03-Apr-2013 - RuneScape Beta Programme: Registration Open
It'll be interesting to see how they use HTML5. 1 thing I'm keen about is how easy it is to dismantle HTML5 objects and view the code and such that makes things run, including variables. I'm sure most of it will be server sided so we won't likely get to see juicy stuff like drop rates, but I'm sure there will be a plethora of information to nab on day 1 from oversights. Personally I hope it crashes and burns so old school becomes the main focus, but I'm selfish like that. :P

Assigned wallbeasts with 1 defense...
I disagree. The lower defense players can't kill the enemies so shouldn't be assigned them. They aren't gaining anything from this. Do you think players should be assigned cave horrors who have not completed the quest to access them? It's the same thing, isn't it?

Prayer flick/Prayer bonus question
Sorry i worded it poorly. I mean i am flicking the prayer so it lasts a full 4 ticks. Ignore that though I haven't been paying close enough attention to say anything absolute and it might be draining from only 3 ticks... I do often leave prayer on for 2 ticks and notice no drain for hours though. Are you sure 1 is the maximum allowed before it starts counting? From your explanation of the decimal points i get the feel that prayer bonus would slow the depreciation of prayer drain when you accidentally flick a little too long, so is worth having. Good to know.

Prayer flick/Prayer bonus question
Hey... While prayer potions are so relatively expensive I've been doing a lot of praying flicking. I'm curious exactly how it works and if prayer is counted to decimal points or not. Protect from melee drains 1 point every 5 ticks with 0 pray bonus. But if i flick it every 4 ticks perfectly I notice it does slowly fall, and this is with perfect flicking 4 ticks or less every time. (This is with high prayer bonus too which should make it like 8 ticks) What's happening? Does Prayer Bonus have any purpose at all? For the record I notice no drain at all when I flick every 1-3 ticks as usual, just curious about the 4 ticks oddity.

Dharok's or Bandos?
Crashing, anti-crashing and meeting new high tier PVM people you can form relationships with were the best parts about GWD =/ People say EOC is being made "too easy" a lot but I think this kind of crap really does show they're removing all sense of competition out of the game in place of boring old grinding. BCP has +26 damage and +13 offhand damage, and +1 prayer over a barrows platebody. Do what you want with that information.

Not impressed by PS4
Half the games on steam. But it goes deeper than that, PC games get mods, lots of them. Just Cause 2 with the infinite strength ropes is a completely different and more enjoyable game. Hell, Just Cause 2 has a multiplayer mod for PC. That's right, they took an entirely 1 player game and made it so you can play with 100's of people. It's awesome. Games like the Civ series get mods that are the equivalent to DLC packs on console games, but a million times more content and all free. They also get patches to fix small problems the developer won't or can't, but the community is well aware of. I love the console controllers, I use a wireless 360 controller on a lot of PC games, but there are 100's of different types of games that play so much betterer with a mouse and keyboard. Look at Terraria and Minecraft both of which have been ported to consoles fairly recently, they're playable on consoles, but sooo much better on PC. Imagine playing runescape with an xbox controller. And that's why PCs are best. Because they can do anything a console do, better. And also a billion other things. Price is a bad argument, you can build a relatively mediocre computer for $500 that can play modern games on standard settings. Or you can invest more into a gaming computer than can play everything in the next 5-8 years on fully max settings. Or you could buy the $500 one with a good mobo and PSU, and just upgrade the CPU and GPU later to make it a super computer. You have options. (Oh and that $500 computer does everything your standard $150-200 computer does but much better, so it works out cheaper to have 1 decent computer; than a bad computer and a console.)

Old School RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds!
Hahahaha that was fantastic. I'd like to try it on suomi or someone like that just to see their reaction to the XP waste, lol.

Assigned wallbeasts with 1 defense...
You need 5 defense to wear spiny helm, and you need spiny helm to fight them. This is fixed in the newer game so you can only be assigned them if you have 5 defense or higher. I had to go to tureal.. I guess this is a Fix request/Rant... About 07. Didn't know where it belonged.

NANANANANA BATMAN! (Music)
Just browsing random junk on youtube and this guy blew me away.

Depends entirely on defense and magic level. I believe at 99 ahrims you'd still need some food but would last well over an hour. Ancients are truly expensive though so it would seriously harm your profits to the point it might be wiser to just make multiple trips. This is the last I'm going to comment in this long chain of increasingly less relevant topics :P

Chinning questions
No no no no no! Gah! Why does everyone always say don't chin till 85 or so range? Do it early. As soon as possible. The early levels will go by very quickly, it's much better than extremely slowly getting to 85 using alternative methods and then busting out chins. This is of course assuming you're not cannoning 99 slayer or something where it would make most sense to chin later rather than sooner.

I've done cape before as a pure with mage, way back when, you do splash a lot but it's nothing drastic, just lure away 90's on the last waves so you can take care of things without taking damage. But I did forget that I won't be able to autocast... Crap.

Ohoho. I intend on getting 80+ mage before attempting the caves... I might even do it with god spells and sweets as that probably would be cheaper and faster. I really dislike range as a skill. I'll cannon some slayer tasks and may get 61+ range from this eventually which would make farming multiple capes easier. But I refuse to actively train it just to get the first training only firecape when mage can do the job.

Not impressed by PS4
Consoles are a dying breed, they existed purely because the standard home computer couldn't or wouldn't run the high end games at the time. All a console is, is a computer dedicated entirely to playing games, getting the most out of it's relatively low power. The fact consoles are focusing on other aspects and becoming watered down computers kinda shows the desperation and inevitable failure. FYI I don't think usability is a valid argument now days. Most people own a computer regardless if they're gamers or not, setting up a gaming rig is not complex at all and mostly common sense to people with any experience with a PC. The main advantage consoles have are exclusives but PS4 has failed to impress... I do intend on getting WiiU for super smash bros and a good 3d mario game if they ever come out, but I can never see myself getting a PS4 or xbox 3, they just have nothing to offer me.

Yeah I figure blood spells will give me a good chance without needing 1000's of purple sweets. I'll just have to lure things behind walls, so I won't spend too much time unprotected from rangers unless I get bad spawns. I think I'll use melee when there's no danger. to save runes and speed up kills slightly.

Chinning questions
Protect prayers use 1 prayer point every 3 seconds. Eagle eye is the same. (So both would be 1 point every 1.5 seconds) You didn't state your prayer level so I'm going to assume 44 for my convenience. Prayer pots give you 14 points per dose at 44 prayer (56/28 seconds) Red chins take 1.8 seconds to throw (1000 in 30 mins) That works out as a little over 32/64 doses per 1k chins. This is not accounting for initial prayer, setting up, time spent not attacking... FYI ape atoll is way better than bandits. Don't do bandits.

Wait what? Will GWD be solo only then?

Rares in 2007scape- A necessity?
Hmm. Come to think, nothing worth killing in 07 has high melee defense, and you're no longer completely immortal to everything; without SS/Uni. DKs for example, the one you melee has such poor defense +2 strength could be a worthy trade for +~20 melee accuracy, and the defense would actually help a lot here as you do take damage. Some slayer tasks are another case of +2 strength potentially being worth +~20 accuracy. Not saying it is the best, but relative to 2012, it's a lot closer.

Now I just need to get my hands on money to pay for firecape and zerk ring and my training equipment will be fully maxed out. (Damn firecape is expensive as a pure with mage)

Why PC Gaming Sucks
Just noting that all of the exclusives you mentioned can be emulated flawlessly on a decent computer. I've been playing SSBM recently (with a wireless xbox 360 controller which also works flawlessly with any PC game using a program named Pinnacle) It's perfectly legal to emulate if you own the game, FYI. I spent over £1400 on my computer because it's a large part of my life, I use it for work, entertainment, socializing, my hobby(software development), research, shopping... It's a very small investment that makes my daily activities so much more pleasurable and gives me so much potential to do more than I ever could previously. I felt like gravedigging because it's an interesting topic :D

2 Questions
Mud battlestaffs are dropped by DKs so yes. The only one that isn't in the game is steam which is from GWD (K'ril) but nobody uses that one anyway.

What updates would you like to see in EoC?
I would like if the best untradeable sword in the game required 99 smithing or something, but was obtained from a boss drop. (The boss requires high mining to fight) This way training smithing and mining has a purpose but you also need to be good at combat. Similar things with range and magic. And it doesn't just have to be that simple, could have a flame sword that requires high firemaking to wield effectively. Or wield a special swordfish you have a rare chance of fishing as a weapon, with high fishing to weild. Or have a hunting/slaying requirement on things like chinchompas and lizards. Give certain weapons unique abilities like ultimates or whatever they're called. Make enemies including bosses specifically weak to certain weapons, further than just the 3 melee styles. (Like demons and darklight) Combat will still be dull, but that's just how the game is. It'll give people something to do at least.

Buying all green d'hide
Interesting. Is there some system in place to track the average price, or is it just some dude deciding what the prices should be from an educated guess?

[07RS] Money Making Guide - 400k-600k/hr
"Buy ores from NPC shop at a low cost, resell to players for profit. Access to the NPC shop requires that you have completed a fairly advanced quest." I like video guides but don't understand why they always have slow uneventful introductions and the method isn't written in plain text in the post. XP waste! Edit: Cool guide though. One of those little quirks that even pro players don't immediately see as a money making option as it's so obscure and out of the way. :)

The End-Game Item Economy
I expect items like DFS and rangers to actually rise soon, they're only low because lucky people got them and needed to get rid of them for some good start up cash, so they wasted thier advantage of having the extremely rare items for quick cash. Whips have a lot of advantages over 2012 whips, firstly they're the best weapon in the game so always in demand, 2nd the abby demons don't drop profitable ashes, meaning whips will have to remain higher to make abby demons worth doing (and thusly if they fall in price, fewer people would do abby demons, and the price would rise again) The problem whips will face is that most players are veterans and know what they're doing this time. Many of us will be pures that don't use whips, many more of us will actually get 85+ slay, relative to how many did compared to the entire player base in the past. Whips should fall to 1-2m within a few months and then stay pretty stable at that price.
