Is RuneScape filling a void?
Addiction? Not so much addiction, rather a feeling that I should be playing since I'm paying. If I were F2P I wouldn't feel the 'need' to play. Also my various commitments here make me feel like I should be playing.

Is RuneScape filling a void?
It's rather the opposite - Runescape is creating a void in my life now that I've far less time to play it. It's there, niggling at me, wanting to be played. I'm barely spending an hour or so on it a day and I hate that... so I feel bad when I'm not playing - thus creating a void.

This Rule Makes No Sense, Honestly
But 1.) How many people would know and 2.) Why would it matter. It doesn't matter how many people would know, the fact is that they WOULD know. And it does matter because posting in another language doesn't mean you can suddenly start breaking rules on language or insults.

Should the Internet remain anonymous?
I just find the idea distasteful. I'd be reluctant to let my true feelings be felt because, after all, they could easily be spouted back at me by someone who just wants to get revenge on me IRL. Even now there's an extremely thin veil between my online and IRL self. It can take you seconds to find out my full name and my town, but I'm not being forced into doing that and I can control the information about me through my own choice. I could pretend to be someone else to protect my IRL identity from secrets that I wish to share but don't wish to be known... if you understand what I mean. If people hadn't been anonymous then that man would have still killed himself, just nobody would have known about it for a bit longer. The internet doesn't cause deaths, it's the people that use it. The internet can be a tool for greatness but it can also be used for evil. But just being anonymous doesn't make anyone a criminal.

Chile Miners Ready To Get Rescued
Or perhaps both women found a kindred spirit within one another, and now the miner has two chicks? You never know... Hahaha... haha... Yeah, doubt it. I think it's great they're being rescued and it's quite amazing in a way, staying down there for so long. They were under there for 17 days before being found... imagine that? 17 days alone in the pitch black scared that you'll be given up for dead or not even knowing that people know you're there. The media exposure over this is a bit... eh. I suppose 24 hr news doesn't have much else to broadcast though *shrugs*

Tip.It Times: October 10
And here I was thinking that I was special... turns out you guys hate everyone on the Times. Stormveritas is one of the best authors we have on this forum and I've never failed to enjoy one of his articles even if they're a different opinion to my own. Because that's what some of us do, listen to and enjoy other people's opinions and thoughts without feeling the need to barge in and attempt to belittle and destroy every point not exactly the same as our own. The article brings up some valid points and at the very least should make you notice the trend of minigames becoming a requirement of quests - whether you think that's good or bad is your own opinion. I'm getting fed up at the poor attitude of the community recently. Calling articles horrific or disgraceful is a little bit of an overreaction don't you think? Authors have feelings too. There wouldn't even BE articles for you to read if people didn't volunteer their time and energy towards this. I really think that people should start acting with a little more respect.

Tip.It Times: October 10
I agree with both the articles in the Times this week :) I do find the idea of minigames becoming a requirement for quests a little jarring, to say the least. A few may not be a problem, but I think that it's because we've had two of these quests in a relatively short amount of time. Half a year isn't that long of a time when it comes to content development.

That's a hard lesson to learn.
Am I the only one that just doesn't... understand... how firefighters could just go 'lol we're gonna let your house burn down'? Maybe it's because I'm British, but in our country when there's a fire we like to put it out... Yes I know, blah blah blah taxes they didn't pay blah, but I bet you they would have paid afterwards if the firefighters had come and saved it... I just find it disgusting that people could just sit by and watch it without stopping it. At the most basic level, you should deal with an emergency FIRST - worry about insurance and payments later.

Yes, its a stunning similarity to you and your pro-efficiency buddys bashing the author. Its really just a group of people against another group of people, i'm not seeing the problem here. You don't see the difference between one group giving examples, and the others simply playing a "leave Brittney Spears alone"? I'm sorry. If you don't see the difference, there is little hope for you. I think you're getting a bit mixed up. I didn't 'call for my friends'. Wingless is on the Times, and edited the article, he's going to have an opinion on it. Miss_Suzumiya came when I was talking to her and told her that I was having problems with the Times. So I'd like to say that I take offence to the idea that my friends come 'running to my defence'. I didn't ask them to, and suggesting that only people who aren't my friends are allowed to think I'm being treated unfairly is, well, unfair. STRAW MAN DETECTED. Obt never said you called for your friends, he just said that they came, because they always do when criticism of your work is in any way present. As well, they never give any reason why criticism shouldn't be given, other then "OMG ITS NOT A BIG DEAL". Since you are using a straw man, your whole argument falls apart. I also don't see where you got the quote "Call for my friends". It seems non-existent, and a figment of your imagination. If it does exist, it isn't in this quote, or in this train of debate, as is as such irrelevant to this particular train of debate. Now do you see why I continue to complain about poor quality of the Times, when such simple logical fallacies are continually perpetrated. [/hide] I would almost agree with you. But here is the thing - Assumptions are present, but never stated. So I'd disagree with your second paragraph. One can't use assumptions, inference, or implications in a court of law, or debate, to hold anywhere near the same gravity which actual statements hold. You can't ASSUME what I meant with the same degree of certainty as what I actually said. As such, assuming someone perpetrated a crime is grounds for surveillance, and evidence gathering, but not for committing to jail as guilty. This isn't the court of law... I'm not on trial here. No matter how much it feels like I am. This is JUST a discussion topic for an article on Runescape... :-|

Could they have picked a worse world for Dung??
Yeah but the fact most are dungeoneering is the main problem. It doesn't matter what world was chosen.

You can suggest an article all you like, but I'm sure it would be better for you to write it. A writer won't be as inclined to write about your things as much as they would theirs. Honestly, people are taking offence at such slight things, are you all newbs to the internet or something? Don't really want to begin writing a 1500 word article to find out that it won't be used =/. I think I'll try and write an article with a few buddies later, probably. Hmm We don't tend to do two-author projects, though of course it's not something out of the question. Maybe for something a little bigger than the efficiency debate. I think that an article written in that style would have been interesting for when Dungeoneering was released. We did consider a special 'Dungeoneering edition' of the Times, but decided that letting articles about Dungeoneering come naturally would be better than trying to force through several of them when the skill was brand new. You can suggest article ideas, but it's often hard for a writer to entirely grasp another person's ideas. You might want to just write it up yourself. Articles are generally a minimum of 600 words, so there's no worry about writing something so big as a 1500 word article! And though we don't guarantee articles will be used, we may well get around to it eventually. Guest articles are mostly used when we have a spot of trouble getting one of our own articles in on time, or the article is particularly good and also time sensitive. Something that we wouldn't want to go to waste by leaving it waiting for a while.

Of course not all of them were, but I can't spend the time going through every small point. Like I wrote already, I don't intend on writing an article only to have to write another article's worth of words in this topic on little things. Ideally, we don't want to be getting help from people just to stop their criticism. Something like what you're mentioning is something that needs to be discussed by the Editorial Panel it'self. And thank you for apologising, but calling the Times a circlejerk and such aren't going to get you anywhere if you're trying to make a legitimate point. NOTE: That was bladewing, not me. And I'd disagree TS. Several friends of Racheya, including in this case the OP, have done the same thing in the past. In which case this is rather a case of precedent, instead of guilt by association. My mistake, but the example of that sort of attitude till stands. And just because they're my friends, means they can't express their opinions? Wingless is ON the Times and does a lot of hard work editing and writing articles himself. Miss_Suzumiya is a friend of mine who, in fact, I'm more likely to argue with than anyone here. Just because they're friends and what to defend me against points that they see as genuinely bad things, doesn't mean they won't have their OWN opinions. Nor is is right to suggest that they can't express it. And what do you mean by the OP? As in the OP of this topic, me? O_o

Actually, you are wrong. It is completely normal to criticize an author, as well as his pieces, and style. CLEARLY you havn't read many reviews, sir. Here are some examples of different negative reviews: "I weep for the souls of the trees that died to make this book" "The occasional good parts of the book weren't really all that good at all; they just seemed that way by comparison to the other even-slower parts. I found the footnotes to be slightly more entertaining" etc Not to mention, the internet is a far different brand of media the newspapers, etc. An author needs to be ready to accept criticism. "But when people like Stonewall337 start disecting every single word we've written down, pulling it out of context and then blame us for the fact that it does not make sense, does not encourage us to get engaged in the conversation about our own articles" Show one quote I took out of context, instead of simply claiming I did so. He didn't say that it's wrong to criticise an author, he said bash. Specifically bash. Not criticise. Because criticism can be constructive and actually help. Your examples are, actually, not constructive criticism at all, rather just needless digs at an author. Just because other people do it, doesn't mean that it's nice or helpful or right. And what Vulxai said about criticism. It's very easy to ignore genuine help when it's paired with a needless insult. There's NO reason you need to bash someone, none.

I was going to go through a load of quotes but I've started University and, tbh, I don't have the time to argue all this. So, let me just make some points. Efficiency was chosen as a topic because it's something that I find to be interesting, as well as an active topic in the community. There is literally NOTHING to write up right now, updates wise. Without updates, it's often that ideas can run dry. I'm not a brilliant writer, I've never done any sort of professional writing and such. I don't have much experience outside of school and forums of writing 'articles'. My writing style may have improved over the last year or so but I know that it can be improved. Yes, I mean writing STYLE. Some people have made genuine suggestions and constructive criticism. Telling me that I have poor logic, crap skilsl and whatever else is not going to help. This brings me on to the next point - this constant nit-picky criticism. Don't take out every sentence that I write and construe it the way you want, to make some overall point that I'm apparently a really bad writer and person and that I should feel bad and be hated by everyone. I don't intend on writing an article then having to write another two article's worth of words in posts ARGUING with people. Yes, I enjoy actual discussion on the matter but more often than not I'm spending my time refuting nitty points and insults. The Times doesn't work on groupthink or whatever. We're not a circlejerk or whatever delightful insult you decided to use. Our editors are great people, they work objectively wether they're friends or not. In fact, my friends (namely Wingless) try extra hard to point out things where people might start an argument on, because they don't want it to happen. They'll take an extra critical eye to things. When I say things like 'many people' this and 'many people' that, I'm not trying to suggest that YOU or people YOU KNOW are like that. But, in fact, I have actually met and talked to people who have these opinions and feelings. I communicate a lot to people in Runescape and skilling can bring about a great chance to discuss updates and things about the game. Maybe you just don't know people who feel this way, but I'm not just trying to say 'many people' to try and verify my own opinion, when I might be using that to do the opposite. The article has opinions yes, because that's what the Times does. Do you want us to post 'This week Jagex made X update' with no opinions, ideas or original thoughts? Or is it just MY opinions that people don't like? Oh, and I've removed some of the posts from this page with people just spamming & trolling each other.
