Gems on the ground

I wonder if anyone has noticed this before but sometimes in the mining guild...I see gems on the ground...mostly sapphires and emeralds...just lying right there.

My question is who would be that careless to throw these away?

I'm sure it doesn't just spawn there..

Maybe some miner using bots that auto throw non ore stuff....

Even other miners dont notice them which makes me think if they are really paying attention.

Any ideas.

Well most people can't be bothered to waste that inventory space with a gem when they could get an ore for it, especially in Mining Guild seeing that Coal and Mithril is more valuable than cut or uncut Saphs and Emeralds.

Cause we mining coal wouldn't you rather have an extra coal than some stupid gem?

gems can be turned into rings and necklaces that can cost over 5k.

coal alone can worth only 200 gp....

i dont keep saphires though. :P

Yes, but in the time that they make that they could have mined so many more coals or mithril ores and if you don't have a gold bar in your bank you need to go down to the Mines to get one and sometimes the gold there can be annoying to get.

Well............. Considering a cut emeral is worth 500-600gp and a cut saphire 200-300gp ya they are worthless than coal alright.

O ya the price raise was because of crossbow's being way stronger!

I usually just drop sapphires, I already got plenty of them, and I really don't even need them.

all i know is just cutting a gem you find is well worth the experience, I bet most of the free gem cutters really do want to cut the gems. Thats why I trade cut gems for uncut gems :anxious: :-$

Alot of the time its powerminers who chuck away their worthless gems and ores when their mining just for xp. Oh and those who know what their mining is worth more than how much the gem is worth.

Well, considering that any gem, uncut or cut, is worth more than a lump of coal, what their doing is stupid really. I generally pick up all gems I see. Thanks to that I have a nifty cut gem collection, almost 1k sapphires soon.

I keep them when im mining and banking. Only time I drop them is when I'm mining and superheating. I fill up my inventory with metal ores before heading out and only leave enough space in my inventory for the number of coal required to make the metal bars (e.g. 6 slots for addy ore). Simply no room for gems then ;)

I drop gems when im in the guild because i want coal, not gems. Although i keep diamonds and rubies.

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

I drop my gems too. If I need them I can get them easily in the rogues den by safe cracking for a few minutes. Due to the easy availability of gems generally, I prefer to keep my inv space for ores. Sapphires dont have that much intrinsic worth to me so I dont bother keeping them (dont use for crafting or fletching, rather have the bankspace for something else).

When combat training, I often bring a chisel, cut them and then drop them again as I would rather have the space for those valuable herbs (I now drop harralanders and below too).

This isn't only the mining guild, everywhere people are getting rid of their sapphires and emeralds. Especially in training grounds, where you don't have any inventory space to waste for them.
