Food Poisioning from vegies is increasing.
I read the article man, that's why I concluded what Shippou said was dumb and unfounded. As you said, the article in no way says veggies are bad for you, but contaminated veggies are. Whereas, the topic leads me to believe that vegetables will make me sick. The author simply makes a topic, makes a claim and supports it with something completely different to what they've claimed. To me, that's stupid. A little more than "here's something interesting *link*" wouldn't have gone a miss. I appreciate Shipp's first language may not be English, but if he could read the article, he could have at least justified what he was posting. I admit the thread topic "veggies are more likely to make you sick" was misleading. I can see why you might get PO'd for thinking you were going to find a generic health article and instead finding an article about food poisoning. But anyway, Shippou edited it, so that's fixed. And Shippou said right at the beginning: The claim that Shippou made was that "produce causes more cases of food related illness now than poltery," which is exactly what the article is about. It was easily misunderstood, but the basic point of the post was about contaminated foods, not veggies in general. Given that, I think the general reaction to this post was extremely harsh. Hmmmm, I seem to be disagreeing with everybody lately.... Time to find a 'feel-good' post and spread the love 8)

MTV.com: When The Other Woman's An Xbox: Gaming Gripes Go On
How is it the girl's fault? The guy can't give up the virtual world for a real relationship, therefore it's the guy's fault. Obviously, the solution is for the girl to just leave him, just like you said. But that's tough. Breaking up is hard to do, especially if it's caused by some trivial little thing like a video game. Guys should not let their gaming ruin their relationships. What shocks me is that virtual reality actually can take precedent over love. If I was sitting here playing a computer game, no matter how intense it is, if some hot chick walked in the door, I would simply stop the game, take the headset off, and take my hands off the keyboard/mouse. It wouldn't even be a contest. Hmm, a fighting game in virtual reality, or a beautiful girl in actual reality? Game over, man!

Jealousy
I'm not a jealous person. If someone has something that I really want or I think is rightfully mine (award, money, girlfriend, whatev), I always blame the loss on myself instead of on the other person. Of course, blaming myself for everything is not the best policy either :( , but it does keep me from jealousy.

Food Poisioning from vegies is increasing.
Jeesh, Bubsa, that's harsh. Did you even read the article? Did any of you even read the article? This is a study comparing what percent of food poisoning comes from what types of food. And, surprisingly, produce was more dangerous than chicken or eggs. How is that a stupid statement? No one was saying "OMG stop eaxting teh vejjeez th3y wiil pwn j00!" They're just comparing the risks of food poisoning between different food groups. Maybe the thread title needs a little editing, but cmon.... It's an interesting article. Why are you all jumping on Shippou?

Covers VS. Originals
That was a cover? I don't think anyone has mentioned Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit. It was originally by The Who. I don't much like the original, but LB's cover is cool. Where can I hear "Hotel California" as covered by Less Than Jake? With all the controversy, I'm kind of curious...

U2 or Green Day anyone?
I don't listen to U2 at all, but I do like Green Day. I listened to them a fair amount before American Idiot came out, and I think American Idiot is really a different kind of music from their older albums. I'm lucky, I like both styles. I can see why older Green Day fans might not like the new album, but do you really have to condemn those that do? As for the political thing, Ive always thought Green Day would be better if they didn't try and throw in so much liberal politics into their songs. I'm pretty liberal, so I don't exactly disagree with them, but I think it takes away from the music to be up on a soapbox all the time.

Crazy arab drivers
I love how people are just standing ten yards away from the skidding cars. Don't worry, the drivers won't lose control and plow through several hundred spectators! No no, it's all perfectly safe....

Some picture hunting
hmm, I have one of these hanging on my wall. I can usually do it no problem, but something about the computer screen doesn't work for me :?

Fortune Cookies
Ooooh, this is a tradition at my house. We remember all our stupid and/or funny fortunes. Hold on, I have a collection.... *runs off to find it* ...Hmm, I don't actually have that many good ones. But I have a few: "Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you." "As a cure for worry, work is better than whiskey." "You will be succesfull in everything." I think I like the last one the best 8) Also, a friend of mine once got: "You look pretty."

I wrote and recorded a few rap songs..so listen..and tell me
I am a big eminem fan, so I can see where you're coming from with these. I listened to them both, and I didn't really like the first one. The rhymes all sounded...predictable, sort of. I dunno. Standard. It also seemed repetitive, you were talking about the same thing over and over again. Second one I actually liked a lot. I had to listen to it twice to understand half of what you were saying, but once I did, I thought the way you put the language together was interesting. Again, some rhymes sounded cliche, predictable, or forced ("inconsiderate a--'). But overall, I thought you constructed your rhymes fairly well. On the subject of rhyming, I think you need to go for less emphasis on each rhymed word. You tend to hit the rhymed words really hard (by raising the tone and volume of your voice), but it makes it sound way over-exaggerated. Instead, rely on the beat and the quality of the rhymes themselves to make them effective. Everyone has been saying that you sound really really white. Which is true. But it's not necessarily a bad thing. Don't try and put on some fake ghetto accent, people will know its just an act. And keep pronouncing your words. A precise delivery means people will be able to follow your words better, which is always a plus. I hate mainstream rappers who grunt the whole time. Why are they writing verses in the first place if they're not going to spit them out clearly? That said, you do need to change your style of delivery. Definitely slow down the second one, and relax. You seem to be trying to make yourself sound incredulous and scared and sincere all at the same time. I would choose a different attitude. Don't try and sound pitiful. People might think you actually are pitiful. Play around. Sound exasperated. Sound angry, amused, happy, I dunno, but make sure you're not forcing it. And drop your voice into a normal speaking range. Your style should mimic a natural way of speaking for you, only chopped up to fit over a beat. You'll still sound white, but like I said, that's not a problem. I really did like the second one. It was original and interesting, even if it was rushed. Keep trying, and you can only get better :D EDIT: listened to your revision. Try a different beat so you can slow it down a lil. Everything else I said still holds true. Although it is worth pointing out that since you didn't hit the phrase "inconsiderate a--" as hard, it fit into the flow of the verse much better.

I just want to find out what you guys think . . .
Lol, sorry. I thought I'd got away with it. I didn't want to get into any big arguments, hence the edit. :) Wise move on your part  Anyway, I guess weez is right about reading the paper. But MyPurpleCrayon, I don't accept it as fact that America is not imperialist, and I think if you do a google search for the phrase "American imperialism," you'll find a bunch of people who believe America really is imperialist. Saying "It is a fact that America is not an imperialist nation," (and not an opinion) is like saying "It is a fact that the Patriot Act is unconstitutional." Maybe America is not an imperialist nation, and maybe the Patriot Act is unconstitutional, but both of these statements are debatable. You can't just say "oh this is fact" and dismiss all disagreement. Again, whether we are imperialist or not, shouldn't a teacher welcome critical thinking like this? Shouldn't teachers encourage students to step outside of the box to seriously consider a current-day issue as it relates to the historical subject matter? Who cares if Evilperson is right or wrong, he went beyond expectations to find a present-day connection, showing he is alert and thinking about the subject. The paper should not just receive a failing grade because the teacher can't handle an opinion contrary to her own. If it was a good paper, it did not deserve an F. Like weezcake said, we'd really have to read the paper to see.

I just want to find out what you guys think . . .
Haha Pete, I read the OED's definition and didn't like it, so I got out my other dictionary, just so that I could make my argument better. EDIT: Aww, Petey, you edited your post... This imperialism argument is all off-topic though. The real issue is whether Evilperson should have failed his paper. If you agree with me that it is possible to argue that America is imperial, Evilperson should not have failed his paper. He made a legitimate argument. If he argued it well, he should not have failed just because his teacher didn't agree with his politics.

I just want to find out what you guys think . . .
I'm sorry but we did not conquer another country. We kicked a leader out and let them reestablish a working democracy. We are not in control of the country - Bush is not their president - Iraq is not an American colony. Nothing about what we've done in Iraq fits the definition. (Note: I'm not defending the war by any means, but we are not creating an empire by doing what we've done.) I feel sorry for you that you do not understand what an empire is. How about you research past empires and see what defines them. Let's highlight a few for you: Rome Britain Mongolia The Turks What did these empires all have in common that made them empires? They took over countries and made them into colonies where their leaders where also the leaders of the colonies. America has not done that with Iraq. Woah woah...I wasn't trying to argue politics. I was just pointing out that it is reasonable to argue that America is imperialist. Whether you think it is or not, you can argue either way. "Empire" can just mean economic empire. I would say that by invading Iraq, we were attempting to regulate trade of a "raw material," (oil), by extending political power and economic power over another country. We were not establishing colonies or viceroys or anything, but we were taking control, for the same reasons as classic imperialists throughout history. And yes, I would say that we are in control in Iraq. We don't dictate who comes to power, but we did dictate what kind of government they would have. You can be sure, if they tried to set up a communist state, Uncle Sam would have something to say about it. Obviously, you disagree with me. That's fine. But you have to admit, I can use the definition of imperialism and write a legitimate argument that America is imperialist. And if Evilperson wrote a paper in which he did showed that he understands what imperialism is, and did a good job arguing his case, whether you agree with him or not, the paper does not deserve an F.

I just want to find out what you guys think . . .
To Ghostranger and weezcake: Whether you think America is an imperialist nation or not, I think it's pretty obvious that you can write a persuasive paper either way. I think America is imperialist (we conquered another country, we are establishing our form of government in its place, and we are seeking to control world trade of a raw material: oil), but I could still write a good paper proving that it isn't (we don't make colonies, we don't take independence away from other countries, etc). A good teacher should be able to accept that a student might disagree with the teacher's politics, and grade the paper on the quality of the scholarship and persuasive writing. If it was a good paper, even if the teacher disagreed with it's conclusions, it did not deserve an F. To Evilperson: I think the first example is outrageous. You should definitely challenge that. As for the second example, I think it's pretty obvious what she expected, and you should have defined each one. If it was an honest mistake, she should have let you try again. But if you were just looking for a loophole, I'd say you deserved what you got. Third example seems fishy, I guess I agree with you. But I don't know the specifics, so i can't say. Getting five true/false questions wrong? They're true/false...your answer is either right or wrong, and you got them wrong. Tough break. It's not like you can argue semantics on this one. She had the answer key made up before she graded your test, it's your bad luck that killed you. You can't say it's her bad teaching. Homework worth 50% of the grade? I would say this is reasonable, actually. It's a different style of teaching from normal, but once you get used to it, I bet you won't mind it. I would say she's certainly a bad teacher, especially if she's allowing her own politics to interfere with her teaching. But most of your examples seem like pretty standard teaching styles to me. You just have to get used to them. I get really good grades, too. So I don't think you're just a whiner for getting upset about a B. I know how it is. But I think you are blaming your teacher just a little too much. Try to work within the system, and challenge her politics every chance you get. Talk to some other adult about it, too. See what they recommend.

Hey there~
Hey man, I remember you. You were a pretty cool poster. :D Mostly I remember a different avatar tho... So are you going to be posting more, or is this just a chance to say hi before you disappear again?

Wats ur attitude to life????
On the "be yourself" line of thinking: I think it was Dilbert who pointed out that it's impossible to "act naturally." Logically, it's a contradiction. If you're acting, you're not being natural. Therefore, if you want to be natural (or be yourself), you have to stop acting at all. That's a weird idea, because the more you concentrate on not acting, the more conscious of your actions you become, and the less natural you will be. It's like trying to control your breathing: you breathe most regularly when you're not paying attention to your breaths. But once you think about each breath, they become choppy and uneven. So I think the answer is to not concentrate on being anybody. Stop striking a pose. Who you are will come out on its own, as long as you don't try and force it out. Relax. As for my attitude towards life, I liked Bubsas comment "to live, to learn, and to love." I would also add to that the idea of enlightened self-interest. Basically, this means be a selfish SOB, but be smart about it. If you want people to like you, what do you do? Be nice to them. If you want to be treated nicely, treat others as you want to be treated. If you want help raking your yard, do someone else a favor and they might help you in return. By being generous, you're really helping yourself. What goes around comes around. That's my life philosophy. By being nice to people, people will like me, and my life will be better for it. Enlightened self-interest.

Sad but true
I agree with Astralinre on this one. The only thing I find wrong with this post is that he includes the election of George Bush as a terrible hate crime. Although I don't think the country was right to elect GWBush, they were not hateful for doing so. I disagree with the war, but American support for the war was generated by a genuine desire to do right (and maybe fear), not hatred. Otherwise, he was just wondering why humans are hateful. Do we have to judge this post by a history of bad posts? Why are we so hateful?

More grotesquely muscled man - not quite finish 18/11
Layman's opinion: Awesome. As for criticism, my only problem is that the abs don't look realistic to me. They are too round or bulbous or something, when all the other muscles are jacked but ropey. They look kinda like eggs to me. Maybe square them out, or make them less geometrically perfect or something. Someone mentioned the neck being too long. I think the neck is perfectly proportioned to the head, but maybe both the head and neck are just a tiny bit too big? It makes him look like a small guy. Strong and muscled sure, but small. If his head/neck were a little bit smaller, his body would appear bigger, comparatively, and he'd look like a bigger man. Am I the only one who noticed he's missing nipples?  Good job man. I like it a lot. :D

Quality Fakes! None of that MS Paint rubbish...
^^it doesn't have to be tip.it vs runescapehq :? Anyway, I think my favorite was the dream, just because of how surreal it is. The only problem is that the green phat in the foreground looks out of place. If it is supposed to look like it was dropped on the table, it shouldn't look like it's in your inventory. I had a pretty sweet fake that won me my custom rank, but I think I deleted the pic :( I had made it all wide-angle and stuff, too.

Memory?
Nothing dramatic here. I just remember playing let's pretend. I was some sort of animal, and I wanted to be three years old (because that's how old I really was), so I said "I'm free." Fortunately, I grew out of that little speech impediment. Now I just have a flat New England, east coast accent.

People's hobbies?
JUGGLING!! Anybody else tried this? Learning to juggle 3 balls is really easy, I reccomend it to anyone...even if you don't have confidence in your coordination, believe me, it's easier than you think. I've worked at juggling, on and off, for maybe ten years now with a year off here and there, and I can now juggle five balls, and do all sorts of neat tricks with 2, 3, or 4. I can also juggle three pins, knives, or flaming torches (although I haven't actually gotten to try flaming torches yet :( ) Other hobbies: Acting (Mostly on-stage: Shakespeare, Musicals, Neil Simon plays...whatev) Music (I play trumpet and just started singing for a musical) Soccer I used to play basketball...I might pick it up again eventually I don't play runescape anymore. Thank dog. But I do play Day of Defeat occasionally (Counter-Strike mod), and, of course, I post here.

Wait...I don't golf. There's a dress code? If I tried golfing in jeans and a T-shirt they'd kick me off the course? ...why?

About a lill bird (from Holland) who got shot/\/\/\
Four words: "Much ado about nothing." I don't often say this, because I don't want to insult anybody who honestly finds this issue important, but seriously. It was just a little sparrow (I read the article and couldn't find it say anywhere that it was an endangered species...correct me if I'm wrong). True, no animal should just be killed on a whim; we should respect animal rights at least a little bit. Maybe this was a a little slip of ethics. ...So it was a little slip. Tell the exterminator not to do it again, fine him if that's what the law asks for, moralize about it in public, and move on. Is it worth all the kerfluffle?

End of our playoffs (and i'm to blame)
"Win as a team, lose as a team." Honestly, don't blame yourself. Most of us have played sports, so we all know that we can always find places where we should've done this or should've seen that coming, but sith happens. Your team played, and together, you fought hard and lost by a little. You did what you could, you tried your best, and that's all that ever really matters. Dunno if that will help you out or not...but I am sympathetic and I'm sorry to hear that you lost.
