    Do You Run?

The best advice I can give is set yourself dates and times, then stick to them. If you only do it when you feel like it, it'll never get done. Make sure you feel out of breath and sweaty at the end of your session. If you don't, you aren't working hard enough. Running shoes/ good trainers are a must, converses wont be comfortable on your feet. I find Nike Airs to be comfortable but get a pair that don't squeak when you run - that nearly drove me insane. I run on a treadmill (does't count but running round here would probally end in morons chasing me and I don't fancy getting up early just so I can run in peace) for about 2 miles 3 times a week at a pretty intense level (for me ;) ).
  2. Listen to 3 Inches of Blood. Then you'll find it funny. I love 3 Inches of Blood, have seen them live and think that everything about them rocks. If you're looking for stuff thats heavy but at the same time melodic, I'd recommend some melodic Death Metal. Arch Enemy, In Flames, At the Gates. http://youtube.com/watch?v=i74tbtWWQCg http://youtube.com/watch?v=O1FkbvGl-IU Or Devildriver. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dPcnR3AewJ0&feature=related OT: I listen to a lot of metal, with some jazz, a bit of dance and quite a lot of pop thrown in. I don't own many non metal albums though. I play in an indie rock band but I never listen to that kind of music. I've heard a few wombat songs but all the 'indie' that I've wrote have basically been pop/ rock songs. From the 'indie' bands that I hear about (The Wombats, Kaiser Chiefs) that's all I assume indie to be. Same way the "emo" bands (MCR, Avenged Sevenfold etc) are really just pop/metal.
  3. Between the Buried and Me - Colours Slayer - Reign in Blood Metallica - MOP/ RTL Machine Head - The Blackening Opeth - Stil Life/ Black Water Park Judas Priest - Painkiller I don't own any brilliant non-metal albums unfortunately. When I get the money, I hope to expand my horizons a bit :)
  4. Strapping Young Lad - Never going to tour again due to Devin Townsend's retirement from touring :( . Death - Chuck Schuldiner died of cancer  Queen - I wish Freddy was back, although I don't know how they would top their previous material.
  5. My best mate is really into Jazz and has spent the last year trying to convert me  . I quite like some of Jaco Pastorious' work and his work with Weather Report. I love Pat Methany's guitar work and improvisations as well.
  6. Can't wait for this to come out on PC :( Probally going to be over a year and I'll need to update my software.
  7. Superhero Movie - It was basically a spiderman spoof. Some funny moments but it was the same toilet humour that you get from Scary movie. 7/10. Hannibal Lecture - [hide=]The scenes where those guys got eaten by pigs were brutal. I think this movie got the right mix between horror and supense for me, I normally don't watch horrors but this one gripped me. The bit where he hung the guy with his bowels hanging out was seriously nasty too.[/hide] 8/10. Can someone recommend similar movies to this? I've been wanting to see that :D Is it informative or funny?
  8. I cant say I know any screamo bands but for metal - Dream Theater, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Behemoth and Machine Head are all fairly accessible.

    Concerts

I love going to concerts, especially metal ones. Theres something about the atmosphere, a violence and energy which manifests itself in the crowd. I've been to some classic rock shows as well and although the band performed great and everyone was into it, I felt as though I was still a spectator rather than participating in an event. I was at a jazz show the other day and they played brilliant music, which made me feel very good; just not the same sheer exhillaration I feel after seeing Machine Head or Stone Sour (yeah not very heavy comparatively but they had the nuttiest crowd I've ever been in). First Gig - Wishbone Ash Second - Stone Sour Third - Battle of the Bands Final Fourth - Stone Sour Fifth - Wishbone Ash Sixth - Dream Theater & Symphony X Seventh - Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Trivium.
  10. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge :) It's a feel good song.
  11. Well it's been a massively busy year for me but I think I'll focus one one event. My first gig :D My band approached it in a way that we probally shouldn't have done and consequently everything was set up to go horribly wrong. We got the gig before we had a singer or a complete setlist to play, so we had two weeks to learn six songs, find a singer and get the songs to sounds decent. Well we found one pretty much instantly and had a day long practice session to get him into the way we worked and got him to work with the songs we were already doing. Then, there couldn't be a practice next weekend, so we arranged one for the night before. When we would play the four songs we needed to complete the setlist for the first time. That practice was a disaster. We all kept forgetting our parts, difficulties in playing them and nerves about the following night and a freezing practice room which caused my fingers to get stiff and painful. My drummer twisted/ sprained his wrist, not quite sure how and although he could still play, he was in a fair bit of pain. We left that practice feeling like the world would end at 8:30PM the next day. I remember the singer coming up to me during lunch and croaking "My voice is going", and my nerves going nuts. The fews hours before the gig, we found an empty room in the school to practice in. We had one run through the set which was poor, but better than the previous practice. We then got kicked out of the room at around 5ish, so we had three hours to kill. We spent the time kicking around backstage, I was running through the more difficult parts of the set. I had switched guitars the night before, as my Yamaha Pacifica was on its last legs and the pickup selector regularly failed to connect. So I was playing the gig on a band mates, dads, Fender Strat. It was brilliant to play on. :D The manager of the night came up to us and told us that we had 30 minutes, which was different from the 45 we had been promised. We decided to drop our original material and perhaps 'The Pretender' as we never did manage to play through it properly. The first act of the night got on and were awful, which made me feel miles better. The second was a solo artist, who played acoustic covers of songs. Then to close, he went and covered our opening act. This threw me a little bit and in the ten minutes of setting up gear, I was still a bit out of it. We chose to play the song anyway as it's the easiest in the set and playing it well would boost our confidence.(The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army). When I got on stage and played the first few chords, my confidence suddenly came back to me. The set was played almost perfectly, with the exception of our singer who struggled to hit some notes and keep his voice clean (twas not his fault, he genuinly had knackered his voice) and my problem of speeding up the riffs I was worried about (which never helps).
  12. If I did have one, it would be the demo version of Witches Sabbath by Emperor. It opens with a blood curdling scream and a wall of drive follows. I like to think of my friends opening it at 1AM with headphones on. :D
  13. If someone put a gun to my head and said 'Go to Church or die', I know that I'm not going to die. Likewise, if my death would get soft drugs legalised (which in my opinion they should), I wouldn't die because I wouldn't be around to enjoy it. However, if my Country was being threatened (as in by a real army rather than by some guerilla terrorists), I'd risk my life fighting to protect it. A lot of things I believe in, mainly free will as long as you don't affect others are already legal. Others such as Euthenasia and soft drugs (hard drugs are much more likely to affect others in my experiences) are not legal. I'm unsure about how to get them legalised and not devote my life to it but I know that dying isn't going to help. :P Make any sense?
  14. Had a listen to a few of his songs and the early stuff was positively oozing emotion. However, as a singer I can't stand him. All his music seemed very dark and dissonant as you said. The ballads I heard were ok, not anything special, his singing style was the major let down there.
  15. I own all three albums and my friend has sent me MateKillFeedRepeat. They do have some great songs and were the best Nu-Metal group in my opinion. I'm not massively into their music but I'm going to see them next year for their amazing live shows.
  16. A pair of battered old, paint covered, grey Nike Airs that I've had for the last five years. Most comfortable thing I own.
  17. I bought a new guitar today and I love it. PRS SE Singlecut in Tobacco Sunburst. :D I loved the way it looked but the way it sounded was great too. I thought I'd record a clip to demonstrate :o Clicky I'm playing mainly original stuff there, although I break out into a slipknot riff and improvised hitting wrong notes at one point  . The solo is supposed to go over the top of the chord progression but I couldn't be bothered redoing it.
  18. Is that experimental music? I think it's a joke, as although my music reading is poor at best, I think I see at least 256th notes in the top right hand corner and thats just silly.
  19. Ultimate Guitar My best friend as a guitarist. Loads of tabs, loads of lessons. The most useful one for me was thisAlternate Picking Lesson. Anyway, my advice would really depend on what your goals are as a guitarist, what genres you play etc. General places to start would be learning your chords, notes on the fretboard and alternate picking. If you want to a be virtuso, then you're going to need to practice for long hours every day, learn your musical theory in depth and use a metronome (Clicky). If you want to learn some simple songs to play, try starting out with learning to read tabs and play some Nirvana.

    Your worst day

When I was eleven, I got an ear infection and had to have the week off school. I was alone the day when something burst and puss was trickling out my ear. The pressure wasn't released though and I spent the entire day crying for it to be over and the pain to go away. I'd spent the entire week in really bad pain but that was the worst I've ever experienced. Being alone made it much worse as well.
  21. Well, I've never shown my face on these forums and I don't really want to start now, so here I am. :D
  22. I have had a couple of young students at my Karate Club call me 'mum' or 'Miss' before. #-o
  23. Devil Driver - Not All Who Wonder Are Lost :XD:
  24. Most martial arts clubs are sports based now-adays but if you search around, you can find traditional/ self-defense ones. Just don't turn up wearing a black belt if you've only ever done sport. :D
