Turn mod Crown OFF! (And back on) With pictures

Recommended Posts

It has recently come to my attention that a mod friend of mine (and infact when i think about it alot of the mods i know) Are not enjoying there mod powers.

Why?

Several reasons, People beg, they think being a mod means your a money happy person, people want free st0of, which, the mods, might not wish to give away, forced to turn the chat off, or onto friends, or they could try to ignore it.

"Wanna be my friend"?

Most times this is said to a mod, it is not for friendship, for free items (see above) to look cool ("Hey m8 l00k 1 g0t m0d fr13nd!!!11one!!"

"Me mod, me mod me mod MEE MOOOOOOD!!!ONE111!!"

Another highly active reason, people wish for mods to suggest them, and allow them to have the chance of a grab at mod powers, this ties in with the "wanna be friends", some mods dont know when somebody wants to be friend for friendship, freestuff,or mod begging!

IM NOT SAYING EVERYONE WHO HAS A MOD FRIEND IS JSUUSW ALOT OF PEOPLE DO THIS!

So? how do we solve this problem?

Theres one thing which triggers thos tiny mind of those beggers, those minds of tiny 9 year olds, tiny minds of thos "i wanna look cool" tiny minds of those wanna be mods!

The answer, my people is..

The crown.

Yes that tiny silver/gold crown is what triggers these horrible little people to beg or whatever they do which wrecks the runscape world even more =p

SO to solve it, i wish there to be a option which is only avalible to mods/staff, it is located on the profile page, an option to turn of THE CROWN!

Heres is a picture to show it OFF...

modoption1fq2.png

And ON...

modoption2mz7.png

Wouldnt it be wonderful, to turn that crown off, you'll still have your powers, but no one could see that crown, it shall be eliminated! No beggers for those mods! So, what do you think? This is my first suggestion, please keep post clean of slamming and nice postive posts =p

Dissagree. I'm a pmod and there have been so many discussions about the option to turn it on and off. It always ends up no.

The reason I remember being cited most of the time: "Hey, I'm a pmod, just have the crown off. Give me your pass and I'll make you one."

And people would fall for it...

Jagex has already said they will never allow that option. It's not fair to other players whether moderator or non-mod. Player moderators represent Jagex, and if they could turn it off, they might be tempted to do un-modly things which would be bad. So I have disagree totally.

It coul also be for the sake of catching lurers and scammer while being able to speak, the scammer/lurer would have no idea...almost like bait cars really, they have no idea that the car is under surveilance and its the same with mods,

Perhaps what could be done is leave a subliminal trace about whether someone is a moderator. When the crown is off, another trace that could be used to detect a moderator could be used instead, where if someone really looked for it, they'd notice it...

Perhaps, it could be from inching that player's name over 2 pixels (not exactly noticable, but distinquishable if looked for: people have noticed 1 pixel changes before - reference to skill list and prayer menu), or having a different colon put at the end (make it seem more like an equal sign rather than a colon does).

Those are just random suggestions, however I do have to agree that this would be a bad idea on the basis of "I'm a mod with my crown off, let me scam you."

don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?

I'm a mod and i agree, not so much for the 'phr33 stuff pl0x' ppl i kinda like the attention but cos when i try to catch a known scammer, they can see my crown shoudl i choose to speak. Entrapment is the way forward.

I agree people could claim they are staff but that is already covered in the staff impersonation rule.

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

Pmods can simply not talk to avoid the whole issue. I have a pmod friend who just talks through private chat when he doesn't want people to know he's a mod.

Exactly. If I'm in a bad mood, I don't talk to people around me, and catch people. If I'm talking, there is just as many people breaking rules that I catch. The crown really isn't a very good deterrent.

In America we have laws against entrapment, the authority can't hide who they are and then punish you for something that they get you to do. How easy would it be for this scenario to occur:

Player 1: *random insult*

Player 2: *random comeback*

Player 1 - Flicks on crown

Player 1: Player 2 you are now perm muted for offensive language

Mods would have too much potential for abuse, if you don't wanna be a mod then tell Jagex and stop being one, let a more responsible and capable player be a mod, preferably one who doesn't get it by simply submitting *large number* or abuse reports for a life.

You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.

The mods are only doing their job in this case. If you behave differently if there are mods or not... I don't. I may pay more attention for what I am saying but I won't behave differently.

I really don't know if to support or not. But I'm leaning towards support because I've heard of cases when autoers switch worlds when they see a mod crown, so I guess it might help that, as well. But then again, not talking can prevent all those. It can also cause scam, so I think the only way that it CAN pass is to make Jagex make sure everyone knows mods can't do anything special that can be used to scam.. I guess those noobs is just one of those things you have to think about before becoming a mod.

I agree with you on this. Whats the point of the crown? Not just to show off. But to prove to people that THEY ARE MODS and not impersonators. Otherwise, people couldn't tell a mod from a scammer.

Actually, in some metropolitan areas I have heard of cops ith fancy cars who taunt people to race down a busy street, and then when you accept they turn on their police lights that were hidden under an object in the dashboard.

Idk, I mean when people are selected to be mods they're supposed to have a certain amount of maturity, and be ethical.

But if they could turn it off, they could act like a complete moron with no reprimands <.< Course, not all mods are saints, yesterday one tried to Runcraft (misspelled on purpose =P) pk me

I personally have highly mixed feelings on this... Personally, I would love to support it to help my mature P-mod friends, but at the same time, I understand the whole thing about scammers and such... maybe have a way to stop trouble caused by having this, like what I have below?

I suggest that on this idea there be a 'catch-22':

When a P-mod disables their crown, their P-mod powers shut down with it. Further, if a p-mod attempts to reactivate, it takes 2 minutes for the reactivation to complete, during which logouts will be unavailable.

I dunno, but I have the feeling that wouldn't work either. :(

Maybe someone can figure out something? :-s
