Japan Invents A 26 Hour Work Day.

The Japanese are an incredibly efficient people. They work harder, stronger and faster than their American and European counterparts, and seem almost allergic to the idea of taking sick days and holidays.

With that said, perhaps this is why I wasn't surprised to discover this sign outside a chic bar in Shibuya, advertising a 26:00 closing.

Now, although I've never been in the military, I'm fairly certain that after 24:00, the clock is supposed to roll back to 0:00 with the start of a new day.

I guess this brings about a simple question: if you had 26 hours in a day, what would you do with your extra time? Perhaps this is the real reason why the Japanese are so efficient.

If I had 2 extra hours in a day I would sleep in a little longer.

What would you use your extra 2 hours for?

I'd say 2 extra hours of sleep too <3:

Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.

I want a 26 hour work day...

No fair...

More chillaxing and Runescape for me, ahhh great times.

Meh...

Hopefully I'd be able to sleep more before I had to get up and go to class.

What difference does it make? I still get tired after x amount of hours after I wake up.

Taken from the comments on the page you linked:

The Japanese do this when something goes past midnight but is considered an extension of the same day. Thus...a movie running from 10pm to 1am would be listed as 22:00-25:00.

If there really were two extra hours, I'd get probably get more sleep (obvious one)

Sleep, sleep and then sleep some more. Sleeping ftw!

sleep like dead men

wake up like dead men

It just looks like a way to increase productivity by making working past midnight not seem like such a mental leap (as in going into a new day is more a mental leap than working 'overtime').

The 28 hour day wins :D .

Have more free time. I just need 8 hours of sleep and I'm fine.

I'd use the two hours to ask the Japanese what the hell they're trying to do to the space-time continuum.

They probably just have workers get on planes and work as they fly around the planet. Kind of like an "Around the world in 80 days" effect.

Demz crazy Japanese.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I'd spend the extra time sleeping or on the computer.

As a side note, some of my friends are in a band named Shibuya. :o

Cool.

I say we should slow down how fast the earth rotates by 4 hours in order to get an extra 3 hours sleep and an extra hour of work with no regard for the drastic consequences it will have on the planet and ecosystem.

Two extra hours in a day would simply mean 2 hours of free time to me. I already sleep 9+ hours a night (I find I'm far less stressed than last year when I was getting 5-6), and I likely wouldn't use those 2 hours productively for work, so it would probably mean happy times.

Rather than 2 extra hours in a day though, I'd rather take the extra month of time gained in a year off :P.

When you mentioned the Dragon Plates I had a sudden vision of a load of gangsters running around in fancy dress yealling "Grim Reaper in da hood!"

I guess i'd actually go to the gym in the morning, rather than look at the alarm clock see 5.30 am and think well .... that.
