Is runescape really getting bigger?

As you know, Jagex takes pride in runescape growing and i fully support that but are more people really joing runescape?

 

 

 

Runescape has over 1million accounts regisatered (correct me if im wrong) but are they actually more people? Most people now have atleast 2 accounts (1 pure and 1 main) but some people have more

 

 

 

i have 4 or so accounts (1 main, 1 rune pure, 2 pures, 1 tanker (using this now) and 1 skiller

 

 

 

also, think of all the bots...some people have up to 10 bots!

 

 

 

so, are there more people playing runescape or are people just making more then 1 account?

It gets bigger because people like it, tell their friends, most of them like, tell other friends etc. Oh and there a 1 million+ members, i think there are over 8 million f2p accounts though. But how many are actually players and how many are macros is debatable.

the number is actually over 10 million, and yes, they are all unique accounts. This means that there are 10 million account on separate ip addresses logging in at least once a week.

oh..i thought jagex just judged number of accounts by how many acounts have been created, not by IP adresses...

the game, has over 5.4 million active players. These players have logged-in in the last 2 weeks. RuneScape.com has over 10 million unique users a month, according to Media Metrix.

 

 

 

And at last count 1million members, to be honest we have no way of telling if it's growing or not..... obviousally it has to slow down at some point and it;'s defiantly not increasing at the rate it previousally did.

The only real way of telling if runescape is growing or declining is to keep track of how many are logged in at various times throughout the day.

 

 

 

 

 

the best way to do this is to keep track at 6 hour intervals starting at -0+ gmt an then go from there. I expect to get any real idea of the numbers you real have to keep track at least 3 or 4 months on a daily basis.

First of all, there are one million members, not one million players.

 

 

 

Second, who cares if the actual amount of people isn't growing? Jagex is making more money, that's the only thing that matters to them.

Of course its getting bigger although there are a lot of autoers and multiple accounts.

It's growing for sure but the main growth is pures, skillers, and macros.

I'm not too sure, but for a while the peek number of people logged in at once was rising rapidly, and they were introducing more servers by the truckloads.

 

 

 

But for the past while I haven't noticed that peek number increase, nor have I seen any new servers being added so that leads me to believe that Runescape player growth is pretty stagnant at the minute.

Yup they send J mods to mass ban in members world atleast. Not sure of 2p.

True people create more then 1 acc but as the first poster said, friends tell friends.(if your from the same part of NJ as me), EX: I went to Willowbrook and sat in the food court with my friends and all I heard was this one guy tell another guy about RS and the other guy said cool he'll try it out then the first guy leaves and 3 other people come and the second guy tells the three and they say they'd try it, as I said friends tell friends.

And friends tell friends to ditch RS and go to WOW too. And friends tell friends to stop playing RS because it's a nerdy game. There's two sides to that coin. Granted word of mouth is probably one of the main contributors to the game's growth, I do think the rate of people playing and joining has dropped a lot. I read some numbers awhile ago backing this up but forgot what they were. It's pretty obvious though, since peak numbers have stopped raising for a long time now.

Jagex said something about it on their site(I think) Last time I checked it was 10M active users for the month of August

Of course RuneScape is getting larger, RuneScape hasn't even hit its peak yet. Even if by 1000ish players by day. But you do lose 200 players a day due to banning/quitting/other variables, only guessing.

 

 

 

RuneScape will continue to grow until Jagex takes away that addictive aspect of RuneScape. #-o

When you condiser that in its early stages RS had under 500 people playing and now has well over 200k during peak hours, yes I believe you can consider that growing.

I believe RS will hit its peak some time early next year. Because of the limitations of the combat system (99 HP and nothing that actually reduces the amount of potential damage incurred) Jagex has backed themselves into a corner. If one can wield something as powerful as the Godsword at 75 attack, what is there at 80 or 85 attack? It'd be asinine to create something stronger than the Godsword, so that really leaves nowhere to expand. Also, combined with the undefeatable macro problem, Jagex just can't save this game. I give it another two or three years before Jagex starts losing more people than they gain.

but have you considered that the amount was at over 200k for over a year?

On 200k players, a lot were macroers, now they are hitting the macroers, so that's normal that it lowered a bit, but it's gonna come back there in some time now..

Yes, RS is getting bigger. But not as fast as you might think, because of all the boots, pures and skillers. But sure it grows!

I'd be interested to see a monthly report from jagex on the number of banned accounts, new members, new accounts, most and least players online etc

That is no problem, players will just have to ditch the pking rules and start using protection prayers. Sara brews were a problem earlier because a pker was 'impossible' to defeat if he had a full inventory of sara brews with him. Now we have the godsword to help kill them, though even the godsword isn't that much better (vs whip+shield)
