Runescaperocks42
Hey guys, I posted a thing on Craigslist.org (kind of like eBay, but different) saying that I was selling my Nintendo Wii and other stuff for $300, then this guy e-mails me (fyi, craigslist uses a system where the person wanting to buy the thing emails you) and this is what he says: Hello , Thank you for your swift response.I am very much interested in the Nintendo Wii Console. I will be willing to offer you additional $100 to secure the Nintendo Wii. I will be sending you a US cashier check of $1100 which i will write payable to your name and which is cashable in your bank. I am sending you that much money because i will be out of the country very soon and i wont be back till a months time. Deduct the charges for the item which is $400 and have the balance sent to my mover who will be responsible to the shipment of the item. So as soon as you receive the cashier's check, take it to the bank and cash it, deduct the payment for the item - $400 and other western union charges, then you can send the balance down to my shipper through western union money transfer so that he can make neccessary arrangement concerning the shippment to Decatur, Georgia. Send me your full name, address and cell phone number so that i can write the check payable to your name. The payment will be mailed to you as soon as possible by the fedex. I hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Cheers James It sounds very much like a scam, but I wasn't really sure, and didn't want to turn down a great deal  And he says "Thank you for your swift response" because he sent me an e-mail before just saying he was interested, and I replied confirming he actually wanted to buy it. Nom
As a general rule of thumb, I would regard anything giving you complicated intructions like that as a scam.

I have no idea, I replied saying "I don't understand what your saying. Can't you just send me $400 over Paypal?"
IGoddessI
Generally when something is too good to be true I look the other way and keep walking. Sounds too suss to me. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. superson
Saw something like this earlier on *StumbleUpon* *points at thread*, about a guy who caught a scam, which sounded remarkably like this. The check will bounce, you'll lose your Wii.. Although that guy got his money back because he pretended the be the Russian Mafia... [/tangent] In Soviet Russia, glass eats OTers. Barihawk
Ok, he asked for your cell phone number, why would he need that to send a cashier's check? All you need for a cashier's check is a name, no matter the amount (I have been given several very large ones this year, so I know them intimately). It's just a guy trying to sell your address and phone number to advertisements. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Bloodredsword
Its fake...when I sold my psp on CL I got about 20 of those scam messages a day. NEVER except anything but cash on CL. Thats my advice :) There ARE ways to be scammed over paypal. So honestly try as hard as possible to get cash. Also if the person has broken english in his message(not trying to be racist) its probably a scam. Heres a funny story: about 30% of scam messages will be asking you to ship your product to nigeria or something like that. Its pretty sad  Btw do you live in the bay area? Where? I live in san jose area :) Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board!

fgfuyfyuiuy0
still don't get what the message means.... anyone who is saying this is a scam wanna enlighten us? alan already said it, the check will bounce and you'll already have lost your wii, and probably the extra money he wants you to send him in return. or could it be also that his intentions are that the check bounces, the Wii was sent, and you basically sent your own money, which was supposed to be his. Translation: You give him Wii, his money back, and $400. Wouldn't the bank then go after Runescaperocks42 if he doesn't have the money in his account that he gave to the guy, in turn, messing up Runescaperocks42 even more? So, I wouldn;t trust anything, but cash or paypal, which even then they can screw you over too. See, when I sell anything on Craig's List, I only have it so people where I live can come buy it from me. I tell them the price of something I am selling (Like the t.v. I sold 6-7 months ago) and I have them drive to my house, pay with cash, and pick it up. That's what I've always done. You should think about it. I <3 Gears of War 2. DaN
SCAM 98% probability. As a general rule never touch anything to do with Western Union. Sounds to me like an attempt to launder money. Im not 100% certain how its being worked but noone with even half a brain would even answer a request like that. ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
llcoolguy972
It sounds to me like he's sending you $1100 and asking you to send back $700. If that's the case, it's definitely a scam. After you send the money, you'll find out the check was fake, and you'll be out $400. This thing happens a lot on eBay. ;)
warren211
He's giving you way too complicated instructions. ok go there, switch the money, put some there, keep some here, send the item here, contact me, gimme your cell, send the money here and ill give you it there, and the transaction is finished. and besides, the offer seems a bit too good to be true. i think yoy should skip this buyer. whether or not hes a scammer, he's also purposely making your life harder with all the check transactions. skip him and find a buyer who can send you the money in one transaction. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Bubsa
All that's missing, really, is the mention of an African Prince. Definite scam, mate.
