Tip.It Times - Total amount of GP in RS?
Guessing it at around ~1300bil now, but I'll probably do some calculations soon again to update it with likewise calculations as I made in this article.

Estimation at money drained after just 3 days
As I've said oftenly, I think inflation (and thus deflation as well) only really has much effect on rares. Raw materials have much more stable prices and never seemed to care much about the extreme inflation going on in this game. Pseudo-rares do react a bit on inflation and deflation and if I can believe the stories I read on the forums, whips and such items did drop a bit in price as well. Well, it's gonna be very important how much people will still level construction when the newness of the skill is wearing off. If people barely level the skill then, the issue of deflation is just temporary and thus not that worrying as it currently seems. However, I think we can't currently say much about all that. Well I'm sure it'll never get that extreme. :P

Estimation at money drained after just 3 days
Yes, I've done similiar calculations in the past few days and came to similiar numbers, though, since I don't do the skill myself, I'm unable to determine how reasonable these calculations are. I had rather talked to a high lvl constructor about these calculations to determine how reasonable they are, before publishing them, but I guess other people figured it out as well by now (although I'm pretty sure you did this after I told you I did various calculations already which were pointing to deflation, which I think you should have mentioned, Furious F ;)). Nevertheless, if I would make a quick rough guesstimate at the total gp ingame right now I would say that's going to be somewhere around 1300bil (~270 days passed since my previous gp calculation and the rough gp growth / day was about 2bil then, estimating it at around 3bil+ now). Either way, with a gp creation of 3bil+ / day, and the calculations roughly looking like a 6bil+ / day drain, we may currently be experiencing some heavy deflation (money decrease) instead of inflation. Furthermore, if construction stays fairly popular in the future, this may continue to stay this way. Obviously (given that the calculations are reasonable) this is extremely negative for the price development of rares, from short-,mid- to long-term. The high inflation rate in the game was the most important factor that fueled upgoing rare prices. Furthermore, deflation is desastrous for rares prices and, if construction stays popular enough, halving rares prices as predicted by Nathaninch (who, I keep my stance, provided too little real arguing for his predictions when he created that topic) may not be as unreasonable as they sounded. IF we really enter a period of deflation, then something I pretty much predicted for myself a long time ago is indeed going to happen: Jagex finally decides to do something against the inflation problem, but they take it way too far. Deflation is NOT the answer on inflation and is extremely bad for any economy.

JAGeX has cunningly shred the economy
I sense a different motive behind this post.

Disarming some comments against f2pers who want an update
People are allowed to complain about free services that they use just as much as on paying services. People can complain for free services, if it is within reason. Complains like "why does P2P got more then F2P - that's not fair!!!" are plain ridiculous. Just like complaints of "why isn't construction F2P???", "why doesn't F2P got any dragon items", etc etc. People creating such rants are not being reasonable at all. Furthermore, what I think most people/P2P'ers have a problem with is the demand-like way in which many F2P players "ask" for updates. Actually, they don't really "ask" for it. They demand it or say they "deserve" it. But F2P has no right to demand anything. F2P has the right to politely ask for an update (within reason) and has a right to complain about bugs and inconvenient issues with the gameplay (if there are any).

Construction has to be...
Oooh.. Interesting info ^^. That sure costs a lot of money.

OMG Rares, an explanation not be heeded
I don't get why anti-rares people always create "do not buy rares" topics at the weirdest times... Namely, when the prices of rares didn't go up for 2 months already and are now (naturally) finally increasing again. Furthermore, rares were already increasing slightly again before my ban, so if anything, it only speedened the process a bit.

Will rares ever end?
In theory, it's possible. In practice, I doubt RuneScape will be around for long enough to see that happen, as it will still take a long time..

Tip.It Times Presents: Summer 2006
Although my opinion was not asked here, I'll take the liberty to say I'm ok with it, though I think the part that says "Once famed, now Shamed" is trying to put words and thoughts into people minds that do not necessarily exist and thus shouldn't have been said. Furthermore, since the story doesn't seem to have ended yet, Jagex broke my privacy rights and apparently break their own confidentiality rules by leaking out what I said to them in the appeals I sent to them to other "normal" player(s?) who are even in the position of being a forum mod for Jagex. The irony in this is even worse, considering Jagex 'accused' me of "possibly abusing my player moderator position" in their reply on the appeal, for which they have absolutely no evidence and won't ever find any evidence. Therefore I think this article is far too positive about Jagex actions - apparently Jagex themself don't mind breaking rules either?

Let's clarify a few things :) - Mea culpa!
Ah yes, ofcourse I remember you (actually you'd deserve a place in the named list as well :P). Yeah, you were doing very good as one of the few legit merchants as well :).

Let's clarify a few things :) - Mea culpa!
Ah I can live with that thought. :P Still taking proud in that, mot that many of the merchants can say that. ;)

Let's clarify a few things :) - Mea culpa!
As most of you know by now, I've been permanently banned from RuneScape as of the third of may. The reason of it is because I have broken rule 12: Real World Item Trading. The permanent ban is there to stay. In two days I'll be turning 19. Anyway, the reason why I did it is because I'm university student doing two studies. The real life selling of runescape gp's was a nice option for me to afford my expenses somewhat. Furthermore, I was merely a "peon" in the whole real life trading scheme (despite my richness) and no I'm not responsible for any of the real life trading adds here on tip.it nor did I sell directly on ebay. Ironically I had actually stopped with the selling 1.5 month ago and didn't do any trades since then anymore. Apparently it was already too late and inevitable though - Jagex probably already had the plans to ban me, or it may have happened because they caught my main buyer. I want to stress that the real life trading rule is the only rule I ever broke in runescape. All my gp's were made fully legally by merchanting and investing in rares. Whether this will change your opinion about me is something everyone will have to decide for himself. According to Jagex' news item of 3 may (coincidence or what?) I belong in the group of "dishonest" players :?. Their advice to stop breaking the rules now seems a bit hilarious to me, since that's what I did 1.5 month ago already and it apparently made no difference. But I know what I did and Jagex knows what I did. The only sad part is that I actually stopped doing it already, but I guess that doesn't really matter anymore. In the end, I consciously took the risk and now I have to face it. I guess it's now the time to say a few thank you's now :). Firstly, I want to thank the tip.it staff for the fun time on the team. It was great to have worked with you guys and you're all nice people. I'm sorry it has to end like this, but it really makes no difference in my respect for you guys. You didn't had an other choice then to remove me from the team. Keep up the great work. :) Secondly, since I have been a pmod for about half a year as well, I want to wish good luck to the whole pmod team plus the Jagex staff directing the pmods. Most of you are doing one hell of a job as well, and I feel the community is really appreciating it too little. Furthermore I want to thank tfe2, ajl221893 (also called ajl :P or Adam007 on here), blackrazor, darkzlayer, andyawz, furious f, thehate, killwarrior, thenext88, unleash1, lasallite2, gavin 05, bacon2003, uwillbeowned, soccastar, me poulin, dr nuck, sliceman, fighter ss4, skeletorus09, dnt mess and nubstyle for the great time they gave me in the game. There are tons more people I could name, but I really don't want to provide a ten-page list here :P. Don't feel saddened I didn't name you - you know who you are! :) I'll see if I can find a bank pic, but anyway, to prevent people from going to speculate ridiculous stuff about what I owned in rs, I'll just post it here. At the time of the ban I owned 200 santa hats, 200 pumpkins, 20 mask sets, 1 phat set, 3 half wines, 450mil pure gp and a bunch of other rares. Total value of about ~4bil I think. I'm not sure what I'll do now. I'll probably continue to publish articles every now and then like I used to do, even though this happened. For the rest I just don't know yet. ~Duke Freedom ~The True Master Merchant ~Permanently Banned

Estimates at the probable amount of people in RS
 It's not like I know everything about everything. :P Things like these are pretty much just guesswork. ;) Though if I assume *this is pretty accurate which it seems to be, and that, on average, there are 100K players online (don't know how reasonable that is, haven't played for quite a while)... Then 100*24*7/21 = 800K individual players. * = It says that the average mmorpg player spends 21 hours a week on the game - by the way, the whole site provides interesting data on mmorpg's in general, in case anyone got too much time on their hands to read a lot. :P

Solution for combatting autoers - Reasoning random events
We've talked about this already but I'll post my thoughts on this here as well.. All those different items, their properties and the questions would have to be hardcoded by Jagex. This means a ton of work for them. But even if there are a few thousands of items, the autoers will eventually know about all of them and know all their properties and thus they'll be able to answer all questions. Since there are 1000's of autoers versus only ~70 Jagex staff, I think it'll be way too much work for Jagex to implement and update, while the autoers will be able to circumvent it eventually anyway (and perhaps quite quickly even).

H'ween Masks
It's just a matter of time again. All rares, from phats to masks to santa's to unwearables are trying to stabalize from the insane growth we recently saw in them. As the growth went a little too fast in a too short period, prices on most rares have dropped slightly by 5 - 10% over the last month. No need to worry about it, it was quite expected and we would have needed to worry if it didn't happen and prices continued their fast rise upwards. I'm currently too inactive ingame to do any predictions on when we can expect rares to go up a bit again. Ian - I've never really seen easters nor pumpkins care much about holiday time. They don't seem (at least not specifically) to go up around those days. (just struck my mind that I didn't even do the easters event this year - totally forgot it )

Tip.It Times Presents: Pure Essence, Pure Disaster?
Yup, but like I said in various of these threads by now, I don't see this whole update do much about the autoing problem. The autoers will either become p2p or automate something differently. The current update may not even change anything about the amount of rune essence autoers. Perhaps the autoers don't even care that much about it, as it's probably still worthwhile for them, even now the prices of normal essence are worth only a third of what it used to be. Jagex shouldn't fight their war against autoing IN their game - which they are doing now. The autoers have shown to be inventive with circumventing anti-autoing adjustements and seem to have little problems with them.

Level = Maturity? Level = Age?
I've spoken to kids of 10-12 years old who were a lot more mature and polite then some other guys of 20+ I spoke to... It are all just extreme generalizations, which "on average" might be true, but are useless to use as a "rule". Yes, kids are more likely to be impatient (thus less likely to get a high leveled character) then older people. Yes they are generally less mature. But that definately doesn't make it true in all cases, as there are tons of exceptions.

BRILLIANT SOLUTION for the ESSENCE-situation
This "solution" actually says.. "Let's just go back the old situation where we only have one type of rune essence". Because the autoers will be able to sell the normal essence for roughly the same price as before to normal players again, and you can't ban the normal players for transforming the normal essence into the pure essence...
-
Essence update may not be all bad...
Yup, low level nature runecrafting is more interesting then mining the essence yourself up to a price of ~120gp ea for rune essence - providing the higher runes don't change in price. If the production of pure essence is a lot lower then the demand, this update may even create higher runes' prices though, and thus allow for an even higher rune essence price as well.

Essence Update and How it Will Cripple RS Economy
Ah it's not gonna stop anything this. It's pretty much just as futile as random events are. The only thing this will reach is relatively cheaper F2P ess (10-15gp ea?), relatively more expensive P2P ess (80+ gp ea) and some more money in Jagex' pockets because some of the autoers will join P2P.
