Question about Range slaying weapons.
You know i'm actually thinking the same thing. When did RS turn into a grindfest? :\ Wait, doing more damage faster is the grindfest? I'd think the grindfest would be sitting around with inferior weapons wasting time (and, effectively, money) because of some misguided notion of frugality.

Question about Range slaying weapons.
You really ought to be making enough money from the tasks to pay for even the most expensive ammo, so it's odd to me that you claim you can't afford it.

Chaotic Staff/C-bow/Sheild or Farseer next?
no, you don't. it's a ranged attack, but you don't know what it's based on if you call rsw an unreliable source of info, then you should take a look at yourself You sound like you've never been to Bandos.

Ardy 3 or SW cape?
I use ardy cloak for tasks that have some degree of defense, like irons, steels, miths, abbys, and the like. For stuff with essentially 0 defense like black demons, bloodveld, blue dragons, gargoyles, dust devils, etc. etc., attack bonus doesn't matter much at all, so I use sw.

Smoking traps
Yeah, it depends on what you're hunting. It doesn't seem to help a lot with stuff like sallys and chins, but it makes something of a difference with pawya and grenwalls and a pretty huge difference with jadinkos. General rule of thumb- if you fail catching them enough to be annoyed by it, scentless pots will probably help.

Future Update Discussions
I didn't even think of that! That would be sweet, I've always wondered what style monsters use.

Dk's.
Well, since you pray against mage and only tank a tiny bit of melee if you mess up luring, ranged defense is literally the only defense type that matters. Normally you'd be right in recommending the BSS though.

Oh noes, Maeror has a question!
Yes, you should get a unicorn for TDs. Can't give much input on current best barraging setups- I got my 99 summon a loooong time ago.

If we has a deflector or get can one, replacing his void top with dhide top would even things out a lot. LRC monsters have relatively low defence anyway and the +10% accuracy and +20% damage is well worth it. We're only talking a difference of 5% damage- slayer helm gives 15% and leaves all your other slots free.

I'd still use a slayer helm with ranged gear- the ranged bonus lost from lack of top, bottom, and gloves is extremely significant.

Okay Efficiency Police..have a q about Herb
Fix'd. Herblore is expensive and the SoC helps, regardless of level. It takes such a small amount of time to get and lasts forever, there's absolutely no excuse to wait. Same deal with scroll of life if you ever farm.

Chaotic Staff/C-bow/Sheild or Farseer next?
No need, it's been tested to death. I can't believe we're still having this conversation this many years after GWD was released. I could see it if the boss was a few weeks old, but we've known for a LONG time now that ranged defense is what matters at Bandos.
-
Chaotic Staff/C-bow/Sheild or Farseer next?
I can assure you this is false. Citation: go tank Bandos in full arma and a spectral and see how well you do tanking his ranged attacks. I was just there in a team tonight with void and took some good knocks while I was soul splitting, and void has pretty excellent magic defense. I was certainly taking a lot more damage from the ranged attacks than our full Bandos tank, who by your logic should have been getting ripped apart. On topic, I say crossbow. Nothing else is a significant improvement over existing gear- the staff is stupid expensive to use, and the shields are wannabe DFS and spirit shields.

Herblore gp / xp
I don't get it. You say you already know about Grimy's spreadsheet, which will precisely answer your question, and then you go on as though it wouldn't?

Chaotic Rapier vs Longsword
Fix'd Oh, and how does Dragon defender affect things? Does is make Rapier superior to Chaotic Longsword now? Rapier was always better then cls when wearing a rune defender I'm pretty sure, so dragon defender just widens that gap. CLS is still only good for a couple very high defense situations in which you have to wear a shield rather than a defender.

Ahrims vs Battle Robes
If you hate FoG, I'd definitely just switch to Ahrims. Making cash for runes shouldn't be too difficult, especially once you get yourself a pack yak. There's a certain cash range where using battle robes is possibly slightly better, efficiency-wise, than Ahrim's, but the FoG is way more annoying than just getting the cash for the extra runes, and thus might discourage you from training at all. Sounds like you're there.

Getting 91 Herblore
Umm, okay. But I'm more interested in an answer to the questions I asked in the OP. My answer heavily implies selling things that can't be used in untradable potions, buying/keeping things that can, and making those.
-
Getting 91 Herblore
You should be making extreme potions in preparation for when you can make overloads and for general use. No tradable potion should be made now that you can make untradable potions.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
400-500m assuming the soaking update is insignificant enough to do absolutely nothing to armor prices in the long run (which I'm pretty sure it will be).

Okay Efficiency Police..have a q about Herb
Also, assuming you use overloads and extreme potions regularly (even if you don't think you will at the time, you almost certainly will down the line), making overload ingredients for training is infinitely better than making tradable potions. Otherwise, if you keep playing, you WILL come to a point where you realize that you need to make more overloads or special restores or super prayers or super antifires and have 99 herblore already. At that point, everything tradable that you made after you could make untradable potions becomes a 100% waste of money.

Ranged and TDs
Rune bolts with rune or chaotic crossbow are my personal favorite. Great damage, moderate speed, not too expensive. Not too hard to soulsplit flash with. Another popular option is the handcannon, though I find it to be inferior to rune bolts. It's nice because it's slower, so easier to switch and soulsplit with, but it has the significant drawback of sometimes blowing up. Karil's crossbow is also extremely good, but has the drawback of not working so well with soulsplit flashing because it's SO fast. It tears off melee protect like nothing because of its high speed though. Those are the main ones I've seen there.

Okay Efficiency Police..have a q about Herb
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tix0mH-83pgzsARJj6D9vvA&output=html That spreadsheet gives you up to date gp/exp and exp/hour on all herblore training methods. The only way to train herblore that's remotely sensible is to choose a potion with a good balance of cost and speed for you, and train herblore exclusively that way. Making whatever potion you end up needing is extremely likely to waste your time and money for NO benefit at all. Save your cash by buying potions as you need them, and put that money instead toward a method worth doing.
