  1. That's what it used to be, so I was just asking. I'm not actually using 5%. I suppose you can use up to like 25% (or however much you tax), but you just have to make sure to account for everything necessary. (infrastructure, military if you have one, research, etc.) I've never really used definite numbers for this kind of thing, but I try to make it reasonable. And as we've seen over and over, if something is unreasonable, everyone else will probably shoot it down.
  2. Stuck myself on the map. Hope no one minds. Future future map: [hide=][/hide] We, once again, thank the SR for the money. We'll be putting it mainly towards funding green energy and industrialization in Gabon. The amount of solar and hydro energy being used will increase gradually, creating a greater surplus of oil. And lol, Equatorial Guinea produces more oil than Japan in real life. The military is also being whipped into shape. And if no one objects, I'm going to assume that a military alliance with the DRC has been established.
  3. It's negative. Really? I'd assume it's from the Latin laudo, laudare, meaning "to praise." I think this means it's been 5 days since I started talking with Gabon. Yay annexation or something. Our countries had to set aside our differences, and as a bit of a compromise, our union is renamed Equatorial Guinea-Gabon. Also known as EGG. I believe I also said that we're talking with Benin. Two days left on that, I think. Of course, all this expansion is taking a toll on our small economy. So if the SSR's offer still stands, we gratefully accept it. You'll receive $14m back each year for 50 years. (is it in-game years or real-life days?) Otherwise, development on green energy is going well. Our military has been merged with Gabon's, which is nice.
  4. Yea, no one likes Asian guys. :( And Wong Fu is brilliant.
  5. I think you guys are underestimating Equatorial Guinea a bit. Sure, it's nowhere near being a world power, but its GDP per capita usually ranks in the top 30 (or so - might be 31 or 32 depending on your source, though I heard it's been as high as 4). It's just the small population that holds it back - both population-wise and GDP-wise, I think it's about the same as Iceland. (living conditions obviously aren't as good though) This does mean it's generally better off than its African neighbors. So unless one of you decides to invade (go ahead, I don't care :P ), I should be fine for now. I've got oil too. I'll be declining all your offers for now. (I really do like to be isolationist, don't I?) Though like I said, we have a good deal of oil, our goal for solar and hydro energy is to power half the nation within 20 years. We also hope for unemployment rates to go down to 15% within that time. I'm happy with our literacy rates, though I'm increasing spending on education to 3% of the GDP in an effort to educate our people further. ($150m a year, go!) Talks with Gabon continue as well. (1/5 days)
  6. wut It's Equatorial Guinea. Not new. Confusing name is confusing. Someone remind me, 5% of your GDP is your surplus, right? (something like you tax 20%, and 75% goes towards other stuff like infrastructure and military) If that's the case, then I'll take it. That averages out to 14 million a year, correct? Oh, and apparently Equatorial Guinea's time zone is WAT.
  7. I have like 20,000 troops. :) (it's actually 1,320 in real life, but I've increased spending on military - it's .1% of the GDP in real life, which I think is the second lowest out of the nations that actually have a military) Retech - if you actually have Taiwan, you also have like a 1.6 million person reserve army. 5th largest in the world or something.
  8. Kaliningrad, I think. Because of the immense amounts of sunlight that Equatorial Guinea gets, we're working on making solar power our main source of energy. Talks with Gabon are going well, and we're also approaching the Democratic Republic of the Congo about a possible military alliance against the Republic of the Congo. (I'm sure there's some sort of conflict between those two countries...) Also trying to annex Benin because we can.
  9. It's Papua New Guinea, by the way. And when did Japan get Taiwan? (just wondering) I don't really care if you don't add me onto the map, since I'm still a continent away from everyone, and I'll just do it myself eventually if no one else does it for me. And I don't think Sao Tome and Principe is even on the map.
  10. Oh, did I miss the Olympics a few (like 20 lol) pages back? We sent this guy. :) Overall growth and stuff. The minor victory in Sao Tome and Principe has had a positive psychological effect on our troops.
  11. What my Africa is being touched? The invasion of Sao Tome and Principe is complete. A few boats sailed up to their islands, and once the guns were pulled out, they surrendered. Unfortunately, there was a death or two - someone was a bit trigger happy. The Republic of the Congo is unpleased with this, while Gabon is afraid. Diplomats have been sent there to see if we can solve this peacefully (with them), and perhaps even join our two countries together. (5 days starts now)
  12. I'm Equatorial Guinea. It's in Africa. Not Guinea. Not Guinea-Bissau. Not Papua New Guinea. Not Guyana. Not French Guiana. You see, European colonists were very creative with naming. Sao Tome and Principe is one country, and it's two islands with an area of about 1000 km^2. I'm taking it by force. I might pick another country to basically restart as though. It's nice not having to really pay attention to what's going on in the rest of the world, but Equatorial Guinea is a tad...weak.
  13. My fingers hate the cold too. I think 3 of my knuckles are somewhat bloodied right now - not from punching anyone or anything, but from the wind and stuffs. <_< Though we haven't had any blizzards, snow days, or snow delays, and it was 50 F a few days ago. I guess it's a mild winter so far. (I can see the grass. Usually it's buried under like 2 feet of snow)
  14. Would it take 5 days for me to annex Sao Tome and Principe? Equatorial Guinea isn't a great power, but certainly still much more powerful than Sao Tome and Principe. Either way, Equatorial Guinea will start moving troops. The invasion is on. I'm being semi-serious, by the way. I won't be posting much, but it's not like I have much that I can do lol.
  15. I think I should get Singapore just because. The Japanese occupation of Singapore during World War II wasn't that great for the Singaporeans, so I don't know if they'd willingly have such a deal with Japan. And Equatorial Guinea is just going to go ahead and invade Sao Tome and Principe. Their army is so small that it's unknown how big it actually is.
  16. In other news, the new recruits of the Equatorial Guinean army are being prepared to invade Sao Tome and Principe.
  17. Hm, this looks interesting. I did enjoy the Hegemony until we got into space. I don't think I should take Taiwan this time, since Japan and maybe China and India are establishing spheres of influence over there. Instead, I'll go with... Equatorial Guinea. [bleep] YEAH 1,320 person army, here we go! My first deed will be trying to figure out how this tank thing works. Compulsory service established - all males are trained and put into the reserve forces. Education is also being improved. And I may or may not relocate to Bahrain.

    Today...

You guys are silly. I like the fundamentals, I suppose. Math and physics. Specifically for math, arithmetic and triangles (trig/general triangle geometry) make my heart feel fuzzy. (to not contradict what I said earlier, I like chem better than bio, but physics more than chem) The other reason you're silly (well, some of you) is because you've never had root beer. Though I do remember it being rather rare in Taiwan.

Are these study halls...? No. Free blocks = you get to roam around wherever you want. (you can go home if you really want/if you have time) Study halls = you sit in a room for an hour and do the homework you probably don't have or can't do. I like chemistry better than biology myself too.

    Today...

Last day of term/semester is tomorrow. One more test, and that's math. I got my schedule for next semester today too. FREE BLOCKS YEA [bleep]ING FREE BLOCKS (my school may or may not be lame for only giving sophomores free blocks during the second half of the year)
  21. Just throwing this out there but in a lot of online game communities (HoN, Lineage II private servers, few others) there is a lot of "hate" against BR's (Brazilians) and Russians. (There was a "polish zerg" too on one L2 server that everyone hated, won't go into that though). There's a big conflict between Turks and everyone else in Silkroad Online. (no, I don't play that game anymore, but that's basically all I remember - the public chat being spammed by "stfu turks" followed by Turkish rambling) And Adrenal, in some FPSs I've played, there's a lot of hate towards Mexicans and Brazilians since they lag a lot. D: People make (negative) remarks about nationalities all the time. Often jokes. But you probably don't pay much attention to them unless they're about America/Americans since they're not directed towards you.
  22. I'm going the other way. More math plz. I want to do something related to engineering and/or computers. I don't really know what yet. I wanted to take an engineering class this year, but it didn't fit with my schedule, so I'll probably take it next year. My school also has a computer repair and support class and a programming class, both of which I'll most likely look into. If all else fails I suppose I could be like the rest of my family and go into something medical or chem-related. Or maybe I'll have an epiphany and go do something completely different.
  23. I tried it with my full name. No perfect matches, but the results gave me some professor/doctor in Wisconsin, myself (for some math thing) and a guy who helped write a math book.
  24. My Chinese name (written in Chinese) found a Taiwanese former baseball player. My English name is lame and gave me some motiongrapher thingy and an actor. Also like 5 doctors.
