First 6 Runescape toplists

Featured Replies

Before website got hiscores they released toplists in text format and in part of newsletters.

I collected all from january 2001 to july 2001 in one place so new players can see old newsletters how runescape was back then...

Thanks a lot. I love reading old hiscores. Brings back memories of what RuneScape used to be. Such a different game back then.

Wow, those were some awesome times, when the game was majorly updated every week. Notice that they planned a clan system in Februari 2001 already, and they still didn't make something like that :^o

Nice read~ loved how Andrew actually wrote the newsletter back then.

I never had the chance to play back then, would have been nice. :)

Yes there was first online players page where you was able to see every character who was online and their online age...then there was server status page where was showing only highest level player in each skill...after that came top 2000 list (or was it top 1000 first but got expanded shortly?)

I also added today some random pictures besides of toplists...

Judging from the conversations in those pics, all this talk of "the community was so much better in those days" is exactly what I thought it was. Nonsense :D

It was smaller and therefore containing a smaller amount of idiots. In my opinion it was a better community just because it was a smaller one.

Wow cool post and newsletter. Thanks. I'm a newer player (5 months), but it is still really neat seeing that kind of stuff.

And lol Sumpta....I noticed a lot of trash talking in those pics as well

From February 7th, 2001.

I never played in the old days of runescape classic (started in 2003). But no highscores .. That's just weerd

People are always talking about the good ole days. Actually I think it can be compared with when my grandfather talks about his good ole days. When he was young.

In rsc there where a lot less scammers, hackers, noobs, ...

I think you can compare it with less IRL criminality and less environment clogging back then.

In rsc you also had no barrows, cw, ... all fun things that everybody knows today but didn't exist in the good ole days. It was much simpler in rsc.

IRL: computer, tv, ... things almost everybody uses today but also didn't exist in the good ole days.

my conclusion: rsc and runescape 2 have both pros and contras

but if I had to choose I'd chose for runescape 2

Computers will never be above humans because we made them.

That's what monkeys used to say about us.

Cool. I love seeing pictures and stuff from the old Runescape.

Thats seriously awesome dude...I always wondered what it must have been like to experience a holiday "drop". I really wish I'd known about rs back then  . Anyway, thanks a lot for uploading these pics and the toplists, interesting to see Runscape's history
