Hello From Earth
It's definitely not hard, seeing as we already have the technology. The only efforts that need to be made are around the effect of turning a machine on, aiming it at precise co-ordinates and feeding it a message. Nobody in the right mind would think that this is going to result in a message back, you aren't enlightening anyone. All you're doing is throwing out baseless numbers and statements.

Hello From Earth
? I have a feeling you're patronizing, but I don't really understand what you mean. It doesn't cost anything for the BBC world service to actually turn on their transmission machines. It's not like you have to rent out the airspace. Just think about it. There is a radio transmitter in Australia that has the ability to shoot radio signals into space. Turning it on and feeding it a message can't cost much.

The Running Thread
:P First day of cross country was fun, I love running in the mornings. Its gonna suck having practice after school though :| Yep, my late practices start tomorrow, even though my school doesn't start for a couple weeks. Not looking forward to the heat, but at least I can stay up late.

Hello From Earth
If you knew what he meant then why ask a question that misconstrues his argument? Does sending radio waves really sound that costly? It can't cost too much.

Hello From Earth
if we used this logic we'd still be living in caves. so if we never attempted to communicate with different life forms millions of miles away, we'd be living in caves? i've never tried that, and i don't live in a cave, am i the only one? If we have the technology, and it's easy as hell to utilize and has no repercussions, then why not try something that has even the most minute chance of a positive result. Also, don't just presume that everything in space takes thousands/millions/billions of years. Our radio frequency is only going to take around 20 years to arrive. If they send one back, we should be receiving it sometime mid 21st century. And Str0wez doesn't literally mean that we don't live in caves because we send inter-planetary messages. :wall: He means that if we had no incentive to try something that will probably result in failure, technology wouldn't exist (or something along those lines).

Hello From Earth
They aren't going to be able to decode it, unless of course they have some strange, inconceivable technology. But if they do have the ability to receive it at all, that would most likely be a huge deal for them, and they would probably send some beeps and whistles our way. But then again, I'd say there is at most a 1 in 10 million chance that "they" actually exist, let alone have the technology to receive radio signals.

Hello From Earth
Send a bottle into the cosmic ocean! Basically, they are going to send binary radio signals on August 24th from an Australian deep space communications center to Gliese 581D, a planet roughly 20 light years away that has a possible potential for life. Send a message: http://www.hellofromearth.net/

Cigarettes
FALSE. Vegetarians, people who don't have sex or get intoxicated, and non-smokers all live forever. The only method of death is decapitation by silver blade! Oi, fill your lungs men! Feel superiority in your deep breaths. Exhale with contempt at any smoker-sucker you spot. Tread on their vapid, tar-filled heads, filled with false righteousness. Oh, and necks shall be broken, the necks of these suicidal inferiors! They shall die with smokestick in hand, remembering regrets of addiction. Their deaths amusing. A seemingly similar creature, dying like flies from self-loathing habits. If you wish to prevail to the end of time my friend, remove the evil from your fingers, lips, and lungs. We are gods!

Burn more calories? My step-father eats the worst of anyone I've ever seen, and he still maintains a decent weight through heavy exercise.

what do you think will happen in 2012?
Agreed. On topic: This whole 2012 thing reminds me of a story my mom told me about her childhood. Supposedly when she was around 10 years old her mom told her that the world was going to end, and when the day came (don't remember exact date, but it was some religious apocalypse thing), my mom went on the front porch and cried for hours and finally, in her little 10 year old way, accepted her fate of death. When the day ended, and nothing happened, she had essentially had her first near-death experience. I suppose that experience her made her into the anti-bs kind of person she is today. Meanwhile, my grandma is stocking her shelves with hundreds of pounds of apocalypse rations.

what do you think will happen in 2012?
Zilch. Statistically speaking, it would be insane to think otherwise.

Food.
I looked it up and they contain a little under 1mg of phenylalanine per drop, and there are 26 drops in this bag. I then looked up phenylalanine tablets, and the smallest ones I found on Google were 375mg. I doubt ~26mg of phenylalanine will do anything to me, anyways it's just an animo acid, nothing like some of the harsh active ingredients you would find in actual laxative supplements.

Abortion what do you think of it?
Stop trying to look cool nerd! Oh, and if having an abortion is available to someone, they shouldn't have to live in abstinence just because of the "what if". Living in fear is never good.
