Bruiser.
G'day Folks. Just thought i'd post a story that i've just finished writing for a year 10 english assessment on friday. It was in our exam block, the last exam on friday. We had to basically sit down and write a short story for an hour that was rooted in the topic that we've been studying this term, which is 'Australian Tapestry', which is basically Australian literature about Australian issues. We also have to write a connected story in about two weeks, one that we can just hand in this time, but is has to have some connection to the original, they will be marked side by side. I haven't got the faintest idea as to what this new one will be about, it could be a sequel, prequel, use one of the same characters in a completely different situation, the same problems with different characters etc, it just has to have a link, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh and i need a good title, so suggestions for that too plz, it wasn't required in the exam. I'll let you read it now :P EDIT: Are swear words allowed in this context? Because they are part of the story... -------------------- Having the nickname of ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâBruiser̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ gives anyone a pretty good idea of what type of person you are. If you haven̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t guessed yet, the owner of the nickname, Jimmy Bruce, is a tough kid. Passionate about sport and his mates, in later years he will slot nicely into the blue collar, country born and bred stereotype. The type of guy that not even a broken nose could deter him from a game of footy, especially from a semi final. The sweet, sickly taste of blood crept into his mouth as he jogged after his opponent. He was a mess, sweaty, blood over half of his face, but that didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t deter him in the slightest. It instilled a certain fear into his opponents, a massive 6̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢2̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
[hide]Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan. They must have done it on the island where they met at the end of the movie. It shows a boy skipping down a hill singing the song that they sung in the begging at the hanging. Swan then follows him, it says 10 years later in captions down the bottom, they stare out over a cliff, green flash and then you see turner hanging off the side of the flying dutchman smiling. cut![/hide]

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
I saw it yesterday, i thought it was great, however the whole movie stopped half way through, and it skipped like 15 minutes of the movie, so everyone had no idea where we were lol. Not to mention that i was in a group of people, who didn't exactly let me divert my full attention to the movie... my Gf being one of them, if u catch my drift ha. I'm deffinantly going to see it again. It truely is a visual masterpeice, even if the storyline is a bit complex. When you see it, make sure you stay to the VERY end, after all the credits, to see what looks like a link to the next one, although i doubt that they will make one. It looks very cool :D Oh and everyone who was in my screening got a free voucher for another ticket because of the mishap, so it wasn't all bad.

The Chaser's War On Everything
Haha the Chasers is awesome. They're really clever, and very daring, they've all been arrested on more than one occasion. No matter how over the top most of it is, it's still hilarious. My favourite would have to be them getting into the airport and doing a final boarding call over the PA system for Mr. Terry Rist and Mr Al Kida (quaeda). My favourite bit's of last week were deffinantly walking into the RSL's and giving messages over the PA's there and them taking off 'The Secret' especially smashing the car. One of the guys is the son of the head of english at my school btw, they shoot alot of stuff at here, like in the infirmary and the pool.

Lighttsaborz, rate please.
Haha it looks pretty cool, nice work, the lightsaber looks pretty convincing, except for the left hand blade where it meets the handle/staff part, the blade goes over the handle, and it shouldn't.

Photography Thread II
It's a Canon EOS 400D you use? Go to the menu and then go to "Quality". There will now be various options, There are RAW options so select the one that says "RAW" not any of the others unless you want to have a RAW file and a processed JPEG of the same shot. This would fill up your card faster. Remember though, RAW files are larger than JPEGs so invest in bigger cards! Thanks, But what are the benefits of shooting in RAW? With RAW there will be no compression that occurs with JPEG's, it'll just give you a more detailed shot, they're better for printing. I'm not sure about the actual size of pixels, it may make the photo physically larger too.

The Best Sport's Team In The Entire World?
Totally agreed, that team was awesome. Ilove Ricky Ponting because he's such an awesome fielder, not to mention batting. My favourite team is the Sydney Swans (AFL) but that doesn't mean that they're neccisarily the best...

Accents and stereotypical views....
And it definately isn't Steve Irwin either. Man, I went on a tour of Europe, and every day I was asked by at least one person if I had wrestled a crocodile -.- Eventually I just started talking up the Drop Bears to make it seem more impressive :-w Haha this was 6 years ago, so Steve Irwin wasn't as well known. I feel your pain though. Drop bears is a great myth haha, we did it to our American cousins, who wouldn't walk under a tree for ages, until one of them was smart enough to look it up on the internet. for anyone who doesn't know: [hide=Drop Bears]dropbear) is a fictional Australian marsupial said to be related to the koala. Drop bears are commonly said to be unusually large, vicious, carnivorous koalas that inhabit treetops and attack their prey by dropping onto their heads from above. They are an example of local lore intended to frighten and confuse outsiders, and amuse locals, similar to the jackalope, hoop snake, haggis or snipe hunting. Some suggest that the drop bear myth is designed to discourage children from straying needlessly below eucalyptus trees, protecting them from the very real danger of getting hit by a falling branch. Arbitrary detachment of old branches is common with certain species of the eucalyptus, which are known as 'widow-makers' for this very reason. Similar theories are attached to the cone from the bunya tree. The drop bear myth appears to have first appeared during the latter half of the 20th century, and may have its origins with Phascolarctos stirtoni, the carnivorous Phascolarctos involus or perhaps Thylacoleo carnifex, which belong to a group of extinct animals known as Australian megafauna. The prehistoric creatures were approximately twice the size of modern koalas. Thylacoleo is thought to have been an arboreal predator that may well have ambushed prey by dropping on it from overhead branches. Stories of drop bears are often told to unsuspecting foreign visitors to illustrate Australian morbid humour. It is suggested that doing ridiculous things like having forks in the hair or Vegemite or toothpaste spread behind the ears will deter the creatures. A great add: # A 2004 commercial for Bundaberg Rum showed three Scandinavian women camping under a tree, when four Australian men stated that they shouldn't camp there as there were "drop bears - a bigger meaner koala" and that "they grab your head". Laughing this off they return to setting up camp when "Bundy Bear", the seven-foot tall polar bear mascot for Bundaberg Rum, falls from the tree above. The girls then run in fear into the Australian men's camp. [/hide]

Accents and stereotypical views....
Haha Australia has the worst stereotypes, the way we talk, we all own a kangaroo etc etc (When i went to England i was asked this 7 times by complete strangers in a week and a half lol... and twice in the 4 days i was in france). Seriously no-one is like that. Ok the accent might be more laid back than other countries, but it certainly isn't Mick Dundee style, and it's only really the country people that you would associate it with. Australia is such a multicultural society, aswell as any developing nation really, that stereotypes very rarely portrtay what the majority of the populace is like anyway.

Why Do People Constantly Whine About Arguing?
So true, all we'd have are discussions about current news and spam topics such as 'what is your favourite food' or 'what colour is your hair', my favourite. I'd have to agree with the majority of the posters in saying that most people who at least have a small ammount of maturity hate arguing because it's pretty much pointless. (not to be confused with debate or discussion  )
-
Whoa...
Haha it's funny Eels because we have those three threads on the first page, not to mention 'when is your birthday'. Don't you just love really enthralling, interesting topics that encourage a large ammount of debate? I'll be one of the few to ignore the petty arguing (however amusing) and say welcome back.

Underage Drinking
I'm in year 10 (turning 16) and easily the vast majority of my year group drink/have drunk alcohol before. In Australia it's pretty lax i reackon, 80% of parties there will be alcohol, but no-one really gets drunk, everyone is pretty responsible, and considering none of us can drive (without at fully licensed person in the car) drink driving isn't a probem that we've had to face. I go to a expensive catholic highschool in the well off part of sydney btw, so it's not as if we are all drunk kids dropping out of school at 16 and living on the streets. That may have been a bit of an exageration, but you get the point. Even the cops aren't that strict about it really, if they see you drinking in a park or something they will just come over and tip the drinks out, and send you on your way. Legal drinking age is 18 here btw, if you didn't know. I can understand in America why i would be such a 'cool' thing to do, the age being 21, and people believing that it's 'cool' to break the rules etc etc, i spose thats why it's not such a huge issue over here. Although there will always be the teens who get smashed every weekend without fail, and i reackon thats just stupid personally, you destroying your body. Everything in moderation i reackon. My parents don't really care, aslong as it's not too often and i don't really get drunk and i'm safe etc.

Slayer... Is it bringing back a *similair* RSC?
Exactly, i find that people training slayer are much nicer in general than the rest of the rs population. Only in the higher level areas though. I'd have to put it down the fact that slayer is a hard skill to train, it requires a decent amount of patience and persistance, something i would say not common in most people, especially get levels of 75+. People who work hard to acheive their goals tend to be nicer people, in my experiences at least. RM

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Power Rangers
Powers Rangers, for the simple fact that their theme song is the greatest themesong of all time. Period. TMNT has a much better story line though.

Have you ever done a menial job?
I've worked in ma uncles box factory a few times, not cardboard boxes, like fancy ones from polypropelene (plastic). It's not too bad, just wack your ipod in and go, metal edging or folding or glueing, the cutting and stuff was done by the older guys who could operate the machinery. The pay wasn't bad, and i didn't get a rise or w/e for working for my uncle, it was standard. It does get a tad monotonous when your doing 15,000 of the same boxes though. They were for weight watches btw. EDIT: i've been reading the stories, there bleeping hilarious, no joke, some of the funniest stuff i've read in a long time. Go to the link everyone, it's well worth it.

ANZAC day
If i remember correctly the casualties were 87,000 turks and 8700 Aussies, 2500 Kiwis, coincidental numbers. Not to mention the British, French, and New Zealanders who died aswell. But it's not the casualties, but rather the extrodinary bravery that they showed in the face of defeat, the mateship and comradery that should be remembered, and makes us who we are today.

ANZAC day
I have to disagree. If it was voluntary then pretty much no one would go. It depends where you go, i reckon a good 80% of my 1500 student school would go. There would be the people who would see it as'cool' not to go though, and others would follow suit. I think that unless you are very ignorant you can see the connection between the diggers and us, and the amzing sacrafices that they made to protect our country. I went to the dawn service in Sydney today, it was very moving. It was raining pretty much the whole time, but there were thousands and thousands of people there, which just shows you that people do realise what the diggers did and want to honour them. Lest We Forget.
