The only thing I really have to point out is that motherboard. It does not say it supports a core 2 duo. That chipset is also kind of old. Another thing is that you said you already have ram to use but what kind is it? Is it DDR or DDR2? If you only have 1gb of ram I would also recommend to upgrade to 2gb. No graphics card either? If not make sure the motherboard has onboard graphics. If your budget is in Australian then why are you picking a site that only ships to the US?

First of all you recomended Windows 2000, which is old and everybody would argue atleast to get Windows xp. You called Vista a pig with no reasons behind it. Then you recommended 10+ gigs of ram to run Vista which it not true. You can run premium perfectly fine on 2gigs of ram or less. Vista is not that much of a ram hog.

One number could be how many have shipped while others could be what has been sold. There is a big difference.

I lied, by looking at the benchmarks again the E4300 is closer to the amd 4800+ cpu. The Intel price drops I have been reading about have not mention of the E4300 dropping. It's pretty cheap anyway at $120 (last time I checked). Benchmarks here . Although be careful when reading those benchmarks because it can get confusing, pay close attention to the model names and the core of the cpu, especially with the athlons that have many different cores. There is a dual boot loader that will boot Linux first, the default one. Well I know the default one in Ubuntu boots linux first if you do not select windows. One thing to watch for when comparing motherboards is that it supports your cpu correctly. If you do go an AMD approch as long as you get the right socket, it will run on that motherboard. Intel is a little more complicated than that. Another thing to look for is a good brand. Good brands include ASUS, Gigabyte, DFI, MSI, Epox, Foxcon, and Biostar (depends on which motherboard). I recomend not getting something too fancy, you don't need (or can aford) a expensive motherboard so don't spend over $100 on one.

Are you saying that the reason the PS2 sold more than the xbox was because of the PS2 was out longer? you're saying that the xbox would of sold more if it was out before and had a previous gen console? He is saying the reason it sold more is it had a reputation behind it. The playstation was largely popular. People had no idea what the Xbox was all about when it came out. I doubt the 360 will break 20mil. The PS2 was successful because it was for everyone, it had every genre and a great price. It wasn't because of its fanbase, its release date or anything like that. It was because of how good of a console it was. You fanboyism is quite sad. If you look at the technical specs of both the Xbox and the ps2, the xbox was faster than the ps2. You can even argue that the xbox had better games with the Halo franchise which came out later. You can not disprove facts. The xbox was Microsoft's first atemp and nobody really knew what it was but the ps2 had a predecessor, the playstation which was popular and people were familiar with the brand already. You don't think the 360, it's already sold more than 11 million and will be on the market for at least another 4 years like the rest of the consoles. That's untrue. They do break but not constantly as you may think, even if they do, Microsoft will fix it for free and even pay for shipping. I think you should get a 360 because the awesome games like Gears of War and GTA4 when it comes out.

July 22 is the date to wait for. Intel is having another price drop with their core 2 duo line of processors. Right now AMD and Intel are tied for price to performance ratio in the mid-range and Intel tops the high range. After this price drop it should put them in the lead on everything (for a little while until AMD's Barcelona chips come out) Oh somebody said they need proof that Intel overclocks higher than AMD? Well it should be obvious because Intel processors run on a 65nm scale while AMD's are still on the 90nm scale and transitioning to 65nm with some problems.

What 1.8ghz core 2 duo? The E4300 or E6300/E6320? Anyways, you would need a athlon 5400+ to equal that. If you are looking to play games, don't consider Linux. It probably will not support the games you friends are suggesting. You will need Windows to game. If you want to run linux for everything besides games, you can by setting up a dual boot.

A ps2 emulator is a lot different than a n64. You need a very fast computer to run a ps2 emulator without lag. Unless you have a computer from this year you probably will not get playable framerates.

Even people that had to pay to get their's fixed are being refunded. That's something Sony did not do with ps2's because they break [usually] right after the crappy warranty is up.

When it switches between mbs it is normal. The signal your getting in the pictures is very good. Although if you say it's dropping the connection completely there may be interference with another network. Try changing the channel of the router. To access the router settings log into the computer that is hard wired to the router (not wireless) and type in the following in the address bar. 192.168.1.1 It should be that address if your using a linksys router and many other brands, if not there are another few you can try.
