Ezz Posted November 18, 2007 Share Posted November 18, 2007 I actually like the RS graphics a bit, they kind of grow on you :P But I think that there are 3 things that desperately need updating: our avatars, Tutorial Island (so that people don't constantly quit after 3 minutes of playing) and trees. But it's a characteristic of runescape, it's got great gameplay but awful graphics and it's been like that for the past 5-6 years. If they changed it I'd give up I think. I love the simplistic side of runescape graphics and I'll think other people will agree it's what makes it such a good game where people stick at it because it's not just the glitzy wonderful graphics that drag people into the game and then give up after a while 'cause they realise the gameplay is shocking. Now you might ask, if Java is bad, why would Jagex program in it? Java allows for RS to run on all sorts of computers, from old to new. This also means more RS players :D So bad graphics are inherent to RS... He's right you know. What's the percentage of the population who have 1 gigabyte of RAM or more? Tell me. Is there a much greater percentage? Or is there a smaller percentage of players with 1 gigabyte of RAM or more. That's what graphics like that REQUIRE if you didn't notice.. Also, the membership fee will go up from $5 U.S.D per month to at least $15-$20 a month. It will be the same as World of Warcraft basically. Now it jagex ran Runescape through a downloadable client that was free to download from the runescape site, then we could really do something :D . They would no longer be using Java, but they would have to basically redo the game. It's always just- go to some guy, he tells you to kill some things. You kill them, go back and get a reward. Then after that, you go kill some more stuff, and maybe get another quest that tells you to go kill some more stuff! I really could care less what the graphics are like, as long as the gameplay is good, and thats what made me come back to rs (I still do play WoW some though). And if they brought back rsc, I'd totally go play that instead, because the gameplay is 10 times better (in my opinion) than rs2. Heres one way I look at it. Ok, you've played PAC-MAN right? Well thats a great game. Does it have good graphics? No... The graphics are absolutely horrid, but tons of people still play it, because the gameplay is great, and its a classic game. The reason the graphics are sub-standard compared to other games out on the market is down to the fact that Jagex are keeping the clients total size down. They say you can fit the whole client, models, image everything on to one floppy disc. This is necessary to keep RuneScape downloading quickly and running smoothly with it's software renderer. They're using a software renderer to make RuneScape as compatible as possible with all sorts of computers. Stop blaming the language for the graphics. I really could care less Couldn't. Back up your claims too, did Jagex ever come up with Java as a limitation to the RS graphics? Here is Wurm Online : It has graphics that would make WoW ashamed of itself, allows the player to change absolutely every part of the game (from making houses, roads to building towns castles mountains forests. If you want good graphics buy a PS3 or some top of the line $3000 PC and get corresponding games. I for one don't care much about graphics at all. I'm sure their are many like me. I actually think that the lower quality graphics are a very strong point of runescape. It allows for much better development of content and gameplay. Two aspects which I find that are far more important than the looks of the game in the long run. A game you are going to play for more than a year will need much more than just some fancy graphics to keep you excited. If you feel that graphics are important to you and you think that other games have better graphics than play those games. But apparently, something besides the graphics have grasped you to runescape. One of the charms of RS is you can play it on pretty much any computer with java installed. Sorry for being blunt but anyone who says java isn't capable of producing high-end gfx probably doesn't know anything about java or programming for that matter. Why would a company built around a certain type of game that they are the best in the world at just to get better graphics? It would waste so much time, and it would be horrible as everyone who could download it would play other downloadable games. The great thing about RS is its acessibility. Also, I kind of like the graphics. The word "bad" is just opinionated. I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. It goes with the chracter of the game. If you remove those style of graphics then you remove the whole essence of the game.
