Assist System.

What do you think of it? I think it takes away the part of actually using YOUR skills to make something.

I think this should not have been implemented, also, they could lay off the updates, I think RS is fine the way it is.

What do you think?

Except for a couple of loopholes that need to be plugged -- like the guild thing -- it doesn't let anyone do anything they couldn't do before.

This is all assuming that, before the update, it wasn't possible to get the benefits of these skills. That isn't the case at all.

Plenty of 99 smiths, constructors or crafters would use their skills to help other people, but it was done through trading. That was trust trading, and obviously people abused it and so what did jagex do? They created a system that gives the EXACT same results with only one difference: you don't need to trust the person with an item. So now I can offer/receive services without the whole "trust issue"

If you plan on using another person's skills to cut mage trees or mine, that's equivalent to them cutting the trees and giving you the logs. They have to remain motionless with an inventory open while you cut the trees.

The farming assist is as if you gave a friend seeds and promised to get some crops in return.

Basically, nothing new can be exploited now, and no skills have been rendered useless which is the majority of people's concerns.

I'm dissapointed. I had hoped for an assist system office where you go and check the name of people who list themselves to willingly help others, that way we wouldn't need to find people again. Instead, we still got to find a person willing to do it, the only difference is that we can't get scammed from items... pfff...

I noticed that there was a Assist Skill in Magic, does this mean that our lvl 3 noobs can "borrow" our mage level for the wilderness

They specifically made many limitations to stop people from borrowing skills like that.

There's a fine line between undermining a players' skills and extending another players' skills to someone else (i.e. friend). Jagex hasn't crossed it yet.

All this update really did was give players a chance to share skills without exchanging items, which, in essence, hasn't changed since classic. Personally, my skills are rather decent in the sense that I can almost make everything I need (with the exception on Rune), and on that rare occasion I'll need a friend's help to make a Fury/Dragonstone Amulet/etc.

It doesn't undermine my efforts as a skiller; anyone and everyone could "lend their friends' abilities" for a bit, but that came with the risk that your "friend" wouldn't be quite as friendly as you'd thought, and you'd lose your stuff. With this system, that risk is virtually eliminated.

By the way, you've got to stop fearing change. The entire freaking world is changing, but you're not going to stop that. This game will always change, so no need to throw a hissy fit when it keeps on doin' what it's doin'.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

I don't think so. It's just a anti-scam version of giving favour to fellow players really. For the mining/fishing/wc issue, I don't see any problem with it since the higher lvl has to agree to mine and give the ores to the assisted, which high chances he/she probably won't agree to it.

The problem now is the new spawn of beggars that will harass the players with high skills.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

This update changed very little, as 95% of people would rather catch their own sharks than have someone else do it for them, as by doing it themselves, they receive both the exp and the resource. However, this update seems to have encouraged begging and made it seem like an acceptable practice, so now many high levels are being constantly harassed by noobs to "assist plz."

I was imagining it was going to be something much different. I don't like what it turned out to be instead. Just a way to be assisted without the dangers of being swindled. It isn't of any use to older players, who already know better than trading with untrustworthy individuals.

I only have one problem with it: You can be tricked into wasting your time and not getting any experience in return. Like if someone borrows your skills and gain more willows per cut, but you find that they had 30 woodcutting anyway (obviously you get no exp then)

Without this flaw i'd be happy sith it...

It's not hurting anyone...

So why not have it? May come in handy someday. Everyone needs a little help.

Give a little bit.

Give a little bit of your 99 crafting to me...

Give a little bit...

Give a little bit of your 99 Magic to me...

It's just an anti-scam update to stop people getting tricked by things such as "Cutting all gems for free" and stuff like that. That is pretty much what it is and that is also pretty much what JaGex wanted it to be. I think it's good :).

The only thing I'm a bit odd about is the fact this will not encourage people to level the skills themselves. They will just focus on using other players to get things done. What happened to being self sufficient?

self-sufficiency = inefficient.

Do what you are best at doing and use that to pay for stuff that other people are best at doing. Self-sufficiency, despite being fun, is a waste of time

Also, this update does not create any sort of incentive not to level the skill because the exact same things are available now, the only difference is that it's scam-proof.

I guess you are right, however with the risk involved previously there was still encouragement to do things yourself safely. Now that is gone. I like the fact i can help others out, but i do think each player should only be able to request assistant so many times in a 24 hour period.

Well it looks like jagex was thinking of you when they made the system because you can only gain 30k exp in a period of 24 hours AND once the 30k exp is obtained, you cannot offer to assist. The assist is really for those 1-time things.

Honestly, how often can you see yourself using the system. Not much right? Unless your a fury crafter then that'll be the most likely response. The fact is all the people whining will most likely use the system rarely if at all.

30k xp is alot more than people give credit for, you can do hundreds of requests so its still very reasonable.
