11-Dec-2013 - The Bird and the Beast (World Event 2)
You get given a bronze faction token when you begin. At certain amounts of renown collected it upgrades to silver, gold, rune and dragon. Each reward has a picture of a token on it. You need that token (or higher) to buy the reward. Eg a lot of the currently open rewards require a silver token (unlocked via 31k renown) and some need gold (unlocked at 90k renown) Having been through Armadyl's dialogue now I feel they have either made a mistake or setup a major twisty nonsense plot point in the lore on elder artefacts/ascension again. Armadyl says he used 2 artefacts to ascended, 1 being the staff, and that after ascending he led his people to Gielinor to find a new home. But TWW Guthix etc. clearly states the Staff was on Gielinor when Guthix arrived before all the other gods. This means we've got 1 of 3 scenarios: 1) They messed up their lore in having Armadyl claim he used the staff to ascend. 2) They are making the language more confusing by having beings not only ascend to godhood but also ascend within godhood (opposed to simply becoming more powerful) - ergo Armadyl was a low god then ascended further whilst on Gielinor with the staff. 3) In a typical Jagex twistathon they have revealed the horn (of the horn, stone and staff guthix said were here) to be Quin's horn only to complicate matters by making is so the staff was not the staff we all assumed it to be. But on a positive note the lore of this event kind of means we now have an awareness of 7-9 of the elder artefacts. 7th being the other artefact Arma used to ascend he doesn't like to talk about. 8th being the possible twist of a 2nd staff. 9th being how Bandos ascended since his account of events implies he directly left his world as a god it would suggest he has/had one OR that he found some other way to ascend through pure strength that we have not seen before. If we have hit 9 though it'll be interesting to see how they fit all the other gods in to the equation. I mean Zaros was always a god and by looks presumably so was Seren and if not her relationship with Guthix would've helped her ascend. That leaves Tuska, Marimbo, Brassica Prime, Tumeken, Karamjan god(s) and Fremmnik god(s) with unsourced ascensions (plus any other new ones they throw in the mix) as it'd only leave 3 elder artefacts outside of Gielinor for ascension purposes.

that jad task thou
Kiln is kinda easier than caves, primarily its just about standing in the right place and turning the right prayer on at the right moment. Only remotely hard bit is the invulnerable crystal run under a jad for safespot setup bit. But overall the jads are much easier, the boss is a walk in the park and if you have full obsidian with 3 weps and 3 helms for hybrid swapping you can kill it all very easily. And this is from the perspective of a guy who tried fight caves about 30-40 times over the years and never beat it (mostly due to a lag spike issue to do with the healers but w/e) without the 1 hit k.o. darts who then managed to beat kiln in a single attempt including a couple of major mess ups (nearly died to dils and once to a jad) and was actually bored in the final wave as it was basically walking around clicking the right thing without much worry for anything else.

I think Jagex ramped those prices up to make it roughly take the entire event capping everyday to get everything, so I'd assume the fact things are already at that level is their 'lesson learnt' change going in to this event.

Convoys are the best way to get metal - killing and filling ideally. Seems you get a drop from them around 1 in 4 or so and can do so even after you have capped. Having the parts also seems to help as the drop seems to be a part OR frags so lacking parts can slow you down at first. Also anyone seeking all 8 overrides ~200 frags a day is the magic number to clear it in 6 weeks (obviously you have 2 days to make up for at this point) 8k in 6 weeks works out to 1333.33333333.... frags a week, 200 a day gives ya 1400 a week.

The thing about getting all rewards: As it stands it certainly may be tight, but I don't think itll end up being too bad. First factor in over-run; with how other jagex events run I'd full expect an extra day or 2 of the event if not a whole week of overun. Then factor in the alchemist, even if he is relatively rare you only need ~30k restore over the duration of the event to bring grand total within doable range easily. Finally consider that Jagex will no doubt thrown price changes in at some point. At the very least as final week discounts if not a rebalance after the waves of all rewards too hard complaints hit - if they made bol more expensive they can make this cheaper imo. I sincerely hope they change frags soon that ALL activities that give xp have a chance of giving them. With how rare convoys are and how few npcs they house, couple with how time consuming/luck of draw other methods are it seems ridiculous to expect people to hunt out 8k of these things. I mean frags were like 10* easier to get at the start of bol and we needed 2k less of them then! I also hope caravans get much more common. Imo there ought to be atleast 1 caravan per side out at all times, spawning 1 a minute seems pretty reasonble rather than this 1 every 5mins crud atm.

I was always under the impression states side it was supposed to be gray at all times, but due to imports and international stuff they see grey sometimes and get confused and end up using both even though grey isn't really their word. I suppose it could be a regional thing though for you guys, all I know is for Brit side its always grey other than some surnames being Gray whilst in states lingo grey = gray. Kinda like a reversal of the stereotype where you always see Americans getting all higher-than-thou grammar nazi when they see tyres or colour etc. on forums yet you never see Brits/every other english speaker having any trouble knowing the tyres/tires and colour/color stuff.

No real difference, they both denote the same colour and I use them interchangeably for the most part without even thinking. Yeah its just an American vs English thing.

Copy website content in to excel (Search result)
The bascis for doing tht would be: =ImportHTML("http://portal.maccem.com.au:8080/cgi-bin/portalnew.sh/portal/namesenq.p?surname=NAME&firstname=&othernames=&knownas=&yearfrom=&yearto=&postfunc=Search&companyid=3&scrollx=0&scrolly=0","table",2)Just changing 'NAME' to the desired search string in each instance. For slightly easier editting you could do =ImportHTML(CONCAT(CONCAT("http://portal.maccem.com.au:8080/cgi-bin/portalnew.sh/portal/namesenq.p?surname=", A1), "&firstname=&othernames=&knownas=&yearfrom=&yearto=&postfunc=Search&companyid=3&scrollx=0&scrolly=0"),"table",2)Where cell A1 contains the search term, meaning you could setup a series referencing different cells for quick changes. The only issue you will run in too is that functions like these are limited to ~20 per workbook; so it'd be quite hard to extract all the data to excel in this way and it runs the risk of everytime you open the work book 1 or more of them goes to error due to the requested url rejecting requests made so close together. What you really need to do is find where it is pulling that data from and see if you cannot tap in to that directly to extract all the data, probably in one long string and then deal with processing that string back into a coherent table. Unfortunately I can't spot where it is pulling the data from in the source code as I'm not familiar enough with the ajax etc stuff they are using.

I'm curious where this changed worldview is, seeing as one of his most recent acts was to try and commit a genocide on the cave goblins and then, having just got back to Gielinor he's all fired up to fight gods causing more potential genocide and almost immediately is going to attack Armadyl.

I don't think Armadyl being an archetype or cliche in anyway makes him on-dimensional. The fact he fits perfectly in to an archetype or cliche that already has lots of nuances to it, gives him a depth automatically from our preconceptions in-spite of the lack of lore and info surrounding him thus far in game. Meanwhile Bandos fits an archetype or cliche that is defined by its one-dimensionality - the guy who wants nothing but war and conflict for no other reason or purpose, just because. And even with a good chunk of lore in-game from the god books and Cave goblin series and a multitude of races with small lore fragments around their lifestyles and cultures he hasn't moved beyond it. I'd agree there is a place for that sort of character in fantasy, but Bandos is the most boring one we have who fits that bill. Zamorak, Lucien, Zemergoul, Moia, Tuska, Skargaroth, Amascut, Sliske, the Raptor and a few others can all easily fall in to the archetype of conflict for conflicts sake and have more nuances or intriguing missing details to them than Bandos has been shown to have. Heck even, for many, the player is that character. Also, as a writer, I'd say in a good fantasy setup the vast majority of characters ought to be grey characters with the one or two big white or black characters acting as the driving forces that make these grey characters face crisis on a personal and global level. Because black and white characters are one dimensional and quite simple, the grey characters are the ones who have dilemmas and internal conflicts and have to grow and change to survive. They shouldn't be rare in the slightest. @Hedgehog - You say that like these are mutually exclusive facts. Just because he is smart in how he wages war does not alter the fact war is all he desires.

Totally agree. Bandos plays outs as very 2D - he just looks for ways to smash stuff t every turn and purposefully creates conflict. Tuska, even though we have little on her, seems to have more depth in that she is a mindless beast who some how gained godhood yet still manages to hold her own and has this scavenger race that uses her for it. I mean Skargaroth chased her from world to world trying to kill her and failed a lot. She did a number on Guthix homeworld even with Saradomin about. Plus now shes blind in at least one eye if not both from being stabbed. I think she is likely to have to die quite soon after she emerges as i expect she has swallowed an elder artefact though.

Y'know I'm really loving how since October we are getting these more in-depth detail giving BTS videos just like they promised, with more of the info we want and less pointless waffle. They are getting so in-depth it almost feels as if most of them tell us less about the content than the written BTS article did...

Combat boosts
I believe 6 stems from misconception of a fix they did a while back. Previously (aside from glitch behaviour) magic damage was uncapped and scaled with the spells and the levels where as melee and ranged damage whilst scaling with levels was limited by the gear used. This meant you could use quite low level magic gear without any major detriment. The fix implemented makes magic work the same - whilst damage does scale up it is limited by the weapon level ensuring you are better off using better gear. So yes if you use t80 or t70 and not t90 you would see lower damage from spells that reach max damage later than lvl 70 or lvl 80 than you would using t90, as they'd be limited by your weapon but it definitely should not be making them worse than the lower spells.

In order to properly keep their new system balanced they really need to make new gear come in a more pop or barrows (original) style. As in the item for any given slot has identical source for all 3 classes. 1 Boss should drop mainhands, 1 offhands, 1 shields, 1 helms etc. Doesn't even necessarily have to be that confined, but the bosses/things supplying them should at least be purposefully designed to be equals; given drops intended to be equals (eg drygore, seismic and ascension) to purposefully designed unequal sources was bound to cause problems. Especially when you throw in to the mix ranged (despite sort of being the easiest in raw combat terms) has a very literal monetary or time blockade against even chasing the drop and has a fundamental inequality built in when it requires 7 different components to be built that come from 7 different monsters (8+ if you count killing for the keys in first place) whilst the melee and magic can just be walked straight in to and gotten as a straight up drop. Sure that way a specific item subset would still be overpriced when given to Vorago but at least it'd be a bit more balanced as all 3 classes would suffer the same issue.

Next gen gaming. Its too real. (NBA 2k14)
I only think personalised targetted advertising is ok when you opt in to it and even then I'd rather it be more passive forms (eg when going to a stores website your purchases from loyalty card are used to suggest offers etc.); any more intrusive I just find annoying especially as their 'clever algorithms' clearly suck SO BAD. For example on facebook a lot of the ads and such it targets at me are to do with sports, expensive holidays and finding the right woman for you. This for an unemployed, gay, sports disliking person. I mean I don't even talk about sports and holidays in statuses or anything and have no likes, groups or pages that indicate an interest. But apparently all the liking of anime, gaming and books equates to sports and holidays in their smart algorithms.

New attack(s) for Vorago again? That'll help fix the issue of Seismics being ridiculously overly priced due to rarity! I mean what could possibly go wrong with making the boss harder when the drops are already too rare partially because of its difficulty! -.-

Saving RS: Prestige System
Very misleading, considering the prestige system has been canceled. Also quite bad to be needlessly necroing a post that is nearly a year dead just to post an already out-of-date link.

Interestingly serving ads based on such visual data is proving a bit of a legal minefield in some places so may not come to pass. Tesco supermarkets here in the UK wanted to use such targetted ad boards starting in their petrol stations and stuff but the scheme is getting held up due to concerns over the software making the judgement and issues it could raise - eg assuming someone is gay based on visual data and putting ads up that make them unsafe if others spot it, or issues of gender identity for both trans people/crossdressers and for normal people who are a bit masc/fem looking for the gender etc. Of course it depends on the extent of what they want to judge on and the perceived dangers of doing so in a private setting vs a public one.

Using the wardrobe
Yeah that booth that drops over people just means they are in the f2 menu where you can change over-rides and such or in one of the other default look changing locations (eg the clothes shop in varrock or barber in falador). Just the games way of hiding sudden model changes to make things a bit more seamless.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Well one of them is my best friend of about 7 1/2 years now who is like a sister to me where we got close late in high school, but were sort of within the same friend group for ~4 years prior to that. The others are friends picked up throughout college and university that I've known for 6-4 years and have equally close relationships with many of them; some of them I literally talk to for hours a day nearly everyday; others have shared in some of the deepest parts of me rarely shared through being writers together and discussion such things. It's never been an issue with any of them what our friendship is or either party having extra feelings in any of these friendships.
