This was interesting...I would not want it for graphics though...

If RuneScape was redone as a FPS in 'true' 3D, then it wouldn't be RuneScape anymore. If anything, I reckon they might do a new game with better graphics and some similar gameplay to RS2.

 

 

 

Not being able to play RuneScape from any java enabled computer would be bad!

 

 

 

I play America's Army as well as RuneScape as the gameplay and level-up scheme is quite different (you've actually got to be relatively ok to actually level up, rather than just click the mouse) - the team aspect is quite nice. Got to be careful though, as sometimes you can fall through the floor to your death ... some buggy maps ... pretty funny though.

A great piece of work that is. Looks very good.

That's freaking awesome. If some guy can do it how can't Jagex? Lazy...? Looks great except for the background colour - too dull. But dang, can't complain :P

Just finished watching all of the videos, amasing really amasing work.

 

It gives me the idea of applying this to a platform game in 1 player, which would be amasing. Maybe a USB uplink to invite your mates?...

Looking around for some demo's, Java is not excluded from the 3D party, though newer versions are more capable than older ones.

 

 

 

 

 

If the Command and Conquer series can evolve from overhead view RTS to first person, maybe the next big thing from TB@JT will surprise us all.

 

 

 

Ultimately, Jagex will not be able to rest on their laurels with RS2.

Its nice, but Runescape will never become like that because this is a Java based game and it wouldn't be able to do that, plus if it does happen, which i doubt, it won't be for a fwe years

This game is entirely coded in Java, and uses JOGL (Java OpenGL) or LWJGL (Light Weight Java Game Library) for rendering. Because both Java and OpenGL are open source and cross-platform, and have a relatively low system requirement, any game based on these two technologies should run on nearly any computer.

 

 

 

I have nothing against Runescape for its graphics, I've played since mid-late classic and have had a few breaks now and then, but never truly quit. Imagine the possibilities if Jagex ever adapted Runescape to use JOGL as an extra option, but maintained interoperability with the traditional browser-based version. You'd have all the nice graphics to entice new users, and get Runescape much wider spread recognition as the serious MMORPG it is, but would keep the traditional version fully operating, and interacting with the new version, in contrast to RS2 and classic being completely disconnected.

After the first impression of "oooooo shiny"...... it's just not runesape. I hate the mainstream graphics style used by games such as WoW they just lack so much feeling..... sure it's very nice but there is a reason why we play games...... it should not try and be like real life.

Bobbington2, I agree with you that Runescape's game play is what makes the game, not the graphics, and personally I prefer the current graphics, but if enhanced JOGL/LWJGL graphics were an additional option, I'm sure the popularity of Runescape could quickly approach that of WoW.

 

 

 

Although many gamers agree with me that good game play outweighs realistic graphics, but sadly, a much larger percent of the gamer population believes the opposite.

How many people have quit this game because it takes over their life? They stay in and play it, obsess over it instead of having a teenage/young adult life. When people say go out, enjoy other people's company for once instead of the company of your mouse and keyboard it's true. What the hell is the point of detailing something like this? This guy has even made the colours of the clothes line in the tanning shop correct!!

 

 

 

And people have to socialise to have a "life" because of the simple fact that life will not begin with RuneScape and will not end with RuneScape therefore have an experience of a good social life and a good gaming life. Not just the later.
