May 23, 200719 yr Pretty good explaination, though I wouldn't know if it's faulty. I was expecting some random gibberish without any real facts waiting to get flamed/locked. taking a break
May 23, 200719 yr I wonder how your dopamine levels go down. :-k Well I havn't played Runescape too much recently. I'd probably guess that your dopamine is made when you have the desire to do something. Lately I havn't had the desire to play Runescape. Thanks for the info. :) Well there are (I think they are glands) glands that secrete the dopamine. Those just release less depending on your positive or negative stimuli. Also, its not just the decrease of the dopamine but the receptors that register the effects can weaken or die. That is pretty much what depression is (but there are, of course, other factors). Its actually the other way around. If you see a computer, for example, the dopamine is produced which makes you want to play. So the dopamine causes the desire, not the other way around. The apathy towards Runescape could simply stem from the fact that you dont really care for it any more. That or you just dont want to play right now. Its not really an addiction, its more of an affinity or a like/dislike situation. If you dont like something, even if it produces dopamine you wont want to play it. Thanks for your post! Dopamine is secreted in a few different area of the brain, including the hypothalamus which acts on our sympathetic nervous system (the one that speeds things such as heart rate up). Thats about my knowledge on dopamine but, nice post, you know your stuff  EDIT: Just re-read 2nd page, LOL at ddubs joke... May 23, 200719 yr Good read. Adding on to what cdub said, Dopamine is something that would make your heart rate accelerate, and although you are using the same parts of your brain for solitare and rs, different neurotransmitters are used, depending on the stiumulus that is recieved in the sensory neurons. All in all, very interesting. Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it
May 23, 200719 yr "It's not my fault I'm addicted to rs, it's dopamine!" Nice analysis though. I love reading anything related to psychology, especially tying in this game. I do agree with Cdub in that you probably oversimplified the issue or are unaware of some important fact. But since I don't know what that'd be, again, nice job on what you do have. :)
May 23, 200719 yr Wow, you people act like if he brought world peace O.o I mean, its a good paper, I'll give it an A, but dang. Chill lol. All addiction is a chemical that reacts with desire or pleasure. He just added a buch of big words o.O "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

May 23, 200719 yr well.. it almost fits, i don't know much about the what the different hormons is called, but it's a little like this. ' example = apple you eat an apple, and you are enyoying the taste very much, and as you said, this makes you eat another apple when you see it, you still like it, and you continue eating apples but after a while, if you eat enough apples, then it's not the great taste that makes you eat it, but that you are fealing that you should have another one, because you like it... and believe it or not, there are a lots of people addicted to apples the problem comes when the same thing happens with gambling, online games et cetera, the thing that you enyoy the chance of winning, or the exploring of new things in the game wants you to continue, and after a while, it's not the fun that drives you, but the desire to continue with it. and as everyone know, it's not as good to be addicted to gambling /gaming compared to apples, but it's kind of the same thing
May 23, 200719 yr This is one of those threads where you should write like 50 sentences or more...But I will not do so :P. I will just say what I think that you should say about this: Intresting and cool facts 8-) . Thank you for learning me something new :). Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

May 24, 200719 yr A fellow AP Biology Student! Nerds ftw! lol jk Good read I can understand some of the points you were trying to get across but you really control your mind. So if you really wanted to quit Runescape or anything that's addictive you could, it just takes reinforcement and therapy if it's serious. I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
