  1. Are you sure that's not running Javascript the best? I thought Chrome was pretty bad for java-based programs. Yeah, keep in mind that as confusing as it may sound, JavaScript and Java have fairly little to do with each other. I ran a quick test using all options I have available here. I'd just boot up the game and leave it to run at the login screen with the animated background enabled. Highest graphical settings, no sound. Internet Explorer surprisingly enough didn't even get to the point due to some bollocks Java error. The options screen said that Java was enabled but RS claimed that it wasn't. As far as memory goes, the amount of memory used by the actual game seems to be identical across browsers. Chrome used about 150mb for the browser (chrome processes) and 200mb for the game (java[Caution: Executable File]). Firefox used around 70mb for the browser and 200mb for the game. The downloadable client used about 210mb total. As far as CPU usage goes, it's hard to judge since it changes so much depending on what scene is shown. Overall, it seemed that the official client and Chrome were about equal in CPU usage, with Firefox' usage being a little bit below them. That said, Chrome does have some annoying issues on F2P; whenever the advert changes it causes some whacky blinking and stuff. Might be 'cause I haven't updated for a while though :P (Edit: updated, still the same thing. Updated version does use a tad less memory though still more than FF)
  2. Yeah, like these gentlemen said, the quest guide's been updated since. I was bullied into using it when doing the quest myself and can confirm that it works correctly now. I think both concerns have been addressed properly then. Locking :)
  3. Yup, we simply use the length as specified by Jagex. The quest really isn't that long, even if it might appear to be due to how painfully slow the manipulation of the main puzzle goes. What's confusing about the guide exactly? As far as I can see, the guide tells you exactly what to do
  4. What a strange thing to do :S for what it's worth, you can still view the contents of the older journal entries through the page's history. The newer ones don't seem to have been added yet, though.
  5. I don't think you can, Apparently he has a attack where he hits you really hard if you stay on the opposite side to him for too long. Yeah, if you do that he'll drag you (and your entire party, it seems) into the lava. Lava just ain't cool.
  6. Hey, thanks for the suggestions :) It actually would make the squares bigger. You'd need to place either three images next to eachother, or three images underneath eachother - to keep the map section square its dimensions would need to increase by 50%. I agree that a diamond-shape would look better but the tool's large enough as it is, especially on lower resolutions its already taking up most of the screen. Sounds good to me. Edit: but, it might be confusing as some rooms do exist but don't have anything of interest inside. Idea's good, but it'll need some work before it can be used in the tool. I'll see if I can come up with something. Maybe a 'lightbulb' icon you can use to put a tiny dot in a room which is "existant yet uninteresting" to make it light up. To mark unexplored rooms with, you mean? Sounds good. That might look neat, but then background-changing icons would need a section of their own (as it'd be confusing to have a few items in the 'other icons' section work differently from all others without any visual indication) and there's really no room for that at the moment :P as it is right now it might look a bit silly but hey, it works. Maybe this feature will appear in future. Edit: 2 & 3 have been added. Also added a simple 'mark room as explored' icon to solve issues with 2.
  7. There's a number of videos on him on YT. One involving a 5-man team getting smashed can be found . I think the huge hitting attacks are random and meant to take you down to 1 LP, yet it doesn't seem to work that way when he's using his magic (and possibly ranged) attacks as I saw some guy get oneshot from nearly full LP :-X
  8. That's what the KB says. So assuming that it is in fact correct, it should work on single-stat curses too. I'm guessing it works for multiple single-stat prayers/curses, too.
  9. I think it'll just be a flat +5% bonus. Also ran into a new challenge room just then. It involved a "mercenary captain" who would periodically call for help, summoning a forgotten mage / ranger / warrior. The captain himself looked and fought just like an ordinary forgotten mage, apart from the calling for backup. Was level 98, pretty high as far as F2P monsters go.
  10. Bought the F2P prayer amulet, since it was only 8500 tokens. Twisted bird skull necklace "The skull has been horrifically distorted." Requires level 30 Prayer (and DG) to wear. Grants +1 prayer point for each normal / burnt / bat bone buried. Also grants a +9 equipment bonus to Prayer. No weight. Cannot be alched. As far as F2P amulets go, it looks pretty good.
  11. It appears that the Amulet of Zealots and the Twisted Bird Skull Necklace (the lesser prayer necklace) are both available on F2P.
  12. Considered it, but decided not to. The ability to add one key (or home base, boss room) multiple times doesn't hurt anyone, really. If you accidentally do a double-add it's easily cancelled, and if you feel like make a funny shape or whatever you can knock yourself out :P Also considered that, but that'd make the map grid unreasonably large. As it is, the calculator's already bursting out of the tip.it page wrapper at lower resolutions. I think that with four spots per room you'll generally be able to mark all interesting things about said room. Not much difference between marking the door itself with a key, or simply marking the room where the door's located. Thanks for the suggestions though :)
  13. Good call, will do  Edit: icon has been added, will be visible on the live site shortly etc etc
  14. You're right of course :) I'm completely stumped on what icon to use for that though :|
  15. Heya, thank you for your submission :) I take it you were using rapid style? At any rate, I'll look into it. It seems the Void set gives a greater damage boost than the 20% boost that is advertised, and the folks over at RSWiki seem to be thinking the same thing. I'll see what I can do.
  16. Considering that RSWiki also has it listed, that explanation's good enough for me. Adding it now, thanks again :)
  17. Heya, thanks for your submission :) I agree that information on which skills are 'assistable' should definitely be in there. I'll go add that. As it turns out we're already in the process of making some updates to the effigy guide, and the new version indeed does come with a dragonkin lamp XP calculator. Thanks for writing up a rough draft though, I appreciate the effort :)
  18. Yeah, the part where it's mysteriously immune to alchemy stood out to me. It seems that while we were busy neglecting this post (sorry!) we did find out that it was dropped by Men, but it was indeed still missing from Women. I've added it to their droplist and credited you :)
  19. Hey Dartagnan, thank you for your submission :) I know it's not that spectacular of a drop, but did you happen to screenshot it? If not, I'll just make an invisible note on it so we can credit you when we do confirm it.
  20. Heya CorporalKO, welcome to the forums and thank you for your submission :) Did you happen to screenshot the drop?
  21. Heya Noughat, welcome to the forums and thank you for your submission :) Are you absolutely sure that Arctic Pine gives 140 xp per log and not 140.2? The knowledge base does indeed list them at 140.2, and I reckon it's very easy to mistake this for a plain 140 xp value. Same thing for firemaking, the knowledge base does list arctic pine logs at 125 xp, just like our calculator does.
  22. It's good to see the DG grouping system see some attention :) while it is indeed a shame that all the time spent on coding it has been for naught, at the end of the day I feel that there's really nobody but the coders who are to blame for it. My opinion on things such as the DG grouping system is pretty black and white: if it's worth using, people will use it. As it is, there's just too many flaws and shortcomings in the system, some of which have already been pointed out in this topic. I'd like to add the fact that the entire system isn't really intuitively clear - the way rooms are linked to themes and FFA play is just rather abstract, and the fact that the KB article needs five paragraphs to explain the system kind of underlines that. There's really no way to find out about just what the rooms do unless you read about it or just randomly stumble into them for no reason, and as we all know there's many people who don't like reading much at all :P general design principle is that if you want people to use your stuff, keep it stupid simple. Not happening here. But hey, no shame in not getting it right the first time around. Even Blizzard needed two tries to properly nail down their 'looking for group' system. I can almost describe the situation before that by copying a sentence from the article and changing a whopping two phrases: 'people stand around in capital cities shouting an assortment of letters and numbers, waiting for people to whisper them as a request for joining their team' :P So yeah, while there's certainly some merit to an automated grouping system, the current one just isn't cutting it. As for the second article, I must admit that I stopped reading it after a few paragraphs 'cause of spoilers. I'm one o f the few crazy nuts who does care for the story behind quests, and I haven't done the void series yet so :( That 'did you know' is kinda scary. I recall making a bit of a detour 'cause I forgot my seal of passage like a week ago, I had no clue you could just lie about things. Duh! :(
  23. There is now a 'frequently used' category; (grey) chinchompas have been listed in the alphabetical listing further down. They have a strength bonus of +0 which was likely why they weren't listed in the first place. Locking this :)
