  1. I could get youtube videos on my ipod for free too. I wouldn't have to buy $50 software to do it either. There is always a free alternative to save you money.
  2. Snipersas you really think 305watts of power is enough for a new graphics card? You must be crazy. Dell puts the minimum that is needed to power it with just the components that they supply. Those graphics cards may be an option to come with that computer but they also must put a stronger psu. It may run with that power supply but your just asking for trouble. EDIT: I just even noticed in the links you posted they even mention you need a minimum of 400watts on a 8600gts.
  3. That page from Dell lists what that computer can have in it, not what you have in yours exactly. Your picture is broken also. Your power supply is too weak for any new graphics card. You will have to upgrade that also.
  4. Is your slot PCI or PCI-express? There is a big difference, don't get them confused.
  5. Better recheck your math.
  6. If you think it's spyware use Ad-aware and Spybot for spyware scanners and AVG Free for a virus scan.
  7. It's probably not your fan thats making it loud. It's probably your hard drive spinning up that makes it loud and causing the lag. To play BF2 without lag you need 1.5-2GBs of ram and since you only have 1GB it's swapping off the page file thats on the hard drive which is very slow compared to physical ram.
  8. SLI is pointless unless your some person with deep pockets. Why did you SLI 2 midranged cards? I'm sure it costed more money to do that then buy a top of the line card and get better performance.
  9. Well duh it's not the programs fault, a dual core processor has 1 full processor more than a single core, of course it's going to be faster.
  10. Isn't it Always 1024MB? I know that sometimes it will be displayed as 1000MB= 1GB..but isn't the true value 1024MB = 1GB? Not exactly. It's always displayed 1024MB in an operating system such as Windows. Manufacturers of storage such as in flash memory and hard drives like to count it as 1000MBs to a GB to have the advertised space larger than it really is.
  11. If he has a corrupted tcpip file then wouldn't it be easier to do a repair Windows install? Why the hell would you want him to manually update the definitions by replacing files when all of the programs you mentioned have built in updaters?
  12. Not true, every program that is mutlithreaded currently can support a single core processor by only using 1 thread for the program. Thats how it will be for a long time to come too. It might just be twice as slow only using one thread other than 2 but it will work.
  13. Which scanners did you use to scan for spyware and viruses? Use Ad-aware 2007, and Spybot for spyware and AVG for viruses. They are all free. Have you tried to defrag your hard drive? Disk cleanup? Resetting your modem to improve internet speed?
  14. The UPS is not the power supply. Well it technicaly is a power supply but it's external. It is used to regulate power to the computer and supply power to the components that it's plugged into when your power goes out. If you bought a new power supply because of that message, then you realy need to read up more.
  15. Have any proof that the Intel chipset isn't as good? Or is that just one of your preferences? I see nothing wrong with the Intel chipset. Especially getting the Gigabyte DQ6 which is one of the best motherboards out there.
  16. Have you tried updating the firmware?
  17. To add to Nadril's suggestions, which is a great build, you could possibly step up to a quad core for about $550 for the cpu. Pair that with 4GB of ram and you have one of the best systems you could put together. The quad cores are not being taken advantage in gaming atm buy when Crysis and Unreal tournament come out, they will. Which are coming out early 4th quarter of this year.
  18. That is not a good idea, this could disable his firewall and virus scanner. It may also disable some drivers which would cause problems.

It doesn't it look like it. It sounds as if it were the first generation of the core architecture, the Core Duo. Either way the Core Duo is still a very good processor but not as good as the Core 2 Duo. Also don't expect it to be a gaming laptop but it will be fine for light gaming and of course, it will run Runescape fine that was stated above.
  20. Wait, the computer your building in your thread is only costing you $600? Wow
  21. For that overclock you will need a new cooler. Don't let some of the reviews fool you saying that you don't. I know from personal experience. You will not need some $60 high end cooler to do that though maybe one of the above ones suggested.
  22. That PSU is good for the graphics card you picked out now but it will not be strong enough for the 9 series when it comes out. The 12v rails are really weak for a 500w psu. I recommend something with 18+ on each rail. For cooling the case you picked out has 2 120mm fans for intake and exhaust which is a must have with any case. If you are going to overclock a 3rd party heatsink is a must. The E4300 gets hot soon as you up the voltage at all. Trust me, I'm running the same processor :P . Give me a price range for what your willing to spend on a cpu cooler and I can suggest something.
  23. It's not recognizing your soundcard because you probably didn't install the drivers  . Hard drives are always going to be smaller than they are advertised to be. Windows and other operating systems measure a measure a megabyte in 1024KB while Hard Drive makers measure a megabyte at 1000KB. That should have not caused the big loss of space that has happened to you though.
  24. For $2000 you could build a very good gaming computer. Or get an average gaming computer pre-built for $2000. I would highly suggest building one to get the the best parts for the least money especially then you can get a good graphics card that can handle your high resolution monitor. The graphics card isn't all about the memory it has either  , but it does help, especially at the resolution your looking at. I suggest the 8800GTS 640mb, or even the 320mb version if the first option is not affordable.
