Ahhh....legos....... Every afternoon. For years. I was an addict. We have two big boxes with all sorts of pieces from all sorts of different sets in them. When I created something original, I used pieces from every series from the amazons to ninjas to the undersea thingers. I have buccaneers and dark knights and ninjas and astronauts and......monkeys and alligators and horses and dragons and parrots......good times 8) I moved away from it naturally a while ago though. And now, I have to say, the sets I see in stores look pretty pathetic. Like Necromagus said, it's all commercial tie-ins and fancy molded parts that can't be used out of the context they were created for.
  2. http://www.sandisk.com/retail/dap.asp ^^Sandisk's mp3 players are all under $200. They come in 256mb, 512 mb, and 1gb. The user interface is terrible and you can't make playlists, but they're cheap and they play music, so consider them, too.
  3. Freeeaaaaky and no, that's not even a lil funny. I watched like 45 seconds and turned it off once the techno dance thingy started. I'm going to have nightmares.
  4. Are you kidding? That's some people's fondest pipe dream  Imagine a hippie in 1970. He'd pay you for the oppurtunity to go streaking at the super bowl
  5. Futurama would definitely do that for a tenner. *growls contently* How bout doin that to a sheep or something? Or performing some disgusting sexual act on a random barnyard animal? The absolute most embarrassing thing I can think of might not be worth any amount of money, because from then on I'd be known as the guy who * a * while *in the * with a * (use your imagination for the *s). Then the only people I'd meet would be unscrupulous people who were only interested in money and no one would respect me. You couldn't pay me to be disrespected worldwide
  6. ^^Well said. Maybe injecting someone with just a 'little' bit of smallpox will immunize them for the rest of their life  Maybe in terms of punishment, people will get carried away. A teacher, though? I can't imagine she enjoyed watchin those kids get upset, it's not like she's secretly hungry for their pain. She just wants to teach, and once the lesson is taught she's not going to push for more. That is not the way people's minds work. And there are millions of people who go through life who do have to worry if their skin is dark or light. The point is that it doesn't matter skin color, just like it doesn't matter eye or hair color. Once the kids understand that, that's a positive effect. Also Higo, I'm still waiting to see what you have to say about an long test. According to your argument: if you care for your kid, you shouldn't force him to take such a horrible piece of abuse. Just because he will learn valuable life skills doesn't justify the fact that he is suffering needlessly (and those life skills aren't necessarily proven anyway). By your argument, my end-of the-year exams were a crime against humanity and family values. And Lordhathor, insulting Higo was a little uncalled for, no matter how strongly you believe it to be true. I was kind of enjoying the argument, and you drove him away!
  7. How's your Iraqish? Me personally, well, I guess I'm open to suggestions. Only thing that I'm certain about is that I don't like science or math. Everything else, History, Language (I have considered translating for the military), Writing, proffessional sports ( ), Acting........I'm keeping my options open  Although really, I could probably settle for going on vacation and having someone mail me checks. If you have or know someone who has a job offer like that, lemme know 8)
  8. Higothrekk, are you serious? My mom went through a similar experience in grade school. She didn't enjoy it, because in her case it was people with blond hair or blue eyes that got made to stand out in the hall for a while. She was a goody-two shoes who never did anything wrong, but because of her hair and eyes (she had both blond and blue) she got punished. She approved of it eventually, even if she didn't enjoy it at the time. She thinks she learned from it, anyway. So basically, yes, I think my parents would be just fine if this test were put on me. Also, do you really think that the 'abuse' that you object to so much is really going to scar a kid for life? I experienced worse than that, and I'm mostly normal. Quite frankly, a kid who can't handle that kind of abuse is already in deep carp just because of regular growing-up unhappiness. This extra abuse that the teacher gave them is peanuts compared to, say, trying to find someone to talk to in a big cafeteria when your best friend is absent  And in fact, the entire idea of the exercise was to abuse the kids a little. Not too much, nothing extreme, nothing permanent, but instead just enough to make them know how it feels to be abused. Then they will know what it feels like to be abused (specifically, discriminated against), they will be more sympathetic to victims of racism, and consequently they will not be racists themselves. It is a harmless way of making kids sympathetic towards the feelings of others. Taking a test is a pain in the rear too. Do you say that that is abuse too and refuse to take the test? No. It is unpleasant, but it is how you learn. ____________________________ ......aaaaannnnd a little more on-topic, I didn't click the link, but from what you've said, I saw the video as a freshman in high school. It really is one of the best tools of teaching kids about racism I have ever encountered, and I've been subjected to a lot of useless drivel about caring and respect. People really should watch it if they can find the time. The most amazing to me is the kid who got in a fight. Teacher: Billy, why did you hit Tommy? Billy: He called me blue-eyed! ...and Billy really has blue eyes. Although that bit about test results reflecting whoever the teacher told them was superior at the time was pretty incredible too.
  9. ...Massachusetts...
  10. I don't think the people making the movies know any more than we do. It's not like you can guess the plot by looking at who they get to play certain parts. They're guessing just like we are. And they're changin so much carp around anyway, the book could have Harry ending up with Ginny and the movie could put him with Cho. I firmly believe Harry is done with Cho. Other than that, I agree with what you said. But I doubt Harry will end up dead. People don't do that in kid's books. You realize there's only about four swears in the entire five-book series? An author who refuses to make Harry swear when he gets off on one of his shoutin matches certainly isn't going to kill the main character.
  11. Thats exactly what I thought when I read it. I read it over and over it was so out of character. I caught that little "triumph" bit too. But I think it just means that Voldemort is going to find some unfortunate side-effects to putting Harry's blood in him. It's too good for him, or somethin like that. Like a woman taking Viagra. Who knows what could go wrong! I'm definitely looking forward to the sixth book, but I think I have to re-read the fifth, at least. It took me ten minutes to remember who Luna is, and I still only dimly remember her.
  12. just cause the American campaign is represented by a bunch of really self-important celebrities doesn't mean they're wrong...
  13. HEY, DON'T LEAVE US AMERICANS OUT! ^^Here's the American version of what Merc is talkin about. Remember, just because we have a self-styled messiah in office and are in the early stages of becoming an imperialist theocracy doesn't mean we can't give money to the same people we wage war on! [/bitterness]
  14. kidney stones... :( I do work out nearly everyday and I've gone up a lot in what I can lift but just havent gotten bigger. How old are you? Because if you're just comin out of a growth spurt, your body isn't goin to start filling out until it darn well wants too  . So if you're gaining strength but not weight, don't worry about it. The fact that you're gettin stronger is evidence enough that what you're doin is working, and you're body will start to look better when it decides it's gotten to that stage, and I don't think you can rush it. Besides, many athletes would love to be able to get much stronger without gaining weight. Boxers and wrestlers come to mind  On the topic of powders and stuff like that, I think they're a waste of money. My dad teaches chemistry at a prep school for big-time jocks, particularly hockey players. They all get some sorta powder. My dad looked at the ingredients in one and found a toxic chemical. Probably there's nothin toxic in this whey protein you're talkin about, but it just goes to show how much bull goes into get-buff-quick products. Eat a balanced diet; if you don't think you're gettin enough protein, eat an extra steak. The western diet is so rich anyway, you already have all the protein you need, and your body is just not using all of it right now. Your body will choose to put it to good use if you're working out when you start filling out. Basically, you're already in a protein wash, why do you need more? Then again, I aint a doctor, so don't trust me. I'm 6'4" (a few centimeters less than Knightlite) and still only 155 pounds  I worked out and doubled my strength in six months, gained over an inch and less than ten pounds, so I think I'm right where you are. But I aint worried. I'll get big eventually. In the meantime, I'm just really lean and a helluva lot stronger than I look  btw knightlite, 6'5" and 185 isn't too bad. I wouldn't complain if I were you  .....jeesh, I wrote an essay, didn't I? Sorry about that, I guess I got a lil carried away
  15. Since education is all about preparing for a future job anyway, you could make the argument that paying a kid to get good grades is just training him to work for his daily bread like he will have to do when he is movin away from home. In most cases, though, I have to agree with you. Ten bucks, even if it improves a kid's grades, isn't going to improve a kid's attitude about school, it's just going to make him more cynical about the whole process. Like you said, you gotta be workin for yourself. Otherwise, you get kind of bitter. And I obviously would not turn down a little bit of monetary motivation to keep my grades high 8)
  16. what were you doin that you had to be awake for 80 hours?? To answer your question, I've never even had to pull an all-nighter, so I have no idea when I'd collapse. At the end of the summer, I'm going to have a ton of work tho, so I'm lookin forward to finding out
  17. To the second: Hey, it's Hollywood. They always make up their science to fit the plot, not the other way around  I just saw Batman Begins yesterday, and it was pretty good. Not extraordinary, but pretty kick-a. Only real criticism is that all of the fight scenes were shot from really close-up with quick cuts, so it is impossible to tell what exactly is going on. Bale does do a good job though.
  18. Why has no one mentione? Green Day - American Idiot...is it too mainstream or something? Some that others already posted: Less Than Jake - Anthem Eminem - Marshall Mathers lp (I was actually surprised to find I can listen right through. Although I have to skip the skits......especially.......that one :? ) And I don't think anyone's mentioned one of my all time favorites (but only seven tracks  ): Godsmack - The Other Side
  19. Roadkill makes people sad whether its a deer or a squirrel or even a toad. Feelin it go under the wheels... But when it's impossible to avoid killin somethin small like that, the only thing to do is drive on, so we don't get angry. And dark ice, admitting when you're wrong has to be one of the hardest things to do, I hate doin it myself  So everyone else, lay off
  20. dark_ice: Obviusly, no one thinks that you should drive off the road and kill yourself crashing into a telephone pole just to save a deer. And quite frankly, if I was driving with a bunch of my friends and we launched a deer twenty feet in the air, we would be kind of amused by it. But you do have to consider that it probably suffered some pretty bad injuries, and it is now trying to survive with broken bones and punctured organs. True, it is just a deer, and I'm not sayin run into the woods to try and help it. But at least realize that it is another living thing and you should be a little sympathetic. It feels pain like you do and wants to survive like you do, even if it doesn't think like you do. So yeah, I can understand laughing when it flies through the air like that. I would just drive away. But it was alive, and now its dying a slow and painful death. We can't do anythin about it, so don't feel guilty or have a moment of silence or any bull like that. But at least recognize that it's a life being lost, painfully.
  21. yes, and this proves that disney chars r dumb. You've obviously not paid enough attention to the film. The Genie makes it clear that wishing for more wishes is not allowed. I was about to say the same thing  This actually proves how smart disney characters are because the genie was one step ahead of all the smart-alecks who would wish for more wishes  Anyway, I'd wish.......pssshhhh I got most of what I want already 8)
  22.  Looks like I've got my 18th bday party all lined up: drink a root beer, play with a pellet gun, and go enlist! Congrats KnightLite. It's sorta towards the end of the day, but enjoy whatever is left of your birthday :D EDIT: Oh, only 6:20? hell, go buy yourself a present
  23. How does the rest of the cd compare to speed of sound? Cuz I liked that one when I heard it on launch, if the others are that good I'll definitely buy the cd.
  24. I talk to a lot of kids who have trouble with English (mostly Asian), and I find that I do actually re-word what I'm saying sometimes. But you know, I do that with native speakers to, so it's no big deal. I just inherited a weird vocabulary from my dad that not everyone understands, so I moderate it if I'm about to use some obscure word. Mostly, all that really changes when I'm speaking to someone who has trouble with English is that I slow down and speak a lot more clearly.
