Effigy nerf
Why does it matter to have a few slower skills? Don't like it don't train it. If you wanna have a max cape and that's the reason you train it, bad luck.

Effigy nerf
Replacing skills with effigies = bad Getting massive xp gains in a short time, but with lots of preparation time = who cares? Why does it matter? Runescape hiscores dont't even have a way to measure xp gain/time....

I think they were aware of it tbh, they just wanted to hype a little.

Am i only one?
That's the right word: disorientated. When i view Dungeoneering map everything is all set right. North being UP, and south being down etc Then i close Dung map and notice my compass is pointing east because of camera angle. And that makes me fall off. It would be very nice if you could make compass static. a better solution would be to automatically rotate the compass when you open the map.

Mod mark said he wanted to bring effigies into the lore of ROTM, but eventually it didn't prove feasible. The new message is just there to have an in-game message explaining it. I very much doubt it has any meaning beyond that, there really is nothing to suggest that it does.

Ethics and Morality
What about video-taped evidence or a confession? If there's any sort of lingering mystery at all, I surely wouldn't want someone to be punished, let alone killed. There were instances where the "murderer" confessed yet was not guilty Same here. TIFers just can't make it in the big house. What is a "just" murder? I think he means a single murder as opposed to someone who commited mass murder. I still don't agree, there is always a risk of it being wrong. Especially for "terrorists", there have been quite a few who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time basically. I disagree. Most of this is from a quote from myself from a different article so forgive me but it puts the point I made across. Okay, just to clear at few things at first: It's not proven conlusively yet whether capital punishment, rehabilitation or whatever works better. I am a firm believer in rehabilitation, but that doesn't mean I can't be wrong. I'm not sure if rehabilitation actually costs more money than a life prison sentence. I doubt it, but to be quite honest I'm not going to search statistics on it. Of course somebody in prison for life won't be able to commit a crime - yet only very few people would even receive a life sentence, and if you're going for rehabilitation you wouldn't let someone like that simply walk free after some time either. I don't doubt victims would choose prison, but for me the ultimate goal of laws and justice is to lower the crime rate, not to dish out vengeance. Often enough victims don't get their joy back from the offender being punished either. And I disagree with saying the UK will always be a retributive society. A lot of things can happen in the future. edit: Maybe I should also add that I personally believe that humans are completely determined, which is one of the reasons why I disagree with vengeance - I can honestly say I do not know how I would stand on this without that belief.

What would you prefer, a country where criminals are not punished very hard in most people's views and has a low crimerate, or one with a higher crimerate, but criminals get punished for what they do? The vengeance approach to justice doesn't work. Death penalty doesn't make most murders less likely. Next to nobody thinks of the punishment before committing such a crime. The only time where this would be the case is if you have an organized criminal operation going to make money. But even there, I doubt it's going to help much. On the other hand, resocializing criminals does a lot in reducing. Norway, which takes a very "mild", as some might call it, approach has one of the lowest crime rates in the whole world. As for death penalty, it's an absolute no-go. No trial can be guaranteed to be 100% correct and there have been a LOT of court errors in the past already. I don't want to know how many innocent people died by execution. Death is final and such a sentence should only ever be able to be passed if there is a 100% certainty - which there isn't.

15-February-2012: The Rio Carnival Bring On The Dancers!
Meh not too hopeful on this. First of all, it'll get spammed by effigy questions. Second, knowing how Q&As went in the past they would answer several question repeatedly, often thrice or more even while ignoring other questions or dancing around the issue. I doubt it's going to reveal much new stuff.

Ethics and Morality
He does have a point as far fundamentalists are concerned (e.g. teaching creation at school as an alternative to evolution), but once again we shouldn't be talking about fundamentalists here really(Even if they're far too prominent in America which I assume you're from skeptic?)

I have to say that at first I was quite happy at the effigy update, but by now... The droprate reducing is VERY GOOD and was long needed. Nothing against other training methods and faster training methods(Hell, I personally use Penguins/Tears/Troll etc...). What I don't agree with is having a training method that's actually comparable to training the skill which has *nothing* to do with the skill itself. Runecrafting has become "effigyskill" and that's what i can't stand at all about effigies. However, preventing you from having more than 5....I don't really see the point. It punishes those players who wanted to get those levels themselves by hard work. It also puts a lot more strain on the assist system. I hope they will change this tbh, even if I am not personally affected.

Ethics and Morality
Going to school is extremely important and if you don't do it, it's very likely that your entire life will be quite awful. On top of that, going to school is a legal requirement(at least here), so there's no real comparison here. If you chose a more fitting example, like, say, a sports club, then yes I would object to that as well if they're not able to leave until the age of 18. Of course, when you're child is still young you'll have to put him through some things he may not like and wouldn't do on his own, but once he reaches a certain level of maturity he should have free choice in matters that do not directly affect his future chances of a good life.

Ethics and Morality
I personally feel that a lot of the discussion in this thread is just talking at cross purposes, one poster talking about a different thing than the one replying to him. If I may make a few suggestions: First of all, I don't feel like there's going to be much merit in discussing fundamentalist's views. It should be clear to rational thinking people that they are misguided when concerning their religion or anything that comes in contact with it.(Of course, they're free to be misguided, this is just an objective statement). I think( and hope) that we can all agree that parents teaching their son that they're going to hell if they steal from the cookie jar or stuff along these lines do not make prime examples for good parenting. Then you have to be careful with your wording. Much of the last pages were just "religious indoctrination" and "religious teaching" thrown around, with varying meanings with every other post. Now for my personal opinion: Parents teaching their kids religion is fine as long as they don't pass it off as an undeniable scientific fact. What I don't like is entering your child into a church where you can't leave without your parent's consent until the age of 18. The child should have the possibility to decide that. As for the supernatural aspect of religion: The basics of each religion consist of two things: Moral guidelines and the hope of an afterlife. I wouldn't know of any serious religion without those elements. Morals can obviously be taught without religion as well, although conveying them with religion probably often is easier. ("You shouldn't do this because it's a sin and you will be punished for that" often works better than "you shouldn't do this because it's bad"). Of course, this is a very general statement, as are the examples I've given. Now for the supernatural: It mostly consists of the hope for an afterlife, and maybe god's guidance on the world. Specific miracles such as the bread and fish thingy are irrelavant in a way - it doesn't matter if you believe it really happened or not, the essence of it is the message conveyed, which works with or without actually believing it. The belief that God is watching over us and there is some kind of afterlife is reassuring for many people, it gives them the strength to go on in their life. I don't believe in it personally, but I can well understand the wish for some supernatural being.

Possibility of a members free trial in the coming months
The long-term F2Pers wouldn't become members, no. But short-term ones might do. Also, this is a tutorial, there's no point in it for long term players. We're not talking about giving F2P more content to give them more content but to make them subscribe.

Fix FPS & lag instead of bringing new game content?
Gosh, I'm tired of people telling others to lower or their settings or "get a better computer" only because they're lucky and not affected by this issue. Every computer that's not older than 5 years has the specs to run Runescape smoothly basically. The problem are NOT the specs. It's very likely certain incompatibility issues which is why some people are affected and others not. Besides, apart from Screen size turning down your graphics does next to nothing in terms of improving your FPS and even if you put up with the annoyance of the tiny fixed screen, it's just a few fps you can squeeze out of that. Most people still haven't got a smooth game after that. Before the last few updates, I was running a stable 30 fps, more in empty areas. Nowadays, with almost minimal settings I don't get over 20 in empty areas, very often around 10-15 and 3-4 in busy areas such as the grand exchange or the new burthorpe. Clearly my computer's fault right?

Botting in Runescape
Nope, not most of them. They're bots.

Ethics and Morality
So then what should you teach your children at a young age? Because parents teach their children everything - manners, political beliefs - all of those are indoctrination. Would you say that, in the interests of being objective, children should be educated about the merits of communism, or slave labour, for instance? It's the role of a parent to teach their children what to believe, what to think - and to put them in a position to help them make decisions for themselves. Well, imo it's okay to teach a child your religious values simply because there is no possible way to keep someone from it and an attempt to do that would probably only result in something very skewed. On the other hand I do NOT agree with children being made members of the parent's religion without the consent of the child (Baptising them as an infant). It's the child's right to make that decision him/herself.

Feds Shut Down Megaupload.com
Probably because MU was apparently not operating within the laws as it claimed. One of the early pages on this thread had a thing about how they didn't actually delete copyrighted content as they should have/claimed to have. Yeah, the rest of the internet pirates, but it doesn't claim to do otherwise (And, in fact, revels in it  ). Plus, sites like Youtube do get hit by that kind of thing regularly; If you use it to listen to music, you're bound to have noticed that a lot of videos get taken down due to copyright claims. Similarly, Youtube/Google and Facebook aren't file hosting/sharing/whatevering sites. Megaupload was. I've spoken someone who has a job for one of those companies that basically sue people on the behalf of the copyright holders and said that MU was one of the better file hosting sites in that they tended to respond to requests in a timely manner and actually do take things down. It was explained earlier in this thread that MU did not take down content, they merely disabled one link to the content. Now, if multiple users wanted to upload the same content to MU, the site would only save it once and simply give out different links that point to the same content. When asked to take the content down due to copyright, they only removed the single link they were asked about - if other people had another link, they could still access the content. As for why MU was attacked and not other sites - most likely because a lot of these other sites have servers in other countries where hosting stuff like this is not illegal or something like that. If there is the legal oppurtunity to go after these sites, the entertainment industry WILL.

Items in a BOB when it dies
It's supposed to drop on the ground, however there's some bug that often keeps the items in the familiars inventory. I do not know the determining factor of this bug though.

Black history month
I don't see how ethnicity is one of the two most vital aspects to a person's identity. What would it matter to me if I lived in the exact same situtation except for being black(As long as you live in a country where racism doesn't happen often at least)? I don't see why it matters. To me, ethnicity is 100% irrelevant. Doesn't mean I might not have some subconscious stereotypes, but on a rational level, it doesn't matter at all.

7-Feb-2012 - Potion Flasks
Same, that part of the update bothered me. Ditto... Was the easiest way to be booted off of the island back to Rellekka, and the only "free" Rellekka tele out there... Lyre+boots is free as well, once per day ;)

On Going Bad Runescape Performance
As far as I'm aware Runescape's bottleneck is most often memory, not processing power. Anyways, I cannot give you a lot of advice besides saying that a lot of people(including me) have experienced lag issues recently, especially after the Troll Warzone update. a Jmod said on the rsof on saturday that they managed a partial breakthrough on this issue which hopefully will mean that FPS will improve in the coming weeks. The only thing I can really suggest is that Min settings aren't really always ideal. Play around with the three modes(OpenGL,DirectX,Software) and with Screen sizes to see which yields the best result for you.

Magic Training Questions
If you're looking for a cost effective way to train magic, combat isn't going to be it, so gear should be relatively irrelevant(Apart from hati paws, get these if you don't have them already). As for which methods to use, there are several options. What I would recommend is mining+superheating until 55(You're also training mining and smithing, which is quite nice). Once you hit 55, use high-alchemy with items that have a low loss or may even yield a profit. Elemental battlestaves are always quite good for that. If you're looking for more items you can use this: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=high_alch_calc.htm . It will calculate your loss/win based on current ge prices. Be careful though that if the price is above 10k, then it's only exact to the nearest 100. After you've leveled a bit more, Lunar Magicks offer great options to train. If you're looking to unlock all spells, you'll have to do livid farm, which will cost a few mills in runes if all spells are unlocked. If that doesn't matter for you, I can recommend plank make(lvl 80) which quite often yields a profit when done with mahogany logs.

Defining lag
Jagex Devs are smart enough to distinguish between internet connection lag and performance issues. It may take them 5 minutes longer maybe.
