  1. Pick up your arrows if you can. You can use each arrow about 4 times. That will save you a lot of money. The easiest way to pick up your arrows is to cast a Curse on the monster first. That will "pull" the monster over to your safe spot to allow all of your arrows to drop in the monster's loot pile. I usually range (f2p) lesser demons (with bronze, lol) on the top of crandor island. They drop the occasional rune med. Hope this helps
  2. How dissapointing. IMHO, that's not really a sufficient reason to not update the calculator. Especially since the Tip It Range guide says So Tip It is already suggesting a p value of 0.80 My main point here is that there is nothing to guide RS rangers in the estimation of arrow consumption. That's in spite of the fact that it's a very simple calculation. Is anyone at Tip It gonna bother organizing this effort?
  3. The armor level doesn't matter. Full bronze works as well as full rune. What the OP needs to do is to get his Magic attack stat to -65 or worse. That can be done with a full helm, plate armor, legs, and kite shield of any metal. If you want to use a Water or Earth staff to save on runes then you need to add green dragonhide vambraces as well. Look at the magic attack stats for this: (all pictures by DroolMAN) If you add up the magic attack stats you get: -6-30-21-8 = -65 If you include the Water (or Earth) staff and the green dragonhide vambraces then you get: -65+10-10 = -65 Do not wear a magic amulet when casting. Remember, the idea is to fail when casting the Curse spell. That way, you can re-use the same monster but get the full 29 mage exp each time. Hope this helps
  4. It depends on your budget and if you are P2P or F2P. If you are F2P and want to do it cheaply then Failed Curses is a very good method. You will always get 29 mage exp when casting Curse. Just make sure that you "fail" when casting so you can re-use the same monster. You will earn about 1 mage exp for every 1 gp spent on runes if you buy them. If you spend the time to RC Bodies and Earths then the mage exp only costs you time. Fire strike only averages about 19 mage exp per cast so I don't bother with them. Crumble undead averages about 39 mage exp per cast but can cost around 110 gp or so per cast. That's only about 1/3 mage exp per 1 gp spent. You can cast other spells but, in general, the mage exp earned per 1 gp spent is only gonna get worse. As far as location goes, you can use almost any safe location where the monsters can't reach you. A popular spot is the "key room" in the Varrock sewers. No monsters spawn in that location and you can cast across the water into the 4 zombie ladder room. It's a multi-combat location so you will almost always have a target to attack. Other locations linclude the caged Lesser in the wizzy tower, caged red monk under the Varrock palace stairs, white knights in the screen/torture room, scorpions in the Al-kharid mine (cast from above), healing monks in the Monastery back yard (use the wall), etc. Many monsters have a "wander/walk" area that they will never walk out of. So, if you stand just outside of this area, you can range or mage them and be perfectly safe. Finally, Curse does not give HP exp and can't be autocast. Hope this helps
  5. A few things to consider... Can you use the secret door to Crandor island yet? There are 3 or 4 Lessers under Crandor island and another 2 on top of it. So, that provides you with more training places if the Karamja Lessers get crowded. Also, there are 3 Moss giants on Crandor that you can try. If you decide to try a Silverlight against the Lessers then you can get a Silverlight from the Demon Slayer quest or by giving Sir Prysin 500 gp (if you lose Silverlight after finishing the quest) If you decide to switch to ranging the Lessers then take a look at the Tip It Range damage table You may find that Bronze or Iron arrows work almost as well as Steel or better. IIRC, a lot of monsters in the Security Stronghold drop a lot of arrows. If you do decide to range the Lessers, then always start the fight by casting a Curse on them first. Then go stand in your safe spot and wait for the Lesser to approach. It will stop outside of your safe spot. Now start to shoot it. This way all of your recoverable arrows will be in the loot pile when the lesser dies. It makes arrow recovery so much easier and limits arrow stealers. Plus, you don't have to risk getting hit by other Lessers becuase you don't have to run around gathering arrows. I normally never bothered to take food when ranging Lessers since they never even had a chance to hit me. Also, since each arrow can be used about 4 times, that can save you a lot of money in the long run. IIRC, I would get back 20 out of 25 shot Bronze arrows when killing lessers. Also, if you alternate your arrows shots between 2 Lessers then you can kill "2 Lessers at once" in a non-multicombat location ;) Hope this helps
  6. You can always fail with any full metal armor set (4 pieces or more). Full bronze works as well as full rune. AFAIK, Curse can't be autocast with any staff. The Mud staff just saves you from needing any water or earth runes. Hope this helps
  7. But it's still faster than using Strike spells with Mind runes. Also, you don't need to wear full rune armor to fail. Full Bronze would work just as well. All the matters is the magical attack stat. You want it to be -65 or worse. Well, if you wear full helm, chest armor, legs, and shield then you can always fail so the monster's magic defence doesn't matter. Hope this helps
  8. The muddy key drops from Chaos Dwarves in the wildy and opens the muddy chest found in the end of the wildy lava maze as riku3220 showed on his map. The contents of the chest can be found here. Hope this helps
  9. And you get 5 full loads of iron ore smelting with it. That's 140 total ore and then the ring is destroyed. The smelt total is kept as part of your "invisible" player stats and not on the ring itself. Hope this helps
  10. It depends on what your goals are. If you really want to raise your smithing level to be able to do Mith, Addy, or Rune gear then smelt the bars until you reach level 47. Then, use a dwarven stout and smith the bars into steel plate and then Hi-alch them. Otherwise, if you want lotsa cash, then sell the bars. So it all depends on what your goals are. Hope this helps.
  11. Level 79 if you don't pick up Level 85 if you do pick up. If you know how to do it right, you can pick up your arrows with 1 click... Hope this helps.
  12. Well, for F2P runes the RC exp earned is 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5 for Air, Mind, Water, Earth, Fire, and Body runes. In terms of bank distance we have something like Close: Body, Earth, Air Medium: Fire Far: Water, Mind So Body runes might be the fastest RC leveling since you get the most exp per trip and because the altar is fairly close to a bank. Jagex recently removed most of the western fence in Edgeville and put a tiny shortcut near the west side of the Barbarian village. That shortens the Body altar trip nicely. But since you can do 4x airs, you may be able to just stand at the Air altar and craft for other players by trading 112 Airs for 28 essense. If there are enough players around then you can really get fast exp if you don't want to keep the runes. Hope this helps.
  13. 2 Curse spells give about the same exp as 3 Fire Strike spells... So the OP can reach his goal with about only 3402 Curses instead of 5103 Fire Strikes. Either spell costs about 30 gp to cast so Curse will save him about 51000 gp overall. Since the OP wanted the cheapest way to level mage, Curse would be a better choice than Fire Strike. Even if the OP made all of the runes himself, it would still cost him less time since the Body altar is closer to a bank than the Mind altar and since he needs fewer Bodies anyway. The downside of Curse is, of course, that you can't autocast it. Hope this helps
  14. I would also add that if you just want to raise your mage level without concern for earning HP exp, then Curse gives more exp than any Mind rune based spell. Plus it's a shorter walk to the Body altar anyway... Hope this helps.
  15. For pricing questions you can use the Tip It market place forums. For Herblore items look here. Hope this helps
  16. Goobore replied to Zoob's topic in Help and Advice
Your max hit with range does go up with your range level. For example, with Addy arrows the max hit is about AddyMaxHit = floor( (RangeLevel + 16)/7 ) You can look at the Tip It Range Damage Table to see how arrow type and Range level influence your max hit. Hope this helps
  17. That doesn't matter. Any player that is doing the quest and joins the other gang will work. The point of the quest is that you can't get both pieces yourself. IIRC, the reward will only work for someone that hasn't finished the quest but has gotten one of the shield pieces from the chest/cupboard. IIRC, Catherine in the SW corner of Varrock is the leader of the Black Arm gang. You can go and talk to her. If she "hates" you then you are in the Phoenix gang. The Phoenix gang is underground in the south center part of Varrock. IIRC, as long as you have -- not finished the quest -- do not have the shield piece in inventory -- and do not have it in your bank then you can always get another piece by just searching the chest/cupboard again. The Black Arm shield piece is the upper right piece and the Phoenix piece is the lower left piece. Hope this helps
  18. Well, I kind of think that you are asking the "wrong" question. Generally speaking, you want to either train for loot or for fast exp. For loot, train on higher level monster such as Giants, Demons, Dragons, etc. For fast exp you want to be hitting constantly, non-stop. Killing is not really the issue. You earn melee exp with hits and not with the monster's death. So what you want to train on are monsters that are easy to hit and don't/can't hurt you as well. Also, there should be plenty of them and they should not be overhunted by other players. And, if you can do all that with little food used then you are in good shape for fast leveling. So, a monster that meets they above requirement is the Pirate(s) that spawn in the cave before you reach the Blurite cave. They have about 23 HP and give 92 exp to a solo skill per kill. There are about 9 that spawn in that cave and, IMHO, are not overhunted. Since they are only level 26 (or so) they should be easy for you to kill without taking much damage. Drops are bronze arrows, iron junk, gems, etc. You are kinda far from a bank but you should not need to bank very often. There are other monsters that you can try (zombies, skellies, guards, etc) but for fast leveling, I suggest monsters much lower than yourself. Hope this helps.
  19. You get 1/8 of a combat level for each Prayer level increase. So, 11 prayer will give you 1 to 2 levels depending on what your other stats are. For example, Defense and Hitpoints each add 1/4 of a combat level per level. Hope this helps
  20. That depends on what you mean when you say "best" Do you mean cheapest, fastest, easiest to cast, using bought runes or crafted runes, P2P or F2P, etc. In general, Death rune based spells hit harder (and give more HP exp) than Chaos based runes. Chaos rune, in turn, hit harder than Mind rune based spells. I suggest that you consult Tip Its magic exp table for guidance. The exp listed for Crumble Undead is still wrong but Crumble gives decent exp for the effort spent in getting the runes. Hope this helps
  21. I always liked using the Fally east bank. You start burning east of the bank near the unused houses and, if you start in just the right place, you end right at the entrance to the bank. Then repeat that except start 1 square north of your old burn line. Repeat again. Hope this helps
  22. With power ranging, you should gain about 3 levels to reach 83. If you pick up your arrows then you should gain about 10 levels to reach 90 If you trained on the Crandor Island lessers then you can safely pick up your arrows with 1 click. Hope this helps
  23. AFAIK, the price goes up as the quantity in stock goes down. So, compare prices when the store has equal amounts of both in stock.
  24. IIRC, Split equally.
  25. You can autocast Strike (Mind), Bolt (Chaos), and Blast (Death) spells. Members can autocast Crumble Undead with the slayer staff. But, you can't autocast Curse though. Hope this helps
