June 25, 200719 yr Maybe i exaggerate slightly when I say a crime but it is certainly annoying. I myself come across it all the time, in private chat, public chat and in forums and it is starting to bug me. Some of you reading this will be saying "lighten up" whereas others will be completely in agreement. I am aware that people have medical conditions that prevent them from spelling adeqautely but these are not the people that bug me, it's people who just type things without them making proper sense. The spell the most simple words incorrectly and I am starting to find annoyance in the text speak, I am less likely to trade of help someone who does things in this manner. I would appreciate it if people left further comments and whether they find this annoying. Please excuse any typos! \ 8-) :D =D> :P wow, wow! I've found the meaning of life!Oh oh it's gone again.
June 25, 200719 yr Here's a list of words that irk the [cabbage] out of me: Plz Dis Dat Wif Wat Wot Kool Halp
June 25, 200719 yr Author They annoy me big time aswell, especially when it's not even shortening the word like "kool" you can just as easily type cool! wow, wow! I've found the meaning of life!Oh oh it's gone again.
June 25, 200719 yr I don't care, as long as they do it on accident. I occasionally say "yuo" when I'm in a rush, not because I like saying it though. If someone says "yo rob wat tat wep?" I ignore them because they put in no effort whatsoever.
June 25, 200719 yr If someone says "yo rob wat tat wep?" I ignore them because they put in no effort whatsoever. Totally agree with you there. People like that annoy me so much. I don't see what's so appealing to these people about spelling words this way. It's not faster if you're a good typer because you will naturally want to spell them correctly. That's one reason I never started doing that stuff. I don't even say "u", "c", or shorten any of my words with numbers. In the long run it's actually worse for you because if you're typing an essay you'll be out of practice with formal writing. And yes I find substitutions to be equally annoying. Such as "skimi" or "kool". First off, it's pronounced "simitar" NOT "skimitar" people . And the irony in saying "kool" is the fact that spelling it with a "k" isn't cool at all. PS: You misspelled the word "misspelling" in the topic's title WiivelYoshi. It's one of the most misspelled words in the English language interestingly.
June 25, 200719 yr Author Thanks for that I have now changed it. :D #-o I'm usually quite good at spelling aswell. wow, wow! I've found the meaning of life!Oh oh it's gone again.
June 25, 200719 yr I completely agree with this. I've become so good at typing that even when I misspell "the" as "teh," half the times I backspace through two entire new words just to correct it as it bothers me so much that I made a mistake. I don't mind people using certain abbreviations when they're trying to fit a sentence into one line that would just barely be over otherwise, but when people talk completely in abbreviations, it does get annoying because I have to take the extra time to decode their abbreviations. I think I'll start taking after Roberthree and just ignore those people who talk in full abbreviations... don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
June 25, 200719 yr I sometimes type "teh" on accident and don't bother to correct it. Other than that, I usually type with perfect grammar, even up to the point where I use apostrophes in my contractions. However, there is a difference between a mostly grammatically correct sentence with one or two typographical errors and "wat is tat wep? its kool, can i c in trad plz??" If someone talks to me like that, I either act as though I didn't see what he said or I call him a noob and then ignore him. In my opinion, despite that "noob" is overused, someone is a noob if they type like that. Peoples' typing habits are the first thing I use to judge them when I meet them, before levels or anything else. I am often known to be one of the nicest, most sociable high levels people meet, that is if they prove to me that they are not immature and illiterate. Often, one's typing habits reflect his or her maturity.
June 26, 200719 yr if u typ liek dis nd tink it's kewl, u shldnt b typeing, specialy if ur slling a skimmy cuz teh grammar police wl come 2 u that's when it borders the idiotic. perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
June 26, 200719 yr that's when it borders the idiotic. perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another Lol, I'd sig that if I had room. :XD:
June 26, 200719 yr This sounds alot more like a lowly rant than an actual debate. It's the player's choice if they decide to make their conversations faster by using abreviations. If you want to talk normal, fine. No one's stopping you. If you think that the ppl that talk that way really care that you don't like it, think again. I mean, if it really is bad you could nicely ask them to lighten up on the leet/chat speak, like if it was hard to understand or something. But you should only do that if you absolutely can no longer tolerate it, and you should never resort to outright insults. In, runescape, just like in real life, you have to realize that some people make different choices than you. And unless you're courteous and respectful, chances are you won't get far in life. I don't think you would be exactly thrilled if someone yelled at you for the way YOU speack, would you? Yes, I understand that it is annoying, but you really need to learn to deal with it before you become like one of those impulsive ranters on the RSOF. My philosophy is to try to solve all the bigger problems before you worry about the smaller ones, because the smaller ones may eventually fix themselves. A thread concerning this in debate club should, instead of ranting about the way people talk, attack the larger route of the problem (how these kind of people got here, what influenced them to do stuff like this). This was a fairly long reply, but I hope you got something useful out of it. :)
June 26, 200719 yr Grammar on the forums annoys me most. Like no periods or spacing. "n den i wuz liek lawl plz dis 0wnz lawl"
June 26, 200719 yr I too get annoyed at mispelt words (<- spot the pun), but to be honest the problem stems far wider than the RS community. The amount of people I see at college (that place where only the able are supposed to go) writing the possesive context of 'its' as 'it's' is just crazy. Most of them can't write an essay properly either, which I find appalling. Anyways, there's two other things that really annoy me. When you type possesive words, such as, "Look at Ginger_Warr's whip!", just to get, "Look at Ginger_Warr'* whip". The second is when people type out the same number of characters. For example, 'you' being turned into 'joo'. This just makes no sense... | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
June 26, 200719 yr Yes, I definitely agree, it is not hard to spell a simple word out on a computer. There should be no tolerance...I get people come up to me all the time asking for stuff..."gime fre stof plz"..absolutely horrible..
June 26, 200719 yr Those who may appear to have lack luster spelling skills do not bother me that much. In many cases those people are new to the English language and may not have developed strong spelling mechanics yet. The thing that I gripe about and cannot stand is 1337-speak. Its incredibly harder to type and decipher the following: "Pl0x m8 I need h3lp or dis guy pwnzzz m3 & st34lz my l00tz!!11!!!" When one can just type: "Please help me or this guy will kill me and steal all my loot," in half the time or less without searching the keyboard for all those numbers and inserting the colorful misspellings. I'm sure a few others feel the same way, right? ~Retired 13-July-2010~Thanks for the great memories folks :).

Yes, I understand that it is annoying, but you really need to learn to deal with it before you become like one of those impulsive ranters on the RSOF. And in Runescape, just like in real life, I have the option to mock people for their choices. And while being courteous and respectful won't get you very far, neither will dubious literacy skills. I have no problems with abbrieviations. But if I have to squint at the screen and read out loud to try and figure out what's being said? That's a sign you should get off the computer and buy a dictionary. Note: All statements of 'you' in the this post are used in the general sense. I'm not talking about you specifically Hi9im8Here7.
June 26, 200719 yr I can completely understand when it's just a simple misspelling of a hard or not so common word or maybe just a typo, but it really bothers me when people go out of their way to take a simple sentence and twist the words up so much that it's nearly unreadable. There are times when friends of mine and myself use chat/leet speak just as a joke among us but when I have to constantly see it everywhere by people who sincerely think that it makes them look cool or likable, well, that's when it starts to get under my skin. Pirate Rosetta stone. Learn a language while you scape.Sounds interesting, but these days how many people really speak Pirate?
June 27, 200719 yr that's when it borders the idiotic. perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another Lol, I'd sig that if I had room. :XD: Glad I had room. =) Anyway yes, it is extremely annoying. Especially when they demand something ridiculous. I had one person beg for my full sara. Honestly, how dumb can you be? But that's not enough, they have to spam and follow going "plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz" It is definitaly something to get ticked off about. Well depending on how severe a case it is. To get in her you need a lockpick...Wait for it, wait for it..Bow chicka bow wow!
June 27, 200719 yr i type abbreviatons of things in game wen im in a hurry example. plz ty nty np but i never do straight out leet, wich would be... c0ol 0wn3d or stupid changes like kool I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

July 4, 200719 yr I have the feeling of (excuse me) that those who can't be bothered to type out their *damn* words are those who use the internet solely for chatting and playing RS. Not to be prejudice, but that's just a view I got. Anyone that uses the internet for something where they are exposed to proper spelling will after a while be affected and take after it. One day... when I get a little older and learn a little more about programming I'm going to make an RPG where leetspeak is a bannable offense. Of course everyone will be mad, but I'd be into the skies. Nowadays, if I misstype something that I'm aware over that should've been written different. I almost fall out of my chair. "Noooooo... Backspace! Now!!" R.I.P. Shiva and Steve
