Politicians on Pot

Recently, four or five members of the British cabinet admitted to smoking cannabis at university. The leader of the opposition, David Cameron, has repeatedly refused to comment, while hinting that he has.

My question to you lot is - does it matter? Should we expect politicians to have obeyed the law at all times, even in their earlier years? Should such people be trusted to formulate drugs policy?

And when asked why she regretted it (which shed had to say for obvious reasons), one politician replied 'because its against the law'. Does this matter? Is taking cannabis morally wrong?

I have to get practically naked when I'm cooking bacon.

I may be immature, but that made me laugh!

If someone smoked weed 20 years ago, it isn't a reflection on what they are doing/like now.

There is only one kind of bad person who smokes pot, and it isn't politicians...It's "hardcore stoner d00dz".

We all know one. They're [developmentally delayed]ed, and you all know what I mean (unless you ARE said 'd00d'), so I don't need to explain why. :P

It's pretty harmless.

Well, seeing it's WAY behind thier lives during their uni-years, I'm sure they're different now...

I could not care less if they've smoked pot when they were younger. Everybody has a past and nobody is perfect. Anyway, it's not a particularly big deal if somebody has experimented, alot of people do but the way the media has treated it you'd think they had admitted being murderers.

To be perfectly honest, when I'm voting, I'd rather vote for somebody who is willing to stand up and admit to their mistakes and show that they are mere humans like the rest of us rather than vote for some speaky clean "image" that has no personality and has strived to hide who they really are in order to get into power.

Everyone smokes pot at some point. Does it mean we are all incompetent fools? No.

And you're right taking pot is not morally wrong. It's just the crazy things kids do. And it's horrible for you if you become addicted. But morally, your not hurting anybody, your the one being hurt by all those canabis sellers =/

Its back in the day...meh, i think they expect you smoke hash and get up to "all kinds of ill [cabbage]" when you are at uni...it in no way reflects what the said person is like now. The quotation marks are what my friend at work today said when we were flicking through the papers and came across this story...but i kinda think he falls into the st0ner d00d category...he would probably disagree but he is too busy trying to hide from the stampede of pink elephants outside his house :ohnoes:

Spare the generalization, please.

Nah, it doesn't matter, it was probably a good 20 years ago, they're much more wise to what is right and what is wrong now. I'm not quite sure on whether or not that affects their views on anti/pro marijuana legislations, though. Possibly, the experience of doing said drug could influence both sides of the argument.

the only reason anything is wrong is because we say it is, and Marijuana is only illegal because of the extreme addictive and lethal qualities. Smoking pot isn't any more wrong than smoking cigars.

Like Dusty said, I'd rather have a politician who has smoked pot. They'd realize it's not so dangerous.

Ok, alot of you don't care that mere politicians have smoked pot in the past, but what if it were a President or Primeminster?

I don't think smoking pot is really morally wrong. Don't get me wrong, I hardly ever smoke the stuff, but things like alcohol and cigerettes do alot more damage.

Albert Einstein smoked pot and Francis Crick won the Nobel Prize approx 50 years ago under the influence of LSD when deducting thedouble-helix structure of DNA. Politicians on pot who cares? I don't. I just care what they can produce which isn't much at the moment mind you.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
