You probably just don't live in a Jewish area.
mad4u689
Mad, although you do follow many of the Jewish rituals, I would not say your are a real jew (as it's commonly defined). Sure you may support their holidays and events but if you do not believe in the high power most Jewish people believe in then your doing these rituals and ceremonies for no reason. Your not following the religious aspect of it. As it's commonly accepted the Jewsih religion and many other religions are based on a higher power. Religions such as Taoism and Buddhism are more loosly based on philosphy then higher powers, although they still are present. Mmm, like someone else said, halachic Jewish law says that one is Jewish if either (a) ze is born to a Jewish mother or (B) ze converts. So I am technically Jewish, and any kids I would have would be, as well. i don't think I'm doing these rituals and ceremonies for no reason. They're important to me and to my identity. It's hard to say exactly why, but I don't think they are just "meaningless" rituals. Everybody hug and spread the love :D
xvillexvalox
I'm very atheist and also Jewish. :D You mean... Jew-"ish" (I love that joke) I'm athiest, but I was baptised. Oh well, no harm done, its just water right?
ThurinEthir
by baptism Christian? It depends on what form of Christianity. Some believe that just believing in God/Jesus and admitting your sins is enough. Others believe that baptism is what it takes. Also, I'm surprised a bit that noone has said Bhuddist* =S I am also surprised the amount of Jewish people in here (No offense...) But, noone in my school of 300+ people is Jewish, nor anyone in my old school, 150+ were.. :-s It's the opposite where I live. At my school, I think half of the people are Jewish. And there are few atheists...And barely anyone knows what agnosticism is... Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu. Ragen
I was a Christian for 15 years but I decided that I was going to take the morals from that and leave the rest of the religion behind. I didn't believe in any of the stuff in the Apostles Creed and I never saw the need to believe. As long as you are a good person and love you neighbour its all fine and dandy. No i don't believe in hell or heaven either, afterlife is a subject I don't particulary care thinking about either as its all speculation. Preaching a solid stance against something you don't know the facts about is just as bad as preaching that there is an afterlife. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! RayOxide
Religion isn't a fad that you just jump on the bandwagon with because its popular. I'm quite pissed now. That was a very stupid post. I don't think I ever stated I was going to choose that religion for its popularity, I simply just want to know what the most popular one is, which has been stated 3 times now. If I was a mod I would have locked this thread as it is producing no real discussion, the OP seems to have no concept of what religion is. A direction to a dictionary would have been sufficient. I believe numerous people don't like me because I 'spam' just because I 'spam' doesn't mean you have to flame my topic. Furthermore, I know quite well what a religion is, so don't judge that. One last thing; if this is a stupid thread, why hasn't a Mod locked it, and why are you posting in it? -.- OnTopic: Agnosticism is the thought of no religion and no religious beliefs, right? : I dont need a siggy no moar. Moonshadow
Errr.... I still boggles my mind why other atheists want to announce that they are one. I tend to stay away from just out right saying it just because the fact tends to draw a lot of unwanted attention to myself (in real life). Personally, I think we all should just take what we belief and just go with it. Don't ask about, or question other's belief. Same. I don't really consider myself to be anything. I don't believe in god and even if he was real, like rick said, I wouldn't care. You stole the words right out of my mouth. But, if I were to believe in god, I would have to have some nice proof. Zealot
I am a Christian. Furthermore I believe in the God of the Bible because I believe that is what makes the best sence of my experience... I could name dozens of times and ways in which either random chance has fooled me into believing that there is something more going on behind the scenes, or else there really is something more going on behind the scenes... The second possibility seems to be the more likely induction, so unless I see something that is catastrophic to my belief system to an even greater extent then what I have seen in favor of belief in God, I will always believe in and serve my King. It isn't that I'm close minded so much as brainwashed... just like everybody when it comes to their personal theological and political beliefs. "He is no fool who gives up that which he can not keep to gain that which he can not lose."--Jim Elliot "You must picture me alone in that room in Magdalen, night after night, feeling, whenever my mind lifted even for a second from my work, the steady, unrelenting approach of Him whom I so earnestly desired not to meet. That which I greatly feared had at last come upon me. In the Trinity Term of 1929 I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England. I did not then see what is now the most shining and obvious thing; the Divine humility which will accept a convert even on such terms. The Prodical Son at least walked home on his own two feet. But who can duly adore that love which will open the high gates to a prodigal who is brought in kicking, struggling, resentful, and darting his eyes in every direction for a chance of escape? The words compelle intrare, compel them to come in, have been so abused by wicked men that we shudder at them; but, properly understood, they plumb the depth of the Divine mercy. The hardness of God is kinder than the softness of men, and His compulsion is our liberation."--C.S.Lewis

Mercifull
Isn't it strange how the main religions of people match that of which language they speak. e.g All the people that speak English seem to be mainly Christian and those that speak Arabic are all Muslim. Seems odd to me that where you are in the world is what religion you believe, I mean there's only one answer and they cant all be right. Richard Dawkins explains this better than I ever could in the first of his 1991 Christmas Lectures, Part 1: Waking Up in the Universe. Revenga
I'm not sure really, so i'm going to consider myself Agnostic and forced Christian. More specifically something along the lines of agnostic theism but other than Christianity I don't know much about any other kinds of religon at all so the whole thing is somewhat confusing. ThurinEthir
Edit: I took a brief glimpse at that map, how could it say the whole United States is protestant Christian? Isn't that errr...extremly wrong? I think the map only shows the most common religion in each country. There should be some maps of the US divided by state out there, if you want, go look for them. And wow, I never knew people in China practice Chinese religions. Amazing. And for the first map, I don't understand any of it. Can you find one in English?
