Summoning too hard to level?
*disclaimer* I suck at math's so I could quite well of gone horribly wrong trying to work this out, and it is kinda late so my brain is fried, so feel free to correct me if i've made mistakes, but please be gentle* I finally understand why shards are so pricey (considering how many you need) and why charms are untradeable. If you get blue charms, do not use them, keep a huge bulk if you can, you'll want to keep those handy for the later levels in summoning. At Level 25 you can summon Spirit Kalphites (requiring Potato Cactus) At 36, 46, 56, 66, 76 and 86 you can summon the various metal Minotaurs (at a cost of the specific bar of metal per pouch). These creatures offer the most experience per pouch (albeit a large bulk of shards or costly resources are needed), if you had enough blue charms to last for an hour, having a trip from C/W to Taverly via Balloon service, each trip taking 4 mintues each and only making 20 pouches per trip you'd get this type of experience: 25 - 66k exp per hour (that's almost like getting a stat in the early 70's to level up per hour!) 36 - 95k exp per hour 46 - 121k exp per hour (at a cost of an iron bar for each pouch you are now getting more exp per hour than at Red Chinchompas, sadly it's not free) 56 - 147k exp per hour (steel bars) 66 - 174k exp per hour (mithril bars, now it's getting steep) 76 - 200k exp per hour (addy bars, pretty darn steep) 86 - 227k exp per hour (rune bars, stupid price, but atleast you only need ONE shard!!) If you were stupidly rich and if charms were tradeable you could comfortably go storming through the levels of summoning thanks to the G.E. I think im going to keep all my blue charms until I reach level 46 summoning, then I can get quite big chunks of experience for each little trip. *disclaimer* I suck at math's so I could quite well of gone horribly wrong trying to work this out, and it is kinda late so my brain is fried, so feel free to correct me if i've made mistakes, but please be gentle* Anyway, this is just to show people why Jagex have probably set the experience, prices and drop rates of all things related to summoning. Thinking about this has helped me to calm down and now im going to slay away collecting shards and look forward to training summoning decently possibly sometime next month.

Post your training methods here
That's a good plan! Once you hit level 46 Summoning and can make Iron Minotaurs it will become very speedy exp, as long as you have the charms and shards you could easily get 10k exp per 3-5 mins. Now im starting to figure out why the charms are so hard to get and so many shards are needed.

15 January 2008 - Summoning!
Armours and weapons now give a summoning bonus but what the heck is that bonus actually used for? Im taking a wild guess that it's the defence we have against a summoned monster attacking us, and if that's the case then lol, we won't have very many encounters of that, especially encounters that could actually be dangerous. :XD:

Summoning yes, but not like this.
I think most of us don't really want to power level to 99, we just want it to be reasonable. - Spending over 200m - Killing over 600k monsters - Repetitive walking from a bank to an obelisk, tele-ing, rinse and repeat for like 21,000 trips (random number pulled from my behind) Maybe if those were just a standalone thing it would be reasonable, but you have to do all three in order to get a level 99. - Your raising a skill that's marginally faster that prayer if you collected your own bones (heck it may even be slower). - Your raising a skill that has the most boring and tedious part of construction - plank making (but without a spell that can make it easier) - You are also having to pay out to level, you have no choice of doing it for free. What's worse is this is called summoning yet all the experience your gaining is from making mass pouches. Your making more pouches then you'd probably ever need of a summoning and there's no point in summoning the creature because it provides little benefit other than looking nice by your side for a few mins. We should be getting experience for actually summoning, not for being able to walk from a to b and make x then repeat with absolutely no benefit.

Charm droppers
Quick find code for the RS forums - 15-16-992-55383206 I want to love this skill, I really do, but I can't. You raise the skill by making pouches...that's about it, yes, you can get exp using specials and such, but why waste the time when you only get 1 exp or even less than 1!! Jagex should of made summoning drain exactly like prayer and also add along with it gaining experience for using the summon in combat or aiding you, that way you get experience for summoning rather than by being a good collector of charms and walking backwards and forwards all day, whilst the limitation of the draining will stop people gaining experience way too quickly and making the skill very easy to master. It's hard, it's expensive, and that's ok, I can cope with that, but it's also a complete waste of time! Slayer is long and hard, but it's worthwhile! Runecrafting is long and hard, but that's worthwhile too!! Summoning, you can finally have a pet dragon!!! Just gonna cost you over 200m and about 2 years of your life killing over 600k monsters, oh and then you gotta get the egg too. I think i'll collect charms and not touch this skill until the next batch comes out, who knows it may become good then.

Summoning yes, but not like this.
Summoning IS a non buyable, wich costs 210 million gp, to get like what, 5k xp an hour. Once you get 99 summoning after 2 months of extreme nolifing 24/7 ( If you are still alive ) , you get an awesome ability to summon a monster wich hits... With the joy of having to collect our own charms I think it will take longer than 2 months. I'll take a stab and say we need 50,000 charms minimum for level 99? 50,000 monsters to kill, and that's also assuming they drop the correct charm. This is going to be one heck of a challenging skill to raise, I hope Jagex makes it possible to make these charms in a future quest or something because at the moment the thought of it makes me shudder. Atleast it gives more incentive to do slayer, you can probably pick up about 70 or so charms on a good trip along with combat and slayer experience.

Summoning - How Are You Preparing?
I collected 5 vulture eggs and 5 karamthulhu last night. Today I tried woodcutting for eggs today but I got bored at 74 woodcutting. Im now killing Druids for their robes, im assuming they will get a graphical update and could possibly boost summoning like robes boost prayer.

New Summoning advert on Runescape.com
It still says it in English. Unless Beschworung is an English word, it's in German. That's odd the entire advert was still in English for me. [hide][/hide]

100% Official Summoning Hiscores
If it's not today then Im going to say it'll be this week atleast, there's been a lot of log in maintenance over the past 2 days, longer than what it normally takes, some pictures have been removed of Taverly and now this. I think there's going to be a huge overhaul on a lot of game content with this skill.
-
100% Official Summoning Hiscores
There's already 40,269 people in the high scores, including people who don't have level 30 in the skill (even people with ZERO experience). At the moment, all I can say is lol.

Nice, when I got that yesterday I went and used 10k waters with the tiara. Boy was I surprised when they all disappeared :? If you destroy the tiara you'll get all your water runes back and your original water tiara too!

Before the Grand Exchange, if I added up the value of all my items and cash, I was worth 60m. The Grand Exchange was introduced and I suddenly found myself losing 17m because I sold stuff for low, bought new stuff for high, not liking it, selling for low and buying other stuff. I lost a good chunk of money, knocking my worth down to 43m. Over the past 2 weeks I've been checking trends and buying. And today I have sold everything: (12m profit) That's 55.1m there. All I have now is full rune and a whip  Im going to sit on my money for a few months and just try to add more to it :)

I made my noob account - Jon Fierce when there was the smith all glitch for tutorial island. Got to 18 smithing and thought i'd never bother with the guy ever again: It's lovely doing stuff I haven't done for like 5 years, and im looking forward to actually using some content that is good but wasn't available when I first started. :) I'll make him a member one day, and perhaps a summoner pure?

May I ask what's it's used for? The tiara? If you have it on, you don't need water in the desert. You make it, by using water runes on a water tiara. WARNING: If you use a lot of water runes on the tiara, it uses ALL of them on it *chuckles at Dan who found out the hardway* 12k water runes into 1 tiara lol Destroying the tiara returns your water runes and the original water tiara :) No warning needed :)

Maybe they are trying to forget about RSC.

2 January 2008 - Behind the Scenes - January
I think something like that would take longer than a month to implement, bug test and amongst everything else they have to do. Im looking forward to this month, we'll finally have more than 250 Quest Points which I believe could result in a new guild later this year. A sequel to Contact, looks like I may dust off my Keris and see where it takes me! I have no idea what that mudpack entails, we'll have to wait and see. Lots of stuff for summoning, so it's certainly going to keep us interested for a long long while, not to mention a new dungeon! And finally Isafdar get's an update that makes it more worthwhile going there, not to mention that update involves Hunter!! I may get a bit more experience in the skill and start rising in the ranks of it again. Who knows, if famaliars can be tradeable, this could be quite profitable. :D It's like Jagex said, it's a mixed month! Really looking forward to it! *edit* And how can I forget we are seeing a graphical update for Taverly! Im actually begining to think that it could possibly be made f2p, but we'll have to wait and see what this summoning quest entails before I speculate any further on that.
