Playing sports increases your social life and muscle volume. RuneScape just hurts your eyes and gives you cramps. You can simplify anything in a negative way... Sports is just moving muscles. Runescape is just clicking. Photography is just clicking a button. Maths is just thinking. Being a singer is just blowing air through your windpipes. Being alive is just moving your lungs (and even that is done for you). Being a monkey is just pwnage. \ :XD: Anyone can put a negative spin on anything. But why bother when you an put a positive spin on it?

Curing the Disease by Killing the Patient

well it is a thought but Jagex would not be guarenteed that the player would join their new game, especially with their frustration at Jagex for ruining RS, they would join other games more likely. -
Curing the Disease by Killing the Patient
monkeyboo2 replied to qeltar's topic in General Discussion
Okay, first of all, we are not giving the company crap, we may just be trying to help them, as i'm sure advising them to make the right social and financial decisions will benefit both Jagex and their customers. We may come across as brutal, but we are trying to help jagex make a better game; and a better game means more profits and kudos for them. Secondly, money is does come into it when banning members. for example if a member is known to be scamming, and he scams 5 people. If 3 of them quit because of it he has lost jagex more money than them just banning him after the first scam. Despite whatever may be said, they are businessmen and they make decisions which make their pockets heavier whether it be banning unprofitable players (rulebreakers) or making the game better. Third, it does effect you... Lets assume you hunt, and you go to the red chins today to find all the duellers have had to find other ways of making money, stealing all your chins. Lets assume you mine and the rune rocks are full of ex-duellers moaning abonut the update and taking all your rocks. They have to find something else profitable to do. Lets assume the duellers/other players quit, meaning alot less ppl on worlds, meaning less people to talk to, and slower respawn times. Lets assume you runecraft and you think your unaffected because its not a competetive resource...WRONG! its a competetive market; prices go down because more people (ex duellers) are making nats for money now. Your stock of nats just lost 20% of their value. Lets say you own a phat. Ppl used to use phats for staking against other phats to save problems deciding on a price to stake so phat for phat is fair right? People no longer have that use, prices go down. You just lost 100m of phat value. also ppl are quitting runescape, so before they go they are selling their phat fast and cheap so they can RWIT the gold they get from it. The update has not stamped out RWITing, not atall. -
Curing the Disease by Killing the Patient
monkeyboo2 replied to qeltar's topic in General Discussion
Very good article; intelligent and correct. Jagex have killed the patient, but they have defibrulators if they use them in time . hopefully Jagex will appreciate your 'banning guns' and 'war on terror' metaphors as much as i did. Its just so true. I fear though jagex has got on its high horse :? I hope they throw it in the bin. History proves that listening to players and their complaints merely screws it up more. This post actually does more negative effect in the long run. What? How could they possibly screw up staking more? They KILLED it. Yes, your point being, what? Stakers don't own RS, they need to shut up and get over it. And quick. The comic raise up to 5k per 15 minutes should be a big sign, enough for even dumb people to understand that Jagex has made their decision, and if not respected, than stop playing. And by all means stop paying $5. I'm sure even Jagex would rather miss out on money than keep having a barrel of rotten apples intent on spoiling the bunch. Fook a ji- STFU let me get this straight- stakers don't own the game, but the players have a say, whether directly (by voluntary contribution or gunarneteed content poll) or indirectly (by many ppl quitting and jagex reverting a bad decision). And as a business, i'm sure overall, Jagex do care about the money more than afew rotten apples; they are no saviour holy martyrs for runescape, they are businessmen, good entrepeneurs if you will. And i'm hoping for the sake of their bank accounts, they see sense and revert the change. I'm no RWITer, but are they really rotten apples? or are they some guy in China trying to put food on the table, the only way they know how. Look at yourself man, and learn to goddam empathise. This update effects everyone who plays runescape, don't be so ignorant. Its obcious you understood nothing aobut subtlties of duelling; you think it was easy money? There were subtle techniques thats took a long time to learn and become second nature; only the best became rich. the other million didn't. You think it was so easy, why didn't you do it? why didn't you become the best? You complain about ppl making billions in afew hours and thats still possible if you become incredibly lucky at the godwars dungeon or loot a partyhat set. Both of these require incredible luck- the point of duelling is you control your own money, with your own skill and experience. Its not gambling when you control your chances and you can't complain that people have more skill than you- thats your fault. The problem is now that skilled players have no outlet for their skill, so inevitably will move on to somewhere where they have an outlet-other games. You complain about ppl who smith getting less money. Of course a shelf stacker gets less than a professional boxer. Go and become a communist. You talk about thnis update as if it has actually stopped RWITing, the truth is, that runescape gold is worth more than ever, because RWITers have ppl under the impression that it is harder to trade across. drop trading always has been here. And they use it now. -
yeah trust jagex to do that

1.Duel Arena nerf 2. Pest Control 3. Pure essence 4. Shop stock ( and prices) first update. 5. Impetuous Impulses. ( the drop rates werenn't as fast money as red chins, hunters didn't really get much)

Will there be any impact of duel arena update on rares?
monkeyboo2 replied to Freesia's topic in General Discussion
Unlikely. Whilst stakers are probably some of the richest players in the game, they are not actually generating any income.. No new money enters the economy as a result of a stake being won or lost - it is merely a change in the disribution of wealth. Stakers are, therefore, simply efficient collectors of gp. It is always difficult to predict the impact of any updates on the price of any items within the game, but if even half the number of stakers quit that have threatened to then the supply of rares will also be reduced as they are taken out of the game on retired accounts.. no but for the sake of rares, duellers gathered and accumulated money rather than it being split up, and not effecting rares. When it is split up, it may not buy a rare. Ppl can't gather money as fast any more, so less rares will be sold, and rare prices will fall. -
It'd be far better if it was like the old duel arena with unlimited stakes and options of Free for all, friends only and invite only to join. Also should be able to set lvl limits, whether it be combat or skill lvls. You decide on an entrance fee, and have your own private tournaments. Winer takes it all. would be far better than small prizes, waiting times, system problems and lvl 110's playing lvl 50's.

'It's not a dictatorship, it's a game." = Perfection?
monkeyboo2 replied to n_odie's topic in General Discussion
i hear the limit for tournaments is 1m -.- and you must have atleast 64 players. Of course not. It is only human to err. And satisfying one group will only create complaints in another. It is impossible to satisfy everyone's desires. Of course, but it would be wise for jagex to aim for pleasing the majority of the players. After all, one of all MMO's main goals should be to constantly please the players. I don't think this is one that pleases the majority, once they have realised all the side effects. -
It will, prices are changing drastically, more expensive runes; more expensive santas. Godsword, phat and other rare prices are dropping losing ppl alot of money, maybe you. dharoks, just dropped alot, as did guthans- if you own these, you've lost money.
-
Yea, that would work the same way. :P P.S. 800th post!! :D yes, the only way that i was becoming rich again, ruined. It was the fast way, now the fastest way is 1m per hr at rc for me... Other stakers have got rich and jagex have closed the door behind them, the poor now stay poor, the rich stay rich. Duelling was the way that most ppl made the jump; other than masss amounts of time. My skills, which i made specifically for duelling are put to waste and even tournaments don't have large prizes, i was expecting them to be mils and mils tournies... I feel my time has been wasted, my first duel video ruined and prosperity prospects down the drain. Now the person with most time is the richest, the best-gives no-one else a chance. Jagex, there are other ways of getting rid of RWITers, this isn't an acceptable one. And i doubt i will play much longer on such a mediocre income.

Most ppl don't realise that 2 or 3 ppl hunting red chins per world is faster than on your own. On your own they spawn faster than you can control and catch them, you get behind and end up having to kill the ones that run off quite often. (100k per hr) With 2 ppl, you can keep up with the spawn rates, and can stop the chins from running off for long periods of time. It is faster xp (110-120k per hr) With 3, you're effiency is reduced back down to the same rate as on your own, unless you have an effective positioning of your traps. (100k per hr) I have 26m hunt xp btw, i'm know something of what i speak :). Getting such high xp rates require lvl 80 hunt atleast and minor skill of positioning-try to spread your traps across the spawns, don't try to pretend that the silly box formation is the best, thats just lazy. :shame:

"Runescape : an education that kids don't need?"
monkeyboo2 replied to supanova's topic in General Discussion
[hide] This age restriction is very recent. I started in October of 2005 when there was no such rule. Jagex made this rule to comply with some American law (that IIRC, was repealed even more recently) so they could advertise the game and allow servers to host it in the US. It's called "COPPA" or Child Online Privacy Protection Act. It was fairly draconian in penalties for companies that failed to meet it's stringent conditions about gathering data from their player base of children. I know quite a few families that play Runescape, and yes, children too. The youngest player I know of, personally, is aged 6. He's the son of an Australian friend of mine, and she guides his activities in this game. There's also the 11 year old girl I've known since just after I signed up. (Tell the truth, I had thought her to be at least college age because of her manner of speech and general maturity in game). Jagex rules at signing up now state a person under the age of 13 can not create a new avatar. This does not, (at least Jagex don't enforce it), affect avatars created BEFORE this COPPA act compliance, so the problem is not that people are now violating a game rule, but that Jagex either will not or can not apply this rule retroactively. I also know personally, that children as young as 3 can use computers very successfully. They may not play games as complex as Runescape, but they are capable of playing games suitable for their age. With a responsible adult at their side to guide their activities, children can safely play some online games too. I'm sorry? Jagex aren't responsible for advertising to children? Jagex don't continuously "dumb down" the game content to cater to children, thereby making it more appealing to them? Yes, parents should be monitoring their children's internet activities, and in an ideal world, all parents would. In an ideal world there would be no wars, rape, murder, burglary, drugs, etc. The world is not "Black and white" as some people would like to think. There are whole shades of grey out there, and This COPPA "compliance" by Jagex is a prime example. Let me just post that again for those who didn't bother reading this the first time : Yes, the authour of that nearly 1 year old article admits here, on Tipit Forums, that he did indeed write that article. HELLO!!?? See above points. It's not that a lot of these children under 13 are playing illegally, they signed up BEFORE Jagex decided they wanted to comply with this american COPPA law so they could advertise in the US for more children to sign up. New avatars can be created by children under 13 now ONLY with their parents compliance, and permission. I bet I know quite a few that don't get either, but as long as Jagex appear to be complying with the law, and the $5 is paid, do you seriously think they're going to overturn EVERY little rock to see what's underneath??:wall: Hmm? Would the esteemed gentleperson care to retract that statement before being shown to the world as a completely ignorant (and I'm using the word in it's proper meaning) person? I know personally, children of 4 that set goals, work towards them, reach them, then make new goals. Day-in, day-out. Not just short-term goals for 1 day, but months long goals. These children can, and do, play games, including MMORPGs. The more complex tasks in games will require adult supervision and help, but are you seriously saying that they can't learn from observation, and repetition?? :shame: Yet another ... person... either UNABLE to read, or UNWILLING to read. The first poster states he was surfing wiki for Runescape yes, but did you actually read the link he supplied (not clicked it, just read the address)?? http://www.tomsgames.com/us/2007/03/26/runescape_exposed/ That's "Tomsgames.com", not Wiki. And we have the authour of the articles here in this very thread, and from what I've seen from the postings here, he's not the moron.... #-o Sir, I salute you on your post =D> No physical damage : on the surface, yes....but it goes further than that. People who have negative experiences tend to react in 1 of several ways. There's "oh well, it's only a game" or "I'm gonna [swear] kill you, you [swear]". There's also those that take it even more seriously. Needless to say I won't discuss that aspect on here. That's an ... interesting ... point of view you've got there. :-k Quite naÃÆÃâÃâïve and ever so faintly disturbing at an obsessive level... You seriously expect people to monitor their children 24/7?? Seems we're back to that ideal world again. :wall: There's only so much a parent can do for their children : yes, we can teach them right and wrong, and morals, but there comes a point where you have to let go, let them stand on their own two feet, let them learn things for themselves. Kids lie as soon as they learn there's a difference between "me" and "you" (for the unknowledgeable, that's approximately 2-3 years old . I did it myself : I told my parents I was going to one friend's house when in fact I went to another's, much further away. Do I regret it now? Yes, I lied to those who love me, care for me. If anything had happened to me, they wouldn't have known until that knock on the door. The world doesn't always deal in absolutes as you seem to think, there's lots of room to manouevre between "Black" and "White". And therein lies the rub. Do you have proof he made up those statistics? Because that claim would be libellous if you don't ;) Warren211, I'd like you to meet Qeltar. Qeltar, this is Waren211, something of an idiot. Hello Warren211, Please, please, please engage your brain before opening your mouth. You won't look so completely silly then :wall: As I've said above, I know quite a few young children, maybe not as young as 5, that play online. Their spelling and grammar makes quite a few people on these, and other forums, look completely [developmentally delayed]. Also as stated above, by myself and a couple of others, this 13+ rule by Jagex is a recent innovation, to comply with the American COPPA law. Players before this was enacted who are STILL under the age of 13, remain unnaffected. That means that they are still able to play the game they created their avatar on several years ago. Wow, Please refer to my opening comments to the last quote. And enact them 15 times. Insulting? yes, you are. Trolling, most probably. Even if, as you say, the ages on the OFFICIAL RUNESCAPE MANUAL, marketed to children's schools, are reading ages for the book, do you seriously expect kids that young to NOT pester their parents relentlessly to be able to play "the cool game of this book"?? As for the rest of your comments, I don't feed trolls, so I'll refrain here too  Umm did you actually read it? He's not biased to the extent you assume [yeah, you're making an [wagon] out of YOU] here. He likes the game, he plays the game, he's just worried that Jagex aren't doing all in their power to ensure the rules THEY made are followed, even down to the absolute howler earlier this year that they PUBLICLY ENDORSED rule breaking such as luring and scamming. His own website, Truthscape, highlights a lot of problems, and in quite a few cases, within days of his writing about them, Jagex "suddenly" fix the problem. Coincidence? maybe....but that's an awful lot of coincidence for my tastes. The only quote you can pull off the whole article is that "the caption doesn't match the picture"??? NEWSFLASH : They aren't meant to. Even my 6year old neice saw that one :wall: In summary, the article is written by someone who HAS played the game for years, knows what he's talking about, yet has to endure the attentions of idiots, trolls and worse for trying to bring people's attentions to SERIOUS errors and flaws in the game, and with Jagex's constant attempts to sweep their mismanagement under the carpet. Customer Support by Jagex is ... ludicrous. It's almost completely automated (YES!! Jagex use bots too!!) and very easy to get an appeal approved [i won't say how, here]. People really need to use the brain they were born with before making public statements that show just how asinine they really are. *Standard Disclaimer This product is meant for educational purposes only. My point is that if the author has screenshotted one of the most social places on runescape and captioned it with 'players kill each other for riches', he is either incredibly biased or doesn't know much about the game. Atleast thats the impression it gives to me. It damages his credibility. Ok, kudos to him if your telling the truth about his 'truthscape' site, but I wasn't questioning that; i was questioning this article. Anyone can fling afew accusations at any game, and that is what i feel that this guy has done. His criticisms are not constructive, and he is basically giving an overall poor veiw of a decent game and advising people away withtout giving them the full picture. -
Making a pure account doesn't make you an ignorant person; being an ignorant person often leads to making a pure account. Ignorant people who are too ignorant to understand the value of non-combat skills, or can't be bothered to train them often make pure accounts... The problem is that many of these ignorant people are often ignorant in other areas such as language, race and just generally don't care about being offensive and narrow-minded. Then there's ppl who wanna go PK but don't have a very good main account and find it more fun to go PK with a friend on a pure account. So they make a pure and go to the wildy and get mocked by the majority of ignorant pures. Some of these ppl retaliate against the ignorant pures, and become equally offensive. Some of them ignore the ignorant ones and stay nice \ . Well thats what i think anyway. O:)

i was at the yews, cutting yews and watching a load of bots... and i said to some players; this is when a j mod comes in handy... and a minute or so later, a J mod turned up and gave them a beating with the ban stick. Irony :)

Do we need a new membership option? Hourly ...
monkeyboo2 replied to truffoo's topic in General Discussion
she/he's talking about having the hourly payment as another option, not removing the old monthly option at the same price. The hourly thing would/should be more expensive per hour on the whole. Admittedly, 62 hours a week for you would be expensive, but you could just use the standard monthly payment, because it would be cheaper for you. -
Bring back the Scammer Black Hole?
monkeyboo2 replied to thegarrett73's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
people who were put in there without much reason were mocked and extremely frustrated about the SEGREGATION that had been created. Real scammers/hackers just made new accounts because their old ones were permanently gone inot the black hole. They just made new ones and continued scammin/hacking on them. Permanent mute works as a better punishment, as they still can't talk or harm anyone, but they still have something to lose; their account- so making a new account to scam and hack on would lose them their main account as well. The threat is much more powerful than the ban itself. Also its less of a humilitation for people who haven't been muted fairly, as they are not segregated and mocked; and there is still plenty of chance for them to appeal and regain the right of speech. -
Do we need a new membership option? Hourly ...
monkeyboo2 replied to truffoo's topic in General Discussion
yes i think its a good idea, but you should only be able to use it for up to 24 hours of total paying. That gives you a cheaper 24 hour option to test members, but not abuse jagex's extra cheap rates. Aslong as there's a limit on how much u can use it (or how little you can use it like u have to buy a day at a time), so it may be used as a way to let ppl taste members but not as a full time members option it'll be good. Jagex have proftis to make you know O:) -
"Runescape : an education that kids don't need?"
monkeyboo2 replied to supanova's topic in General Discussion
Well tbh this guy talks out the wrong end... If parents let their children play it too young (by not monitoring them on the computer) then that is the parents responsibility. Its like if parents give their children Gears of War, then complain about them being corrupted by violence and gore. Anyway, overall RS is a friendly game, and is often joking about the immoral things that quests/the game involve you doing. And anyway, the game is based roughly on RL, RL is a much scarier place for kids lol. :ohnoes: He is completely biased and shows no good points, and o idea of what he's talking about. His Caption to the party room is something like 'players kill each other in the wilderness to gain riches' when the party room is perhaps the most social place on the game for new players -

Dude, the graphics are so good that you can see his nipples. There just rendered images, it would be much harder to do that for moving images in game. If you look around the knowledge database and especially the "why should I join members?" area you will see lots of pictures like these, they've been on the site for a long time. it looks better probably because its a cutscene; jagex are bound to give one of their most flattering images, to make the graphics look better. -
Jagex - Launching two new games next years.
monkeyboo2 replied to kieranread's topic in General Discussion
Yeah that sounds good, as long as they control bots well. Now, they say 2 new games, yet we only know of mechscape, and thnere's been no other leaks of any other game that we know of... so i'm taking the wild guess at the highly denied RS3, because they haven't had any job ads for their other game like they did with Mechscape; they already have the staff. And also they say their biggest investment will be in Runescape over the next 5 years. That makes me wonder where all that money will go, you would have thought Mechscape would cost jagex more to make... So i guess something big is going on with RS and this 'second game'. nAll speculation and i may just be grasping at straws...but hey. -
lol still can't believe this
