  1. Why do teachers like being so scary on the first day of school... My schedule is terrible. But I've said that after the first day of my first two years of high school, and at the end of each year I find myself with a schedule that I generally like. I have nearly no friends in my classes, and the few friends that I do have classes with aren't exactly the brightest people around. And the classes we have together happen to my toughest classes...and I also have what I consider to be the second worst block to have free. Alas, my AP chem class looks alright, despite there being very few other juniors in there. And Latin will serve as my lulz for the day as well as naptime.
  2. There are very few people (er, let's go with no one) that I fully trust. Though I always find it easier to tell things that I'm reluctant to share to people I barely know than to my closest friends. But I've got a friend who apparently trusts me a lot, and I do trust him back. One there. Then there's my sister, but I dunno if that really counts. I can think of up to 10 more (a blend of guys and girls) that I keep a distance, but I do consider them good friends. Everyone else is basically just an acquaintance looking at it broadly. I enjoy the presence of some more than others of course, but I probably wouldn't even go out of my way to talk to them, let alone trust them.
  3. I died too. Lost a golden brick and some random crap. My equipment's decent though, I guess. Worst is +2, best is +6. I joined some random guild because I don't really care.
  4. I liked that book. It started really slow but I thought the plot twists toward the end were great. I couldn't get into the rest of the series though. Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time, but I didn't really like the other 3 books in the Ender saga either. I thought the entire Shadow saga (Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant) was pretty awesome though. Orson Scott Card also wrote a book called Empire, which I found to be alright. I finished A Game of Thrones a few days ago, and it was pretty good, but I haven't read good epic fantasy in a while. I'm finding that I don't have time to read A Clash of Kings (the next book in the series) because I'm slaving away at my summer homework...I want to strangle my Latin book... <_<
  5. SO MUCH STRATEGY That's a good thing. Haven't seen many of those on these lists so far.
  6. That's what a legendary (and I mean legendary) Latin teacher at my school said. You know a language when you can translate to and from it without having to think, without having to do it word by word, and thus you can think in it. I'm not really sure where the subconscious translation comes in when I hear Chinese and respond in English though. Do I hear the Chinese, translate it to English, and form a response in English, or do I hear the Chinese, form a response in Chinese, and translate it to English? Or are the two one and the same in my mind? Hmm.
  7. lol das... Interesting you should ask this...about a month ago, when I had been in Taiwan for about 3 weeks, I started to think in Chinese again. As in, it was my default language, and no matter what language you spoke to me in, I would respond in Mandarin. Not the case online since it's a pain in the ass typing in Chinese, but yeah...that hadn't happened in over 10 years (waaaaaaaay back when Mandarin and Taiwan were all I knew, and I wasn't online much if at all, so there weren't things like forums about a MMORPG for me to use English on). There are some words or phrases that I will think in languages other than English. Back when I took French, aussi was a common one for some reason, and there are some Mandarin phrases that simply don't exist in English. If you speak to me in Mandarin (as my mom and some other adults I know do), I will respond in English 99% of the time, unless, of course, as I mentioned, I've just spent a few weeks in a place where everyone speaks the language. But! Sometimes, very randomly, I will just start speaking Mandarin instead of English for no apparent reason. (thinking in Latin would just be awkward. anyway.)
  8. Nice! That's the one near the MFA, right? I think I've passed it a few times. Boston's a great college city so sounds like you'll have fun. ;)
  9. Don't remember my first, my second was to divide by zero (how fitting for me), and my current one is to find a black cat in a dark room.
  10. I have a handful of nuts. I'm also trying to divide by zero. I don't even this game
  11. I couldn't even see normal stars. Man I hate the suburbs. And clouds. Damn those clouds.
  12. Apparently my horror stuff is like Stephenie Meyer, my Pokemon fan fiction is like Dan Brown, and the fantasy novel I've been working on is like Jonathan Swift (though I don't know who he is). God almighty, I hope I don't write as bad as Stephenie Meyer! Haha I put in a 55 word story I had to write for English last year (the whole thing is basically a sexual innuendo...or is it?) and I got Meyer. Most of my other writing gets me Orwell (!) or J.D. Salinger, which is somewhat strange since my English teacher in 9th grade was the only one in the school that didn't force us to read The Catcher in the Rye. Then I also put in an assignment that was to write something as poorly as possible and I got Dan Brown. Ahahaha. I started A Game of Thrones (first book of A Song of Ice and Fire) a few days ago...I haven't really gotten to anything yet but I guess it's good. Otherwise I'm forcing myself through Guns, Germs, and Steel for my AP Bio homework (it's an interesting book, but I have to keep a journal tracking my thoughts from reading and that kinda kills it). I also have to read some book about the last years of the Roman Republic for Latin. Fun...<_<
  13. Big Two Many an hour has been spent by me and fellow church fellows playing this. By that I mean we once played from midnight until 4 AM. Speed Scrabble is pretty fun too. Too bad it's hard to find people who know how to play or are willing to. Otherwise, I fail at Risk and Connect Four but those can be fun too. I've always wanted to try Settlers or Diplomacy but you can probably imagine how hard it is to find people to play with.
  14. I guess I'm a loner now. I get along with most people, but I can't really identify myself with a particular group nor do I wish to. My former close group of friends isn't so close anymore, but they/we were the Asian nerds. I'm still a nerd, clearly, and I'm sure a lot of people (if not all) see me that way too. Unathletic, supposedly smart, and spends all of his time gaming - sounds like a nerd to me. Most people don't really know me though. Quiet Asian kid isn't a subculture, is it?

    Food

What's with the bashing on DD? Though I'm biased cuz Dunkin' Donuts started in Massachusetts so we basically have one per square mile here. I need more food that I can store in my room and eat at my computer so I don't have to get up as much. <_<
  16. I find him more amusing than annoying. I heard Baby all over the place in Taiwan which was funny enough. I expected Wondergirls and SNSD, but I had no clue Bieber Fever was plaguing the place. One of his albums was the 5th best selling at a music store I went to. o_0 But yeah no one I know seriously likes him. More of a lulzbieberteehee thing.
  17. WOAH At first I thought I wouldn't like this list at all 'cause it looked like a bunch of old console games (aka games I've never played), but [bleep] that's a nice list. Backyard Baseball was the game of my childhood (didn't get into "intense" gaming until a few years ago). You have the typical classics (OoT, Tetris, etc.), but Mario Kart 64 just tops it all off. I mean I'm sure there are some games on here that I wouldn't like if I tried them, but still.
  18. Aaaaaaaah you sound like me. Except you live in Australia. And we're probably not the same age. But yeah, people say I was insane when I chose my classes for next year. I probably was, since I'm most likely either going to fail really hard or have to study my balls off. But I mainly did it because I don't know what I want to do in the future either. But people (those people, y'know?) also tell me that if I make it through it'll probably pay off. I think I'm just going to do whatever I want (except I don't know what I want! Ah!); it's not like anyone's forcing me to take these classes...I dunno, I think this post might have come off rather conceitedly and didn't make too much sense...

    Arcade Fire

They're my sister's favorite band so I've heard them here and there (mainly Neon Bible). I'm watching (or just listening to) the live concert (or it's a rebroadcast...) on Youtube right now. Pretty good.

    Alignment

Might as well waste a few minutes of my summertime... [hide=]You are 16.7% Good. You are 15.4% Lawful. Alignment: True Neutral You do whatever seems like a good idea at the time. You don't feel any strong inclination towards good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Some may say that you lack conviction, while others might admire you for your capability of remaining unbiased. You likely prefer good versus evil in society, since good people tend to make better neighbors and rulers, but you are not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. You are the stereotypical Balancer. You act in a way that is natural to you without prejudice or compulsion. Examples of charactersand people who fit into the same alignment as you include Linus Torvalds, Dr. Strangelove, Scott Evil, Mr. Spock, and the nation of Switzerland.[/hide] Sure. Not surprised.

    History

After playing enough Civ4 (with the RFC mod), I love history. I used to really like ancient history (Greeks! Spartans!), and then along with my fantasy-crazed phase came a love of medieval history. Nowadays I suppose I like modern history most - everything post-1900. I don't find American history particularly interesting though, probably because I'm not American. That makes even more sense when I say I like Taiwanese history despite there being nearly nothing except being conquered a few times and being passed between empires before today's political situation. East Asian history as a whole probably intrigues me more than it does the average person anyhow. I still always wish that I could've lived before basically the whole world was explored though. Seems like it would be an incredible feeling to spot some piece of unknown land...or even just hear about a new discovery. Although that kind of stuff hopefully will start up once again sometime when (if?) humans find a way to colonize other planets/moons.
  22. One of my friends started playing. I may have to join him. :)
  23. Took a while for someone to mention that. My friends and I used to play that all the time at school. iSketch is pretty cool too. Tied for first earlier today on my first real try.
