it definitely is at maxed stats, nobody's really cared to give too much thought into lower stats. but i'd still go for the rapier since it's better in the long run. PS you should try maxing out b4 boss hunting =D

if you want to earn 100k fletching xp/hour while more or less breaking even like the other 99% of the players do, go ahead. Or if you want to earn 300k fletching xp/hour at a profit, just learn some patience. Common training methods are almost always ftl.

you should still be able to get enough for 99 fletching if you're patient enough to wait a month or 2.

messy or not, they are an accurate interpolation of situations that we would experience. They are accurate for low max hits. Sure, jard's calculations might be wrong, but we won't notice them unless we get newer and higher max hits and accuracies (in which case the chaotic rapier would win over the chaotic longsword due to the small strength + attack bonus delta between the longsword and rapier getting drowned out) secondly, selecting random numbers from a constant set of numbers, does not affect the expected DPS unless you are able to get a hold of, and view the "constant set of numbers" that Jagex draws their random numbers from. Unlikely considering Runescape runs on Java.

Hey, did you know that you can actually calculate the DPS ratio of two weapons on a target with an infinitely high defense level? (you know, all that limit as something approaches infinity stuff from Highschool calc) Well you can so long as runescape runs on a dice roll accuracy system. assumptions: 99 attack + strength extreme attack + strength potions Turmoil target has lvl 99 attack + strength no slayer task Neitiznot Barrows Gloves Dragon Boots Berserker Ring (i) Rune Defender Chaotic longsword/rapier no offensive bonuses from body/legs/cape note that bandos armor and firecapes and such, would skew the data further in favor of the chaotic rapier. If you crunch the numbers, you find that the DPS of the chaotic rapier on stab, on a target of infinitely large stab defense, will NEVER be less than 7.9% faster than the DPS of a chaotic longsword on stab, on a target of equally large stab defense. Likewise, lets assume we have a target with infinitely large defense. And his stab defense and his slash defense are equal. Using the same calculations, we find that a chaotic rapier on stab, will have no less than 0.7% stab DPS than a chaotic longsword's slash DPS on the same target. QED: the CLS is only better than the rapier IF a combination of the following are true: your attack + strength levels are not close to 99 you do not have extreme potions turmoil isn't give you the full +29% attack +32% strength you are not on slayer task you don't have barrows gloves, berserker rings, onyx(i), or any other items with offensive abilities that would sway you in favor of the rapier. The target has much higher stab defense than slash defense. math for thought <3

So if were to go by the theory that accuracy dice rolls are calculated the same way as max hit is calculated, we get the following DPS spread: Comparison of chaotic weapons the chaotic rapier demonstrates superior DPS to the CLS with stab on targets of 2000+ defense rating or higher. To give you some perspective: A monster without armor, would need lvl 500 combat and no offensive stats at all to achieve that level a primal forgotten warrior, in full armor, kiteshield, gloves, and boots, has a defense rating of about 1100. Needless to say, monsters with that kind of stab defense don't really exist right now. And if they did, the chaotic rapier would still be better at stabbing. The CLS starts demonstrating superior DPS on targets with slash defense ratings of about 400 and higher. which is fairly low value, considering a maxed player with extreme defense potions, and full torags, but no DFS comes out to about 780 defense rating. the thing is, unless the targets crush defense is much higher than its slash defense, the chaotic maul likewise overtakes the CLS in DPS rate at around 400 defense rating. This makes the CLS the best weapon ONLY for targets of 400+ slash defense, who have substantially more crush defense than slash defense.

if future bosses have even higher defence, it just means the chaotic maul will dominate. for the CLS to be worthwhile, jagex needs to release monsters with a defense level just high enough to be better than the CR, and just low enough to be inferior to the chaotic maul. and of course, the boss must not be weak to any attack form other than the ones used by the CLS. sounds awfully unlikely. You should read some of Sseli's research and calculations, he can actually factor in defense and accuracy.

my spreadsheets have never emphasized "realism" of a training method, so much as having every possible training method available :P someone else mentioned trawling tip it or another fan site for alchemy values? that would be a good idea actually. I should probably put the GE trade limits on there though.

assuming arcane stream, staff of light, and a standard magic potion: it's about 85k vs 52k xp/hour 85k being fire wave, 52 being fire bolt.

Lets say hypothetically, that as of batch 1, you can get 40k xp/hour with w117 teams and 80k xp/hour with pro clan. and lets assume that the change in the xp rate of dungeoneering per prestige slows down (at a rate proportional to 1/x) eventually to doubling every 21 floors (3 times slower than the XP curve) and we know the xp from floor 2 is about 2.7x the xp from floor 1. so if batch 2 comes out, and all above information is considered, the calculation comes out to: 200 hours for 1-120 with a pro clan 400 hours for 1-120 with a w117 team 80-160 hours for 1-99 depending on team quality. Consider this: fishing with rocktails would take about 300 hours to 99 mining @ living for gold would take about 240 hours to 99 RCing double nats would take about 450 hours to 99 Cooking with wines would take about 45 hours to 99 I hope that puts some perspective on things.

probably? do you do daily activities (check out laura's guide) because you should really be able to make 500k-1 mil a day in like 10-30 minutes, with minimal effort. I can't imagine it'd be too hard to rebound from 4 mil back to say, 13.5m

Something weird happened with the other topic I made apparently, so here goes a new one :P. I started tinkering with some google doc code, that would let me import an essentially infinite number of GE prices into my spreadsheets. I never bothered with this before because my spreadsheets didn't really need that many GE prices in them. But this code is useful for some things, namely the alchemy spreadsheet. And I've decided to stop being lazy and to finally make one. I *could* import the price of every item on GE into my spreadsheets, but then I would need to manually type the high alchemy values for every single item myself. And that would suck :D So, would you fellas help me narrow this list down to say: 1000-2000 items that are worth alching? Just drop the item names and high alchemy values in here (Don't forget to save!)

nah, the+5 or 10% boost won't be noticeable. you'd probably be best off just making an air staff at the beginning of each map. The time you save not having to make air runes probably outweighs the damage boost. anyways the shadow silk hood is just beastly.

Quit thinking of efficiency in terms of black and white. I mean, "in theory" euthanizing old people would be efficient. In the same way that communism is efficient, *in theory*. sure, it would be efficient for the economy as a whole to kill all the old people, assuming you could kill them with 0 effort. but the old people would, obviously, resist. and presumably, the time and resources required to accurately figure out who is too old to be efficient, and to actually kill them, would just be absurd. Ultimately having a community that is just full of kind, smart people is the best solution, in the same way that capitalism is the most efficient form of economy. One's stable and easy to maintain, the other isnt.
