Missing Hard drive space.
What type of partition did you format the drive in? If it's FAT32 there is a limit to 137GBs. Windows XP by default uses the NTFS file system which does not have a size limit and is better than the above. To check to see what it is go to my computer and right click on the drive, click properties and it should say it next to "file system". If you have the original disks that came with the computer it "should" have put that back, if not you probably can't get it back. NOTE: That was not a separate physical hard drive it was partition or space that is sectioned off that the computer thinks is a second drive.

My comp is kinda slow...
Thats your wireless speed on your internal network. That is not your speed that connects you to the internet.

Is anyone upgrading to vista?
Serrious? I wouldn't even dream or think of running vista on 512 mb of ram, let alone trying to game with it. I'm going to upgrade once DX 10 becomes more common. Right now it just isn't worth it. It's vista basic- so it isnt as bad. I can run RS with no lag, except for when windows was downloading updates. I checked, and it only uses 65%-80% of memory when running RS :) Thats Runescape, it doesn't count. When people say their gaming they mean "real" games like FPS games or WoW.

Want to build a comp
You can do it with 8x but it would obviously be slower than 16x. Although most graphics cards do not even use the full 8x bandwidth, so it may have no difference at all. By the time you want to SLI a graphics card because your not getting enough performance you could just get 1 single card thats faster. Unless you just want to have a computer with SLI to be cool and don't care about performance.

Insane Assylums
I live a couple cities over from there. I have been there, it's a very freaky place. I was in that place a few years ago with some friends. I was so scared, especially since the place is deserted and your the only ones there. It's a shame they knocked most of it down last year though.

Want to build a comp
The whole Nvidia 6 series chipset is the same except the 650i has SLI with 2 8x pci-e lanes while the 680i has pci-e with 2 16x lanes. Other than that there is not much difference. Getting the more expensive 680i chipset would be a waist without SLI and just cost you more money with no benefit.

My comp is kinda slow...
Make sure you are using the new Ad-aware 2007, it came out about a week ago. It finds a lot more stuff than the older version. It is also free. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Want to build a comp
A 430w power supply is nowhere near enough to power a 8800gts. Get something 550watts or better. That 3800+ CPU will bottleneck a 8800gts (especially the 640mb). I recommend a Core 2 Duo CPU 4GB or ram is great and good to really future proof your rig but will not be needed anytime soon. You could cut it down to 2GB to save some money. You should not need a hard drive cooler if you get a good case with a intake fan blowing on the hard drive (or near it). Even with the 10k rpm drive. It would be nice to post the links of the items you are buying too  .

My comp is kinda slow...
It probably because you don't have a lot of ram. Upgrading to 1-2GBs of ram would make you computer a lot faster. Have you tried scanning for viruses and spyware?

HP or Dell on Vista?
Yeah, I might go and upgrade the RAM myself, but im not sure if i can get them to do it for me. The screen looks tight.. 20" Baby! If they do it for you it's probably going to be $150. I was looking at getting 2GBs for a machine I was going to order and it was like $150 to go from 1GB to 2GB. RAM is the easiest thing to upgrade in a computer, it's plug and play. You would also save yourself around $100 because 1GB of ram is about $50. The 20" screen is extra, just so you know. It says 19" in the ad and a 20" is $150 upgrade, just to let you know so you don't get let down when ordering  .

HP or Dell on Vista?
If you upgrade the ram yourself instaid of them doing it for you (and they will also charge you an arm and a leg). It has a good processor, a dedicated graphics card (granted it's not the greatest, but it's still something), awesome screen, and Vista Home Premium. Can't get too much better than that for that much money.

Adding an old hard drive.
You can have as many drive as you like (providing you have that many hookups) You don't need to go into the boot menu, I only mentioned that as a precaution if the hard drive you are using has windows already installed and it boots of that drive instaid of your regular drive. Just plug it in, start up your computer like you normal do, go to my computer and you should see another drive.

The best way to annoy someone?
Okay this is by far the best thing to annoy somebody. You need to get a whole class of students and the teacher in on this to annoy just one kid. Every time the kid talks you do not give a response, talk to him, laugh, or anything else. You just have to point at him while he is talking and then when he is done talking, 5 seconds later you stop pointing. Keep doing it for a whole period and it will annoy him or scar him for life :P . My teacher loved this because we pulled it on somebody who would always talk during his class and this was one way the teacher got back at him.

how long have you been gaming?
I was 3 or 4 and first started playing Doom. What a good game that was, I still play it to this day :) . My Dad introduced me to the game. Granted my Mom didn't realy like it for me to play a game rated M when I was 4.

computor crash error?
It's not a virus, somebody planted a batch file run at startup that shuts down his computer, nothing more. It can easily be fixed by going to safemode and go to startup tab in msconfig and uncheck the file from starting.

Windows XP to be discontinued in early 2008
Oh yeah don't expect it to be done in the expected time anyway. Vista was delayed twice before it got released  .

Windows XP to be discontinued in early 2008
I thought Vista was built from the ground up and the only thing it kept was the kernel. :? I also thought that the next Windows would be an improved version of Vista like XP was to 2000. I could be seriously wrong though. I got the information from digg like 6 months ago.

computor crash error?
press f8 repeatedly when you turn on your computer on until you see a screen that gives you boot options. Select "safe mode with networking" to have your internet work so you can update your scanners before scanning.

6 years with this computer, new comp, or upgrade?
I agree with Nadril, 1GB of ram would be a very good upgrade. You could upgrade the graphics card but since the game you mentioned, Runescape, is not graphically intense your onboard should be fine.

Adding an old hard drive.
Although all that information above is relevant, he should not have to worry. If should not have to select the jumpers on the drive if it's the only IDE hard drive. Instaid of moving the jumpers on the hard drive, he can change the boot sequence in the bios which is much easier. You might not even have to do this, because motherboards usualy select to boot from SATA hard drives first. The new style IDE (the 80pin cable) is probably what he has if his motherboard supports SATA.
-
Adding an old hard drive.
No it will still work. You just have to plug the IDE drive into an IDE cable that then plugs into the motherboard. If you don't have an extra IDE cable to dedicate to that drive you can put it on the same cable as your cd drive, which probably still uses IDE unless you have a fancy new drive that was only made a few months ago.

Adding an old hard drive.
You would need to hook it up to an IDE cable, assuming it's an IDE drive. If it's SATA, well then, hook it up to a SATA cable. If you primary drive is IDE hook it up to the second plug on the ribbon cable. If you have an operating system installed on that old drive it should not be a problem but if it tries to boot from it go into the bios and change it. To get into the bios press the del key repeatedly when you start your computer.
