underu2000
Remember that ESRB is only valid in the US and Canada. Being a British company, Jagex doesn't abide by their rules. Perhaps a British videogame rating company would have equivalent ratings. But let's look at the points you made Use of Alchohol: Drinking beer and drunk dwarves. Technically there is, so ok. Animated Blood: Animated Blood You mean the red damage splotches? That hardly counts as "blood". I have to disagree on this one. Animated Violence: Impaling things with swords, hurling huge balls of magic energy, shooting arrows at people and things, and other various ways of attacking things. :ohnoes: Definitely this one, its the heart of runescape. But still, not enough for a T rating. Gore: The decapitation of various monsters and dismemberment of sandy hands. I don't think you knew that decapitation meant "cutting off a person's head", which doesn't happen in runescape. And as far as I'm know crawling hands are already dismembered before you kill them. And last but not least, Game experiance may change during online play : I always wondered why they say this; doesn't make much sense to me. And more importantly, you can't play runescape offline, only online. So what's the point of looking for this? So what do you think runescapes rating is? I think T and M would be too harsh for runescape, which is just a cartoony, childish game meant to appeal to a wide audience. It's sad that Jagex is forced to put the 13+ sticker on Runescape just because immature losers decide to curse their brains out here and ruin the game for everyone. Anyway, I would give Rs a E10, i think its fair. Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
berbatovsky
MMORPG with servers based in several different countries, so no it isn't rated E, T,12,15 or w/e else ratings there are in all those countries, Jagex have made their own rating called you have to be 13 to play this game, they are not beholden to a single countries ratings organisation. mrpez
The only reason its 13+ is because of the interaction with other players.

The Observer
It has to be rated 13+ because JAGeX collects personal identifiable information which is illegal if you are under 13.
Star_Fox
The only reason its 13+ is because of the interaction with other players. and yet you cant say crap, which deducts the age content a bit.
Plod2
I don't know much about all these american rating. But I'd rate it 5+. Click for blog!Watch great videos! http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=plod64
ayden7794
The american rateing are E or E+10 now, which is bull for even a four year old could play it, T and M. E for everyone T for teen M for mature. Get me a whopper!
DarkVincent
Seriously, RS is E or E10+,if it was in the US. So it should be a 10+ or whatever there in England. The 13+ is because of COPPA guidelines. I made a topic about this in the Rants forum. Jagex should make the game to 13+, and not 13-. And, they would have an IQ requirement and test to see if you can play the game. People can be over 13 and have the mentality of a seven year old. bombpie
The difficulty of the gameplay itself is not shaped for younger players. A certain level of maturity is in fact really needed to play RuneScape to the full extent, as the game has some quite complex gameplay, puzzles and plots, which older players are more likely to appreciate. Finally, RuneScape is set in a traditional fantasy setting with the usual combat and conflict, so we only recommend the game for players aged 13+ (i.e. if you wouldn't want your kids to watch "Lord of the Rings", you probably wouldn't want them to play RuneScape). I would say "T" because JAGeX clearly states that thios game is ment for people 13+ (t-rating) and the LOTR movies (at least the 2 towers one) are rated PG-13[/b] (games are also rated teen). Thats my input PURE F2p
Infernosage4
I know that during "The Fremennik Isles" quest, they swear a couple times. They say "Damn" and "Hell". aoe325
The game is one of those that try to be T but are really E. If there was swearing, use of T words such as crap, fricken, and other "mild" swears, then yeah it would be T. But its not. So its E. We dont need to swear to play a game, and I dont see how it would make it look more mature :-s Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07. meb
The only reason its 13+ is because of the interaction with other players. Yea, apparantly 12-year olds are stupid enough to meet their friends irl because they have candy. But then again, they can't even figure out why everyone is fletching in Lumbridge cellar. If it weren't for the chat system, all you really need/ have to know is: - About 500 commonly used English words - At least 1 limb - An IQ that consists of 2 positive digits, no decimals - A visual receptor - A thorough knowledge of both internet slang and leetspeak - Be able to count to 13,000,000/ Know where the calculator button is on your desktop The only kind of rating Runescape needs is a warning to people with epylepsy, Fally w2 with chat effects enabled will have them have seizure all over the place. Retired 2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks. qeltar
It's done because of the lawyers, simple as that. Look up the COPPA laws. Meanwhile Jagex markets the game to pre-teens with their guidebook and turn a blind eye to it being spread throughout elementary schools. ~q Qeltar, aka Charles KozierokWebmaster, RuneScoop - Premium RuneScape Information for Expert Players -- Now Free!Featuring the Ultimate Guide to Dungeoneering -- everything you need to know to get the most of the new skill! Luigi222
Animated Blood: Animated Blood "You mean the red damage splotches? That hardly counts as "blood". I have to disagree on this one." Hardly, but it would still count if rated by the ERSB. Gore: The decapitation of various monsters and dismemberment of sandy hands. "I don't think you knew that decapitation meant "cutting off a person's head", which doesn't happen in runescape. And as far as I'm know crawling hands are already dismembered before you kill them." In a few quests, you must cut off the head of the boss monster you defeated, In the Fremmnik Isles you must cut off the head of the troll king, and I beleive you must cut off Elvargs head now in Dragon Slayer. And I wasn't talking about crawling hands, I was talking about the hand in a Hand in the Sand. Gamertag: Marioman222Back to F2P

The Real ET
This has nothing to do with the game being "T" rated... Internet safety experts have advised that preteens do not fully appreciate the risk of providing too much personal information online or communicating with strangers they encounter online. Jeda45
Other than when people avoid the censor (|{(instead of k))the chat is, i dunno, "e" or "pg" otherwise, "t" or "pg13" If you jump into a river in Paris, you're insane. underu2000
Hardly, but it would still count if rated by the ERSB. Yea i suppose, but remember it's not ESRB but some non-American rating board. But cmon, red splotches? Its not even blood, just numbers in red backgrounds showing you got damaged. Perhaps enough for a 13+ rating though. In a few quests, you must cut off the head of the boss monster you defeated, In the Fremmnik Isles you must cut off the head of the troll king, and I beleive you must cut off Elvargs head now in Dragon Slayer. And I wasn't talking about crawling hands, I was talking about the hand in a Hand in the Sand. Woops, wrong hand there. Still, not that violent. But decapitation might be enough. I know that during "The Fremennik Isles" quest, they swear a couple times. They say "Damn" and "Hell". Hardly anything to cry over though... Serious? I never knew that! But it is enough to cry over. Language holds a lot of sway in rating, its almost guaranteed to get a T if they curse even a little. Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
