat triangle. Tbh I think that people are far too harsh on Jagex, as always. Of course they know their own game, but they just can't know how EVERY single player plays the game. You might think that you're representative of the general RS population but you're really quite not and not everyone plays the same and thinks the same as you. Sure, Jagex make mistakes (plenty of them) but that just means that they're human, not that they're clueless.

A historical moment is drawing near
Admittedly it isn't anywhere near as boring as cooking, but xp levels depend on HOW you play it. If you're more relaxed, like I am, you won't get the sort of xp rates that you get when cooking. I don't want to derail the thread, though :P

A historical moment is drawing near
>Dungeoneering is easier than 99 cooking. What? How is cooking, a skill extremely easy to buy and get 99 in, easier than the complex skill of Dungeoneering?

Consumerism thread
Skypephone S1 Bought it when I wanted to stay in contact all the time with a friend from Ireland. Only cost £30, pretty basic but it's cool. Got it about 2 years back now, considering getting a new phone tbh but I don't want a contract and I love the current provider I have. My 3 sim gets 600 free texts on £10 top up, which means I only have to top up once every 3 months - bloody bargain.

Commuting
I hardly ever go anywhere in a car, I always use my legs and the bus. I take the bus to Uni. It's a 30 minute ride and the stop is less than 5 mins walk away. It is a bit of a trek but it's not too bad. I'm considering moving into accommodation next year though, which means my journey would be more like 10 mins walking.
