I found the amount of processed food in both American families absolutely frightening. I had to look long and hard to find a piece of fruit or a vegetable.

...and the Americans have more than 50% of junk food. :notalk:

yeah i noticed that. well, at least my family eats healthy :D

Just to throw this out there, produce is quite expensive in the US. To eat healty you have to have a much larger budget. Low fat foods generally cost more than high fat foods so it's cheaper to buy more high fat foods. I go grocery shopping with my mom occasionally just to make her buy more produce/low fat foods and when I go shopping with her we buy less and spend more. You can't just say we all love to ingest as many calories as possible, it's just cheaper to eat that way. At MacDonald's you can get a double cheesburger for $0.99. Try to make one from store bought meat, buns, cheese + whatever else you want on it for that price. It would be healthier to make it yourself but also more expensive.

Well that almost makes me feel bad to be an American. :-w

The Germans are so well organized, and ...wow. How do you feed a family 6 off less than 3 dollars a week? :uhh:

Good point.

The amount spent at Fast Food restaraunts in the U.S. is insane though. My family hardly ever eats at a McDonalds (maybe twice a month if that), but we order out Pizza probably twice a week (not because that's what we want, we are just restricted by our schedules).

I've always felt as if I'm the only person who can understand the concept of sarcasm on the internet.

That's why most people who eat perfectly healthy cook instead. The "low fat" processed products are 90% of the time not healthy for you because they add sugar, salt, or something else to make up for the low fat. Tbh, most low fat products are another catch for the uninformed customers to fall into.

I like the German one the best =]

Kuweit one looks nice to mmmmmm pita bread.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

There was a whole article in TIME magazine with those pictures. It was an interesting read. My family eats like the Revis family - we just have a lot less than that because we eat out for most meals.

Me and my family spend around 50 dollars weekly on food.

You will find all the answers in your heart,my son.

What DeloriaGod said was a good point, healthy food costs more. One Subway sub costs as much as a meal for 2 at McDonalds. And even at the store, whole grain bread, what I buy, costs more than the regular stuff.

bubsa, yea i was looking at that. and i know Americans are pigs but thats ridiculous.....and look how much booze the Germans had lmao!

Well that's pretty interesting. My family is like the Revi's family. Although there are fat foods, I'm pretty skinn/muscular. I work out - exercise. I'd actually like to eat more like the Manzo family.

Yeah, lets blatantly pass over how much alcohol the Germans have, only to talk about how much of the junk food Americans have. Hah! You all are so predictable.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Ahh that makes me feel so sorry for that 400 pound woman I saw waddling down the street, she is so fat and its obviously to do with the fact she is oh so poor! If people weren't so lazy it is pretty easy to find cheap ingredients, for example not all food is simply sold at a supermarket. Meaning I personally find it pretty hard to feel sympathy for the American families there.

EDIT: Germans have a alot of meat there =P~

Our family spends around 500̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì a week on food

Yeah, lets blatantly pass over how much alcohol the Germans have

Yay, a good reason to be proud to be German. :D

BTW that's a lot of work on Time's behalf to set that all up.

My families like the Caven family.

The biggest difference I saw wasn't how healthy the food was, but the number of brand-name products the American families had. Everything they had in their pantry had a package and some product label on it, whereas the families from the other counties had a lot of produce and whatnot that looks like they may have farmed it themselves.

Which is so ironic when you read this, "Favorite food: pasta, hot dogs, fish sticks".
