Is anyone like me?

I seem to be unique in this game. My attitude is in complete contrast to many players.

 

 

 

Firstly, I play this game not as a "community" game or multiplayer, but primarily as a single-player game. Yes, I talk to people, but at the end of the day i would do the same if my fone was free to use If I was the only person in this whole game, I would still play - assuming the human roles were taken over by bots, of course (Castlewars particularly ). Any and all of my achievements are for myself, and never to show off to other people. I would by a skillcape, yes, but only because it's cheaper than obsidian...I have a dragon skirt because it's cheaper than legs.

 

 

 

Secondly, I barely ever care about my time being used "efficiently". I play Castlewars, but I don't care if we win or not. I even stand around doing nothing sometimes. When I'm training, I don't head to the most efficient spot - Experiments or Rock Crabs. Instead, I use less popular monsters to train on, like the creatures from Tolna's Rift. It's dead down there. I like combat places to be quiet; I talk to people using private chat instead.

 

 

 

Thirdly. I don't fletch. I don't alch. I don't pk.

 

 

 

Am I the only one out there like me?

Because your odd enough to assume/imply everyone else does these things and in doing so some what attention seeking and bragging by trying to be 'unique'

 

 

 

I mean I rarely chat unless someone says hyt or hello to me, other than in pms.

 

I chose ways to train I find interetsing or fun, not always pwoer training

 

I don't pk

 

 

 

I don;t assume these make me a unique player then make a thread as if its something insanely special.

 

 

 

 

 

Sorry if I have mis-interprited but to me this jsut sounds like your a cynic whos over generalised the game, calims to not want attetion or whatever but has made this thread as an attention seeking thing to try and become 'famous' as the only player like you.

Well I have similarities to you, I don't have many friends in game mainly because I'm quite picky with my friends and I don't like people that only talk to me because I'm richer than them or people that think they can somehow profit out of being my friend. Also alot of people that play Runescape irritate me so I usually don't talk to many people, unless they are quite pleasant.

 

 

 

I don't have many real life friends that play Runescape anymore so I would say in that respect I play for myself. However I do try and be efficient with my time because I find that sitting around in an online game is not something I have time for, I would rather be working (irl) or actually playing the game.

I have a few similarities

 

~I don't fletch (F2P)

 

~Don't pk unless a friend drags me into it

 

~I don't use some of the "popular" training areas.

 

 

 

I think the reason that you feel unique is because of this:

You don't really communicate with others, so that just leads into different habits, example: For pking, if you pked, that would make you contact people, which you don't seem to do much.

There is not many people like you, and myself I would find RS VERY much harder and MUCH more boring if it was a single player game. I would probalby not even play RS if it was a single player game.

 

For example, it would be much harder to make money. You couldn't sell your items to other players, and you would need to sell it to stores. The stores would give you less money for your items.

 

You would also need to buy all your arrows, gems and other skilling equipment from stores. This would become cheaper, I know. But if you want 100k steel arrows, it would take a while to buy all that from the store. Very, very, very long time actually.

 

A third thing which would be much harder is to earn the money which is needed to buy things from the stores. Sure, you could use skilling to make money, but that's not as efficent as doing merchanting (If you're good at it). But merchanting wouldn't be able to exist if RS was a single player game.

 

 

 

But the main reason to why I don't like the thought of RS a single player game is that it would become so boring after a while. No friends to chat to, just the NPCs saying the same thing all the time. No drop parties, actually no parties at all. Maybe being member would be OK if RS was a single player game, but not as fun as it is now.

I love RS as much as I do very much because it's a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

If the topic creator would really play it purely as a single player game, he wouldn't have signed up for a forum based on the game. :P Few people really play it purely as single player game, but they exist.

 

 

 

I think many, perhaps even most, people play it as small or large ordinary multiplayer game or single player game with chat function though... Most people really don't interact all that much with the massive part of MMORPG and only have a selected group of friends they do most things with and talk to.

 

 

 

As swedishboy5 rightly mentions that the massive part is mostly there during trading / merchanting, perhaps a bit during pking and staking too. Minigames and other such things seem more like 'normal' multiplayer games.

 

 

 

For those who would mention clans as massively aspect, you're right, but only a minority (30%) participate in them according to this Tip.it Poll and only 14% of them really use clans for other things then pking.

Yay! I got 99 mining, guess what, nobody could care less, because its single player, and you just wasted all that time for just a game.

 

 

 

If Rs was a single player game, then it would be just a game. But because its a multiplayer game, its so much more. And I think everyone should use that aspect of the game.

OT: I'm kinda like that too. I also don't have many friends, but that's the only thing we're the same actually. I don't have friends because I can't be friends with someone I don't know. But still I think one of the good aspects of this game is the social contact. I like talking to and playing with other people. But not as a friend, only as a stranger, or a as an acquaintance. That's the reason I like forums so much, a lot of social interaction, but no one who wants to be your friend.

A lot of people in this game piss me off, they are ignorant, stupid and annoying, thus some days i limit my exposure to them by 'hiding' myself away at dust devils or something, i don't pk because i have a funny feeling i would suck at it, i (mass) fletch and alch now but i didnt untill about 2 months ago, i talk to people quite a lot actually, i have few friends because its very hard for me to make a connection with someone i've never met and also a lot of ex-'friends' are people who basically steal from me (can i BORROW this etc.. with no intention of ever giving anything back). At the end of the day everyone plays the game differently and thats cool. After all its a GAME.

I think I'm somewhat like you. I rarely PK, I'll only go into the wild to train on Greater Demons if I feel like it. I don't fletch at all, (I'm f2p) but I do alch on the occasional item when I'm training, but I don't high alch (I can't) for money like steel plates. I also think of Runescape as a "community game", hence the MMORPG status, and I do try and efficiently train my skills when I do something.

The beauty of any MMORPG is that you can play as you want. I myself am an older player (age wise) and a long time resident of the free to play realm. The fact that I am older limits the amount of people I find any connection with because of the amount of younger people that play on the F2P servers. Thus, what online friends I do have are few and far between and it is a rarity when we are all on at the same time because of differing schedules. With all of that I'm nearly playing the game as a single player experience.

 

 

 

I usually confine myself to training a skill and I might socialize with whoever joins me in training, but that usually doesn't go beyond trading pleasantries or asking what level they are training towards. Also as I am a F2Per, I have little else to do besides train a skill or player kill, which I am not a fan of for various reasons, and that greatly limits what I can do in the game compared to a member where the opportunities for socializing are much greater because of how much more is available to them. As I said in my first line, play as you wish to play.

I like getting stuff to look good, because i like lookin cool lol. I'd still play the game if i was alone, but it wouldn't last long...not at all, because a lot of stuff would get boring to get and acquire on my own.

I'm like you in some respects in that I don't PK, nor am I that bothered about the multiplayer element. In my experience, most other players are they just to annoy you, and make the game more difficult. However, having said that, I hugely value my clan mates. Without them I doubt I'd play anymore (they're more like friends than clannies)

 

 

 

Unlike you, I am focused on efficiency. I don't like doing things that don't earn exp at a reasonable rate. For that reason, there's many minigame I don't play (barbarian assault, jungle clear up etc...), and don't runecraft, since that's slower than a week in the jail ;)

when i first started, i played a bit like that:

 

i switched off chat and didn't trade with anyone.

 

Didn't actively train, just did some quests and wondered around a bit,

 

and i generally went to quiet places as if i ever put chat on, i was inevitably called a noob....

 

 

 

If i'd have continued playing that way, seriously, i'd have got bored and quit long ago.

I was like that when I first started playing (a long time ago).

 

 

 

It's not odd, but if you have been playing for quite awhile-it sure is strange. I think that once you play long enough you'll just figure out that it's a waist of time.

 

 

 

I don't do any skills except combat skills + pking. Simply because I have enough money to pk and I feel in a way that skills are a waist of time but eh that's just me :)

 

 

 

Pking is the only thing that keeps me playing this game :mrgreen:
