  1. I didn't know you could starve them out. That's awesome. So that's why a bunch of Swadian troops have been surrounding Hamal for like... a month now. I'm guessing you have to prevent the caravans from entering the cities/castles? And yeah, when you haven't sworn allegiance to any kingdom yet, and you've acquired enough reknown points, one of the Kings will eventually contact you and ask if you want to become a vassel for that kingdom - with it, you'll get your own village (the villagers will pay you taxes and everything). You can also upgrade the villages, and give them watchtowers, schools, mills etc. The villages you acquire start out as being really poor in the beginning, and the villagers don't really like you that much, so you gotta improve them and help out when needed, like protecting them from bandit raids and stuff. In exchange for all of this, you must help the lords/king in battles when they call for you. You also get one of those banners after a while (the shields of your troops will get the banner symbol on them). Also, when you beat other lords in battles, you can take them as prisoners - and if they don't escape during the nights, lords will eventually contact you with a ransom (usually a few thousand denars). I've got 3 lords captured right now. :P In the Native Expansion mod, if you own a castle, you can throw the lords you've captured in your own dungeon so they can't escape. Pretty cool when you have like 10 lords just rotting down there (you can visit them). :P You can also become a marshal later in the game, if the majority of the lords vote for you.
  2. Concerning horseback fighting, what you need to consider is that weapons have different weapon reach. It usually takes me a few battles to figure out the distance when I buy a new weapon. You need to figure out a lot of things on your own though. The tutorials don't explain quests for you, everything about morale (I wish they would), "reknown", maintaining your villages and troops, tournaments... etc. What does this mean? Ah the graphics really aren't that bad. If you play on ultra high it's actually quite pretty. Plus you can download a "graphics enhancement" mod that adds a lot of extra eyecandy. I haven't tried it out yet though.
  3. Less than 500mb I think. Actually, I found the system reqs on the Steam store site, and it requires: Windows 2000/XP/Vista 700mb free disk space 512mb RAM 64mb graphics card or higher So yeah, not very demanding unless you want to play on ultra high or something.
  4. I can't seem to find info on this anywhere, so I'd advise you to download the demo from Steam and try for yourself. It plays great on my 3 year old rig though (2gb RAM, ATi XTX1950X 512mb, AMD Athlon 4600+ X2 processor).
  5. oh boy i am so zany and random let me tell you,
  6. Mount&Blade is a medieval combat simulator that has two really strong suits -- firstly, good on-horse combat and secondly, massive and interesting battles. No other game gives the same kind of intensity and involvement in the battles you're involved in -- when you ride with your army against an opposing force of mixed infantry, missile troops, and heavy horse you really feel the impact of combat, risking your own neck to save your troops while seeking every possible advantage in terrain and tactics. You may arrive on the battlefield with 20 troops and face a force in excess of 100 individual units, all of them on the battlefield, doing their best to take everything you own and it's your skill with a sword and the steadiness of your horse that will decide if you live or die. [source]Sheepgoat's Beginner's Guide[/url]] VIDEOS (apologies for the terrible music) POPULAR MODS Graphical Enhancement 3 Mount&Blade Native Expansion The amounts of available mods can probably be compared to that of the Elder Scroll series. It's pretty crazy. You can buy it, alternatively download the demo, from Steam. Note that the demo is actually the full version, except you can't level past 7. Unfortunately, you guys just missed the -75% offer on Steam. Still worth every penny! So basically, use this thread to talk about this awesome game! Also feel free to ask any questions. Fun fact: the game was apparently developed and updated by (mostly?) two people, a husband and wife from Turkey.
  7. Haha, pretty? :P A girlfriend of mine introduced me to this show like a year ago, saying "okay, I know you don't like anime, but this show is really great. You'll love it!". So I watched it. All I remember is that the entire first episode was spent following this (presumably) underage girl around as she's wandering around naked, killing a bunch of innocent people with her psychic power after breaking out of some kind of test chamber. It was extremely gory and pretty ridiculous. Because not only does she rip peoples' bodies apart, she also has a pair of rabbit ears and acts all cutesy and innocent (trademark of every female anime character ever) later when she meets two kids outside. Oh, and when the boy tells her to [bleep] off, she doesn't rip his body in two, no, she runs away crying. I just didn't get it at all. Maybe it picks up after the first episode or something? The biggest problem I have with anime series is how they don't seem to let you think for yourself. I am fully aware that if a character kills the protagonist's best friend, the protagonist will do [X] (whatever he intends to do will become apparent within seconds), I do not need six of his other friends explaining to me in detail what he's going to do. Maybe a bad example, but anybody who's watched anime probably knows what I'm referring to. I noticed this a lot in both Death Note and Blood+... and it just totally kills the "immersiveness" for me. Well, that and animes' unfathomable need for "cutesy" and oftentimes extremely ditsy girls.
  8. Totally agree. I gotta say that I do like everything Obama's been doing and saying so far. edit:
  9. Pride & Glory - Pride & Glory Porcupine Tree - In Absentia (can't believe I haven't bought this yet) Opeth - Blackwater Park
  10. ZZ Top is touring at the moment (headlining Sweden Rock Festival in June). Unfortunate that their later stuff is a disgrace to southern rock/blues, though. They had a really good thing going with Tres Hombres, Degüello etc.
  11. Hahah, look at this post... it's so edgy. Keep on ragin' against the machine. Seriously, is this whole thread some sort of elaborate troll or are you all really just a bunch of dumb children?
  12. Why are people here so proud that they use a specific Internet messageboard. It's like being proud that you flush the toilet after using it (it's dumb as hell and borderline [developmentally delayed]ed).
  13. Oh, my bad. I wish people would use the quote button...
  14. How is this in any way relevant to anything?
  15. Björn Rosenström, Pantera, Queen. Although nothing beats black metal: Burzum, Anorexia Nervosa, Summoning, Satyricon, Finntroll etc. even if you usually detest the genre, you will love it when you're drinking at a party.
  16. Yeah, all 3 concerts here in Sweden sold out in like 15 minutes. Both venues hold over 30,000 people too. Insane.
  17. Ac/Dc tickets cost a fortune here. Got mine slightly discounted ( 8-) )but full price was something along the lines of £60-70. Yeah, I'm seeing them again in June in Gothenburg (roughly 6 hours from Stockholm), and I had to pay full price for those (75eur a piece), however I got them 3 days before they were released. :P We'll be something like 30 people driving there and we'll be renting a few cabins nearby for a few days. Mostly doing it for the trip itself, because I'm not a big fan of AC/DC. Really looking forward to it. 75eur has nothing on the Rolling Stones tickets we got a few years ago though, those cost like 150eur each. Then Keith Richards had to go and fall off a palm tree and hit his head, so the concert got canceled...
  18. Obviously they didn't quote those kids word-for-word, which I suppose you wouldn't know unless you live in a country where subtitles for TV shows are used a lot. During interviews with people who aren't especially fluent in the language they're speaking, you obviously won't read every grammar mistake and poor sentence structure in the subtitle. The sentences will be cleaned up, but the message will still be there. They'll just - in some cases - be much more articulate and better phrased. That's why these sentences sound like they came from people much older. I don't see anything wrong with that, either. I don't think these answers were made-up by some journalist either. I worked in a kindergarten a few years ago, with 2-4 year olds, and some of the things they said were pure gold; ripe with nonchalance and wit, could just as well have come out of a 64-year old. So I wouldn't be surprised if these sentences did come from 8-year olds. Unless they're in trouble, kids are just brutally honest about everything, and smarter than most people give them credit for.
  19. Seeing AC/DC, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Testament, Nashville Pu*sy and Supersuckers next month. Three concerts, I got free tickets for two of them (AC/DC and Nashville Pu*sy/Supersuckers). :P
  20. How about wait until you're 18. Alternatively, follow your friend's terrible advice and get smacked in the face. "Stand up to yourself and argue", oh lordy. Oh and piercing your nose makes you look like a major douche.
  21. You really had to bring that up, did you. :? If that baby had a gun this would never have happened.
  22. Ouch. Wrong. I'm starting to build up feelings of deep contempt and hostility towards this thread.
  23. I saw the movie adaption of the book Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In) yesterday. I gotta say that it's one of the best movies I've seen from 2008 (probably one of my top 20 movies ever) and I usually hate Swedish movies and I tend to stay far away from them. Seriously, [bleep] that Twilight crap. is how a good romance vampire book/movie about kids is done. EDIT: Oh yeah, Hollywood are making a remake of it... but not of the book, they're making a remake of this movie. Jesus christ, gorefest with zero content ahoy.
  24. Azvareth

    Twilight.

Just thought I'd quote this in case anybody missed it. Me? No, I don't actually have anything to contribute to this trainwreck thread.
  25. My music teacher in high school. Best teacher ever. He played Pantera and Megadeth during our final exam.
