  1. If you're at an auction, do you refrain from bidding because someone else already put in a bid? No? Why not? If you're auditioning for a part in a play, do you back out because someone else is trying out for that part already? No? Why not? Or, alternately: Exactly, it's rude to push people out of a spot, so if someone crashes you, the polite thing to do is to step aside and give them their turn. After all, if there's a long line behind you at the drinking fountain, it would be rude to stand there sipping for ten minutes while everyone else is waiting. I would like to challenge your bijection. Firstly everybody needs food. Nobody needs to hunt bosses. In real life, the degree to which you will put food to use is not measured by your ability to cut in line. Whereas your ability to hunt bosses is related (maybe not directly) to your ability to crash. Nobody benefits from you eating food. People benefit when you hunt bosses Because somebody, somewhere, wants a godsword or a claw. Such a people would benefit to have a higher level player/team hunt a boss.
  2. am I not allowed to use my intuition to say that it is more likely that Jagex considered gnomeball games as a possibility, than it is likely that Jagex considered pack yak altaring a possibility. (actually this is a bad example because a Jmod actually stated he did not know that pack yak altaring was possible when he accidentally nerfed it) Can we know for certain that electromagnetism exists? No, it's a principle of science. Therefore cannot be 100% proved. But we are confident it does because of our observations. Don't draw arguments based on knowing things based on 100% certainty. Challenge the confidence in my assumption that Jagex considered gnomeball games as a possibility, but not other forms of emergent gameplay. That or challenge my assertion that Jagex needlessly insulted a nontrivial part of their community by titling their article emergent gameplay, as opposed to "community support" or something else. Otherwise your response has no place in a productive discussion. My point was their article was offensive to a nontrivial part of the community. You seem to be talking about something else.
  3. The very fact that they called it an emergent gameplay report is what is ticking players off. There is a lot of pent up energy from players, due to the fact that Jagex tends to ignore goal based emergent gameplay. Then they make a dev blog called emergent gameplay, and address something completely unrelated. It's very insulting to the players who do use goal based emergent gameplay. Because yet again, their form of emergent gameplay has been ignored. Flaunting it as a dev blog just rubs salt in the wound. Nobody likes being ignored over and over and over. You're right, there's nothing wrong with the dev blog if we interpret it as a report on communities. But that's not why people are angry. Neither of us can know that with a reasonable degree of certainty. Are you asking me to believe that a game designer deliberately made a gnomeball reward that could be thrown around, and did not consider the possibility of player made games being formed by it? Sure it's possible, but I'd never wager my money on that sort of possibility.
  4. I don't think anybody here actually denies the existence of the activities Jagex mentioned. But they represent an extremely tiny portion of emergent gameplay. the fact of the matter is, most emergent gameplay that makes goals of the game come faster, as that form of emergent gameplay provides a more tangible benefit, and appeals to more gamers. this form of emergent gameplay is distinctly missing from the article, and ignoring it speaks poorly of Jagex' understanding of their players. A lot of the players gave examples of things that benefit goals, merely because that is the most common form of emergent gameplay. It doesn't mean other forms of emergent gameplay do not exist. on a separate note: Why would people making a ball game out of a gnomeball be emergent gameplay? Jagex let players throw it around outside of the gnomeball arena for a reason didnt they? Emergent gameplay would be using the gnomeball to lure players and snipe their Phats in the wilderness. Something that is clearly not intended.
  5. when I read the article, it was as if the jmod was trying to coerce me into doing more emergent gameplay by not so subtly offering suggestions. The examples given don't really make sense in the context of the typical RS gamer anyways. who is ever going to open a restaurant in their POH? or a "stripclub" as Jagex suggested <_<
  6. there should be some middle ground between a ban spree and quiet monitoring shouldn't there? or would quiet monitoring be the middle ground between ban spree and something else?
  7. 5-15 and they seem to be giving the same number of minerals. Thanks, would they average on 10? they give 5-24, so i'd assume a little more than 10 per kill. But judging by your signature, they're not really worth mining.
  8. I wouldn't quite define troll that way. Typically when I think of troll, I think of some sort of harassment.
  9. Mousekeys with rocktails at Cooking guild with Varrock hard done is 800-900k/hr and that's with profit. by mouse keys i presume you mean cooking them 1 at a time really really fast?
  10. Bladewing's not one to be uninformed. Just sitting around and waiting for someone else to contradict him probably isn't the best way to get information.
  11. i've been playing RS for ~ 8 years now and im still not 99 magic. What's the rush? You don't get anything new out of magic levels really, other than some extra magic defense in dungeoneering and maybe the ability to cast spells without boosting. aren't there other skills you want to level up too? other than magic? I'm sure you could find a way to train them simultaneuosly with magic. there are dozens of ways to train magic simultaneously with other skills. Training magic on its own seems like a waste.
  12. i wouldn't recommend going out of your way to level magic, considering you're already lvl 91. between LRC superheat, plankmaking while chopping teaks, etc. You'll get it to 99 eventually, and there's nothing really useful past 91 that couldn't be boosted to anyways.
  13. Good save. That +1 bonus < 10% spec kept what about berserker (i)'s =\
  14. This why is the wealth so bad? jagex confirmed that it only boosts the drop rates of items such as rune javelins, gems, crystal key parts, etc. a nice rule of thumb is: If the item can't be dropped by killing a lvl 2 man, then the ring of wealth won't help affect the drop rate of it. so it won't help whips, visages, dragon claws, etc.
  15. well i mentioned low levels twice. in regards to effigies, i would never use a dragonkin lamp on a skill lower than lvl 90. in regards to fish flingers, maximum experience rate occurs at ~ lvl 40-60. any higher and lower than that and you'll get less than 20k xp per 15 minute game. With a good CC world, you play actively for about 3-5 minutes. Then afk for the next 10 minutes. The concept of fishing spots doesn't exist there, nor does an inventory. So you literally don't need to click anything after you cast your reel.
  16. Wouldn't fire surge be the best? it takes less effort to do than either stun or plank make, and gives more xp per cast (and consequently more xp per brawler)
  17. I personally would not consider 99 herblore or prayer for lamps, as im 99 in both and fairly rich. Runecrafting is not a bad option for non-dragonkin-lamps. but once you're high level, you can assist other people's effigies for good xp. And dkin lamps aren't good at lower levels. that really leaves agility, mining, and fishing. Agility is click intensive, but can go up to 100k xp/hour with a good BA team. mining is only about 55-60k xp/hour, but you can LRC superheat. (but you might not need smithing/magic xp) Fishing is 40-50k xp/hour afk ish, to ~70k active xp rate. I would not use lamps on fishing at low fishing levels though, as fish flingers is up to 80k xp/hour, obscenely afkeable, and the xp rate actually decreases as fishing level increases. They're pretty comparable. But I'm personally planning on going with agility and mining. a blue crab/cave moray fishing spot in daemonheim is a rate of 150-200k fishing/xp hour for a total of ~2k xp a fishing spot. I just do C3 solos for my earlier floors after I reset. And I figure I'll get to 99 fishing by the time I get 120 dungeoneering this way.
  18. but hogging a world to yourself isn't bad either right? :P
  19. I personally hop more often than not for this reason. Crashing often takes up a lot more time than the minute it takes to hop. It's a judgment call I think. Crashing definitely isn't always the best option. But I don't think the act of crashing itself is inherently bad. on another note. I disagree with your statement about kuradal's dungeon being not crowded. I've been slaying a lot recently. and it is REALLY darned crowded in there. blue/iron dragons only respawn fast enough if i'm the only player in the room. dark beasts and steel have a capacity of about myself +1 other player so long as he is not also maxed with rapier. But I hop from kuradal's dungeon due to the endless influx of other players (who will crash me). It's better to just find a world that people don't think to use in the first place. Because even if I drive off the first player who was there, a second, a third, and a fourth will come soon after.
  20. The world is full of [wagon], why are you so upset by the high lever crasher subset of [wagon]? Ultimately a higher level crashing a lower level helps out more people than it hurts. They could be an [wagon] in a way that hurts more people than it helps if you prefer. I'm fine with most decisions that benefit the world as a whole. I don't see the point in going into any further detail than that. It stops being objective, and no meaningful conclusions can be drawn.
  21. if you're talking about the efficiency of the economy as a whole, the less productive gamer should hop as he does less with his time that helps other players
  22. I don't usually record data on preparation time, sorry :P it would be pretty quick if you put all if the required items next to each other in your bank though. you'd probably be better off with barbarian assault. you get A LOT less xp at lower firemaking levels just because the multiple beacon lighting bonus scales pretty harshly. Tedbunty's been using zamorak brews to hurt himself, then have the healer heal him to get a lot of points on early floors. Apparently you get so many points for healing, and the early floors are so short, doing floors 1-6 with this technique is faster horn charging. But it's a matter of finding a good team, and not accidentally making your allies think "why the heck did the noob reset after floor 6"
  23. I did some research on beacon network for firemaking experience. definitely less repetitive than normal firemaking. The thing is, you don't get the experience bonus for constantly maintaining it. If you want good experience, you'll need to wait for all the fires to die off before attempting again. And even using normal logs and not giving the other firemakers extra logs, a good runner should find himself a lot of time to spare. if you can light all the beacons it's 40k firemaking xp per run. it'll take ~10 minutes for all 10 beacons to die down if you use normal logs i believe. and the run itself should only take like 7 minutes, but that's ignoring preparation (which is nontrivial) xp isn't great, isn't bad, but it's kinda like farming in the sense that you'll have down time in between runs. just puttin that out there.
  24. there was a point in time where you could drop/alch logs/fish without interrupting your training. I'd bring that back :P
