I just found out today that my lit teacher, is a peta freak. Like big time.

 

 

 

She spent like a quarter of the class trying to get her smartboard to work, and none of us had any idea why. She ended up showing us the meet you meat thing, and then passing around go-vegan pamphlets. We weren't talking about persuasive writing, or bias, or anything that I thought she'd pop out and be like "Can anyone tell me why this would be an example of persuasive writing?" Noooooo...She just wanted to share this with us. I literally blew up at her :evil:

 

 

 

I started talking about how they take this kind of stuff too far, and that they need to reexamine their priorities, et cetera. And she comes back at me an is like, "Well, some catholics blow up abortion clinics in the name of god to save unborn babies. And you should stop contesting their right to free speech." and I'm like wth!? That's religious radicalism. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ANIMAL ACTIVISTS AND PROPAGANDA! I CAN BLINDLY ACCUSE PETA OF FUNDING TERRORISTS, BUT DO EITHER OF US HAVE ANY SOURCES AT HAND? AND I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY PUBLISH, THEY HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, AS DO I, I'M NOT SAYING THEY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO PUBLISH CRAP, I'M BASHING THE ORGANIZATION AS A WHOLE!

 

I was interrupted and she passed out comics (apparently they've gone forward with the you're mommy kills animals comics, we're now on flesh is for zombies)

 

 

 

So, yeah. I'm pretty pissed. How do you deal with people like that?

Don't let her push her values on you, just try to ignore her.

The most dissapointing thing is that she's your teacher. Sure, if it's just some schmuck prosthelytizing to you when you walk down the street, you can deal with that, but a teacher? They have a job and a duty of care not to do stuff like that. I'm really dissapointed in stuff like this. Keep the schools for learning and the PETA rallies for animal rights propoganda.

What she's doing doesn't sound right. Just teach and lesson and leave your personall passions out of the classroom.

I don't feel particularly "terrorized" by PETA, what they're doing is crimes against mink farmers, etc... By releasing the animals, or throwing ink on people's furs etc.

If a few disgruntled members of the organisation do extremist stuff without even any kind of approval from other members, they are acting on their own.

 

 

 

I disagree with PETA on nearly every issue. But irrationally marking them as terrorists is propaganda agaisnt them.

 

 

 

The only "link" to illegal activity I saw was a $1.5k donation to "ELF" (which apparently blows up facilities where animals are tested or tortured with medical drugs, but does not cause human casualties).

 

 

 

Barely even worth mentioning, heck, the US government gave over $2 billion in money and weapons to the Taleban in the 1980's to fight russians in Afghanistan, and even they struggled with financial problems. Now USA calls them terrorists (even though they still have weapons and missiles funded by US taxpayers)

 

 

 

$1.5k is less than the price of a proper laptop.. You can hardly make a single working explosive with that which would blow up an entire facility.

I posted the above while you were editing, Bluelancer. I agree, it's drawing a long bow to say they fund terrorism because of a $1500 donation but of course I don't agree with such an action and they'll have to wear whatever bad publicity they get/got from it.

I wasn't even defending PETA, because frankly I hate the attitudes of the members in it that make publicity stunts and ruin people's clothing to prove a point, and how they feel superior to anyone who even dares think about meat.

Reminds me of a documentary, Israeli defence force soldiers were arresting palestinians accused of "terrorism", while all they did was pay like $100 a month for the Hamas group (which is in power at least in Gaza now) to protect their home. Is that grounds to call those ordinary people 'terrorists' too and kill them?

My politics teacher was a stonewall communist, she probably grew up in the gulags or something because she constantly made references to communism and challenged me about my ideas on politics. It was funny for a while, and still is. :wink:

 

 

 

Be pleased that your teacher has put an effort into his/her class, its better than one who couldn't care less.

I think you can actually have words about that with your headteacher. One of my old teachers nearly got fired for saying eating pork is wrong, because eating pig is the same as eating all the crap they feed pigs. She was racist too, she sat all the black/asian/etc kids on one table and treated them all like royalty and treated all the white people in the class like crap! hahah

If someone tried this in my school (right in the middle of Deer Season Capitol of the World, WV), she'd be either laughed out of the state or tied down and forced to eat as much venison as can be stuffed in her gut.
