Outhit
Defence is good, but i like having str and att a few steps up on it. Ranked as RS 3rd best Fogger of all times by Fog Elite, and is proud of it :)
Ran_Martin
i don't have any problem with defence, it has leveled along with my other combat skills, so this "no defense" thing just blows IMO. You know how many more good players would be playing if they trained defence? And yes, im willing to say that Defence is my second armour. I posted here.ftw. Ycon
It is indeed pretty useful (but what skill isnt?), but its really almost impossible to train without wanting to commit suicide... thats the downside of def #-o
Dragon_lord
Defence has been added in the game for players to use to their advantage. Just because pures choose not to train Deffence and call others "Deff n00bz" does not mean we are not allowed to use it. We may use it if we choose to, so deal with it! Pretty much what Dragon said.Thread terminated.I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator? No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post. Outsanity
FUNNY HOW MANY PEOPLE SAY THEY LOVE IT YET CAN'T EVEN SPELL IT! IT'S DEFENCE PEOPLE, NOT DEFENSE. Obviously you haven't taken an English class before in your life. Some parts of the world have different spellings. It just so happens that most people here use the American spelling (Defense) while Jagex uses the English (Defence) spelling. While I'm not sure exactly where the "s" in the American spelling originated from, I do know that "DefenCe" is an old English term that simply means to block or negate a fencing attack. (Fencing being swordfighting, if you didn't know.) However, either is right or wrong, so stop trying to act like you know what you're talking about. On topic. I have seen some people say that the skill itself isn't useful against monsters. This is completely untrue. I fought Bloodvelds wearing Black Dragonhide Armor back when I had about 80 defense, and I would have to eat constantly...I couldn't ever get in an entire task, meleeing, without having to bank for more food. Now, at 99 defense, when I kill bloodvelds wearing that same Black Dragonhide Armor, I rarely have to eat. Yes, partly this is because I kill the bloodvelds faster, but in the same amount of hits I recieve from them, I get 0s far more than when I used to fight them way back in my days of 80 defense. I just don't understand the point of arguing against defense. People who don't train are people who don't play the game intelligently, in my opinion. If you can't see the plus in getting hit less, then you clearly aren't using your character to its fullest potential during combat. Enough said. |2,300+ Total|138 Combat|12 Lvl 99 Skills|99 Slayer|

cotamatias
Who doesn't want to attempt to hit the RS max? Me, I really don't care if I can hit a 40 something with whip. I would rather consistantly hit 25's or 30's and not be hit often. I'm going for 99/85/99 Comb stats. When I do train combat that is. Not soon. Qizx2- ArchmagePersonnumber100- Warlock for life.Would you?

I'm going for Defense and Attack before strength too, especially since I always use the dragon battle axe. I don't care about the RS max either, others have hit it and I don't see the point of me trying to do it. Soulthresher
Well...it has always been trying to hit more at lower levels. Alot of people sacrifice defense so they can hit higher or more often. From there, it had a chain reaction and more and more people did it. You have rune pures that stop at 45 defense. Why? Because they can train a huge amount of attack and strength so they can hit through other peoples defense and hit them hard. Thats how Runescape works. Most peoples defense is from their bonuses, not from their level. Thats my idea of it all.
darkjab
I love defence however it's taking a time out at the moment :) I want to get my attack to 99 first because I love the red cape and hood, then i'll be going for 99 defence. I'll train strength last, it'll drive me insane not being able to use my whip :( unless I want to make the task of getting 99 str 4 times harder
Robot919
I don't really understand, other then the fact to get 126 combat, why do people raise their defense level above 70? Is it so they get hit less? I don't really like defense that much. Other then the armor thing.

Peronix
I'd say def is equal to attack and strength. None of those three is better than the other. A lot of pures say defense is worthless, but that isn't true at all. The more def I get, the less and less I get hit. Even one level makes a noticable difference. If it was worthless, I'd be a match for a level 126. I have 99 attack, yet I don't hit that often on a level 126, and he hits me. Why? Because he also has 99 attack, and has 15 more def levels. If 15 def levels can do that, I don't think the skill is worthless tbh...
snake6man
it all depends on what you do. If you train against experiments or rock crabs, ur not gona need def, ur gona want to hit higher to get more exp. If you pk, your not gona want def because your not gona be wearing much armour anyways. If you train against slayer monsters and other high lvs, you're gona want to equal them out a bit, so that you don't get hit hard but you still damage them desently. If you train mage or range, you probably arnt even going to train your other stats but if you do it should be def, cause str and atk isnt going to help you at all when your ranging or maging. overall, i think def isnt that great of a skill if you dont use it to its full potential. If you dont use armour, str and atk will be much more useful. but if you use the armour, i'd say its easily better than str and atk. So i actually perfer def (73, 71, 82 ftw) because it helps you in a lot more situations than atk or str. Just thought of this: STR beats all if using no armour and wepons, ATK beats all if using no armour but using wepons, DEF beats all if using armour and no wepons.
