High Tier Item Access
The name of the post is "High Tier Item Access" I think you're in the wrong thread mate. I think the confusion here is that it's a spin-off topic that discussed many different ones in the first place. Yes, fire cape like challenges are nice and all, but they can't just be left for dead afterwards. There are many ways of implementing challenges in the game, however, to be sustainable, they usually do need to offer monetary rewards. A challenge that is grindable doesn't diminish the challenge, in my opinion. Also, if your goal(or challenge) is to obtain the best gear, there need to be methods of obtaining wealth quickly by means of grinding.

Money has always been easy to make, but moaning about moneymaking has just been that much easier.

But is the average drop 250k? I'm pretty sure it's not. Over the ~300 kills i've done i've averaged more than 300k per. 16-20 kph is very reasonable(and that's with range).

It's funny to see people forget about all the skilling moneymakers to the point that they practically don't even exist in time anymore. I, for one, made my first fortunes from skills, not combat, as it was easier back in the day. In addition to rune mining, which was somewhat dangerous but could yeild high profits, runecrafting was and had been the one skill skillers could cling to to make a significant amount of money. Hunter never really was a very good moneymaker before grenwalls, and has always been botted heavily. As for how hard it is to obtain these expensive items, assuming you are any good at automatons/glacors/qbd, 3-5m an hour is easily achievable with monsterhunting topping out at around 10-15m an hour with duo KK/nex. These items aren't super hard to get like perhaps divine/ely used to or partyhats are, you just need to invest some time into it.

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Why exactly are we so pumped up about port score at this point? it'll still take atleast a month before anyone can max it and you can get the update at that point(assuming you want it..). I assume some are worried about having this thing in the hiscores.

I think jagex made the decision for us that skills are only to support otherwise combat based activities. I'd have nothing against skilling becoming an alternative to monster hunting, but i just can't see such a radical shift in jagex thinking.

First chaotic?
I'm guessing it's the average(or rather 2 components claw and 1 component EE), however it's hard to test and i'm yet to do that. That said, considering it's a minimum of ~t77 accuracy, it would still be better than any dual chaotic for anything but QBD+, and then you can just get dual claws.

Challenges like jad are very nice, but it's really only a one time ticket. I really can't understand why monster hunting can't be the fundamental source of wealth in scape as it has been for a while- it is a great way to introduce new items, is always challenging and can be updated to be ''handed down'' to lower levels. You also don't need to kill the bosses for those specific desired items, instead having a choice between many different ones of varying profitability, difficulty and consistency of loot. Now all we have to do is accept jagex has made this game combat and primarily monster hunting based. And yes, ports armor is a great example of how they can release future content, but really only as an addition to monster hunting.

Black Dragons
I don't think onyx bolts really have any use beyond alching. Firstly, royal bolts are identical for damage when considering abilities and secondly, only auto-attacks activate bolt specials. Couple that with the fact that you really won't be doing many auto-attacks(i average around 5 per QBD kill), they just aren't worth it under any circumstance. Basically the same applies for dragon.

As of EoC, nothing really requires skills beyond equipment requirements to be effective. The difference between 1 and 99 strength for someone using a chaotic maul is less than 5% DPS. Nex gear is easily replaced by void and barrows/ports armor. It's only really weapons that make a difference nowadays, and particularly drygores at that, but jagex made those quite easily accessible(high droprates and 3 drops). Most of the problems really arise from jagex updating their game at a very slow pace.

Yoko, most of what you talk about is all well and good, but it's all in theory. The exact reason we need these high-priced novelty items is that theory and reality just don't match up. Ofcouce it would have been nice if every tier equipment was released together(kind of like dungeoneering). Ofcource it would be nice if the experience rates for skills would have stayed the same throughout the years. Ofcource it would be nice if combat wasn't the only so-called legitimate way to make alot of money. But the fact of the matter is, this game would have died a long time ago if all that were true, and i'm sure jagex realized that a long time ago, too. Thus, today, we have an imperfect system where requirements mean nothing and combat is the only real skill in the game. And we need rare equipment as a result. Yes, there are examples of equipment easily available for their respective levels, but, for the most part they involve quests or have been second rate for a long time. Most if not all high tier combat drops have not matched their requirements to wear, and i'm sure this trend will continue. It's true that some of these items have been a significant upgrade, but considering that the best way to obtain them is to fight that respective boss, it is fairly balanced.

First chaotic?
I think it really depends on how rich you are and what style you use the most. Assuming you can't afford drygores or virt wand but want to use all combat styles equally, i'd say the be the best order would be: Chaotic claw(used with EEE) Chaotic staff Main and off-hand Chaotic crossbow Chaotic maul

High Tier Item Access
It still amazes me to see people moan about expensive items and see them say that they are only accessible to people using ''illegitimate'' ways of moneymaking. Guess what, it's just an idiotic excuse to say that you aren't willing to put your back into it and work for something you claim is desirable. As for specific level content being usable at that level, you can show me all the rare examples you wish, but lets be honest, as they were designed and after release, none of the high tier equipment is designed to be used by the tier that they require, and for the most part, are only used by the higher echelon of players. The only way this can be ''fixed'' is by having everything sold in shops, which already redundant content usually will be. Many of these high tier items we are talking about offer truly negligible boosts already, and are, realistically, useful only for content that is required for ''legitimately'' obtaining them in the first place. These gloves, for example, are little more than cosmetic piece of content. Also, comparing this to real life(which i know is a really stupid thing to do), i don't think anyone who is able to pass their driving test should easily be able to ''obtain'' a ferrari. Sure, there might be rare examples, but as a whole, you'd have to work hard for it, and it wouldn't really offer you much of a ''boost'' over a BMW or even public transport.

High Tier Item Access
It should be available to people whom it is intended for if such people have put a reasonable effort into it (by that I mean level 70 armour is for people with 70's in stats, and level 80 armour is for people with level 80's in stats and so on). That is how RS initially was and it remained that way for most of its existence. Now we have this bizarre trend where skills cannot actually generate wealth for players, and the best gear is restricted to a few parasitic players who stand around merching/staking/gambling. Being a reasonable challenge should not entail being ridiculously hard and requiring hundreds of hours to obtain a few items. It's ridiculous that someone with Maxed Skills, and Maxed Defense can only afford level 70 armour. It's a fundamental contradiction of the game that skills (you know the actual content designed to make you progress in the game) is disconnected from the process of wealth creation. I don't agree with any of this at all. Firstly, as the updating progression has always been extremely slow, it's idiotic to think that a certain level should warrant that level armor. Rs has never had that correlation and probably never will- it's always been about effort and wealth, and with reasonable effort highest level armor has always been obtainable for highest level players. Now, i understand that it's frustrating having all skills made super easy and people feeling entitled because they put in a tenth of the effort some oldschool player would have for the same result, but because of it, levels don't actually mean anything nowadays. It's all about knowledge of the game and how effective you are using that knowledge, as well as the effort you put into achieving specific goals.

4th March - The World Wakes
The point is that highest level gear shouldn't be available to everyone, thus making it challenging to obtain it. This game really needs more challenges(think fire cape when it was first released).

4th March - The World Wakes
You were complaining that you didn't want things to become easier. This wouldn't change the actual drop rate of the gloves, I do not see the problem. This would make it easier to obtain the gloves.

I had no idea that we were still playing 07Scape. I had no idea jagex could have seen the error of their way...

4th March - The World Wakes
More and more consistent profit= more people killing= less rare. I understand if they did this 5 years down the road when these gloves will be second rate, but right now, it's good to have some new, king of the hill rare drops.
-
4th March - The World Wakes
The problem is there are already enough steady income monsters to hunt, and not enough truly rare and hard-to-get pieces as a result. In rsc and at the start of rs2 bosses used to only have one specific rare drop and thus those items were highly sought after and expensive. Nowadays, most bosses we have drop a multitude of special drops that are relatively common, causing them to crash right after the rush dies down. Demoralising or not, if you want items to be rare and coveted, this is the way to go(and i still vividly remember my FFA divine, but my nex stuff? don't remember any of them).
-
4th March - The World Wakes
That would still defeat the point of having a single rare drop. It's also another reason why people prefer 07 scape- they enjoy having the challenge. Making things easier also devalues the achievement of it. There are already enough easy things in the game, why can't getting these gloves stay 'hard'(about the droprate, it's likely 1/1536 per glove or 3x that of abyssal whip/sol/dark bow). However, i do agree that the purely cosmetic pet should be less rare, perhaps 1/200 or so.
-
4th March - The World Wakes
Yeah, keep those down-gray-ing ideas coming, people clearly want everything to be fluffy and easy, just ask those 07' folks. Just stop it. If something is rare and hard to get, guess what, grow a pair or just go QBD.

If you say H/c x2 in game you will be muted. (Taken from Reddit)
I kind-of didn't believe this so ofcource, i had to test it out, but in a safe environment- that being inside ports. and sure enough... Come on jagex... you are pathetic. never been muted either... On the topic at hand, i support the cause but not the method. Just remove anything that has chance and voila, no gambing. Muting people for encouraging the black marketeer and shurula to gamble is... yeah.

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
That is.... hilarious. However, that really begs the question, why wouldn't you do it the other way around? Great thinking, jagex... edit: ah, forgot about the damage cap. Still, i guess they now have to add a healing cap.

Possible to afk train/slay?
Unless you tag cannoned npc's, you don't get credit for the kill. Kind-of makes it actually less afk. And yeah, as many have eluded to, afking slayer is now basically dead.

QBD Guide
Mage is, in general, the worst style to use there so for moneymaking, i wouldn't really suggest it. Also, one consideration here is that the drops have dropped dramatically, so you only make around 200k per kill nowadays, so getting only 6-8 kills an hour really isn't acceptable anymore(where as it used to be good enough to make 2-3m before).
