November 27, 200718 yr There have been many threads created on the General Discussion Forum about the Grand Exchange, so I felt that the Debate Club also needed one to engage in higher-order processes of thought. It would be more interesting with serious debaters joining into the fracas over this controversial issue. I personally think that Jagex is controlling the prices of commodities (as what many people in the General Discussion Forum have been lamenting about) due to the 5% margin off the market price you can buy or sell items for. It is also quite outlandish that Jagex creates such a huge area just purely meant for the Exchange. Personally, I had expected the Exchange to actually fit in with the actual city of Varrock itself, not have its own area jutting out from the city walls. People have also complained about the higher incidence of randoms while being in the Exchange area. The Grand Exchange: A Friend or Foe? Discuss. Feel free to express your own opinions in any manner. November 27, 200718 yr I'm fine with it. You can still merch by buying and selling. People are whining about how merchanting got SO hard, but I think otherwise. I like the GE because when I first heard of it I thought I would have to wade through bronze swords, wooden shields, etc. Friend.
November 27, 200718 yr I love this update. GJ jagex. =D> Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.
November 28, 200718 yr It is really probably the best updated I'VE ever seen. Personally, I love it. To those who call themselves merchanters, you should realize how much this helps you. Buy low and sell high, without ever even typing a single character. Today I bought 100 Grimy Ranarr's at 7.3k Ea and sold the prayer pots for 8.5k ea. Great profit, great exp, and an overall great update.
November 28, 200718 yr Personally, I think that the GE is both good and bad. Its good because it makes buying and selling easier, as it incorporates offers from all the servers and eliminates the need for standing around shouting the same things over and over.(SELLING SARA PAGE 70K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Its bad however for the fact that one someone writes a bot script for it, macroers will be able to much more easily sell their macroed stuff. im assuming that jagex is watching all the trades that take place now to double check for this type of stuff, and soon we shall see a rash of "OMG JAGEX BANNED ME FOR USING THE GE!" rants. So yeah, Im calling both friend and foe for this one. I couldn't care less if he was Andrew Gower himself, I just don't like arrogant smegheads. *in the voice of the comic book guy from the simpsons* best. quote. EVER!
November 28, 200718 yr I would say that the Grand Exchange is definitely a big step forward in the right direction for this game. Although the items I've sold there have been sold for less than what I could reasonably charge in the traditional bank sale/forums posting method, its a much better alternative because it frees up a large amount of time so I can get on with the task in hand. I don't think this is going to 'kill' successful and skilled merchants because of the margins in the price in the GE markets and what can be achieved in bank sales and forum posts. Adding a bank pin screen to collecting items/money would be a welcome update though. "Boy, sure would be nice to have some grenades, don't you think you think?"
November 28, 200718 yr A very good update. It could be better if they would go to +-10% instead of +-5%. Also a pin for getting your items and money is needed very much. Just think if you put your santa hat up for sale, logged of and went to bed got up the next morning to find that your santa had sold but you lost your 22+mil because someone logged in and retrieved your money. 91% percent of the people polled said they were liers. The other 9% lied to us.
November 28, 200718 yr Im addicted, I quit WoW for RS again when i saw it. in the first ten minutes i had spent all my money on herblore supplies and treasure trail items
November 28, 200718 yr Friend. I finally buy from and sell to people again. Being able to find what I need on any world and not having to switch is most convenient.
November 28, 200718 yr Most cases when buying items you buy them for the market price, this stops people selling for stupid prices a lot so safeguards the seller and doesn't allow the buyer to get ripped off. The prices are changing (?) so the market price isn't always the same :). Friend. Proud Retired Council of The GladiatiorzClick here for our website - 110+ F2P Combat Requirements
November 28, 200718 yr I think the main issue is the automated price change every day. Everything has dropped 400gp+ things keep going down prices are changing and soon enough it will not be worth it to buy from other players. Players will not buy for more if they can get in the GE. For this to be truly effective they may need to remove the automated pricing. Unfortunately otherwise it will wreck the economy or put it into such a bad state. November 28, 200718 yr I think the main issue is the automated price change every day. Everything has dropped 400gp+ things keep going down prices are changing and soon enough it will not be worth it to buy from other players. I disagree. The prices that are well reflected in GE have not moved by very much at all. I also don't think think that's a logical conclusions. If price falls, I'll be much more willing to buy more of the stuff. Therefore, if the price falls, it will be more worth it to buy from other players. Not less. Players will not buy for more if they can get in the GE. For this to be truly effective they may need to remove the automated pricing. Unfortunately otherwise it will wreck the economy or put it into such a bad state. The limitation only prevents the sharp changes in price. What you say here would be true if it wasn't for the fact that GE was completely optional, which makes all the difference. Now, since GE is completely optional, then the price reflected by GE is an artificial representation of what the price could be. The real price is determined by supply and demand. If the price determined by the supply and demand doesn't meet the price at GE, then the item will not (or rarely) be sold at GE therefore no damage is done to the economy. 76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007 Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! November 29, 200718 yr in the last 3 days, I've done enough buying and selling to fill 8 hours with the old way. Took me about 20 minutes. Friend, once things even out a bit it will be an even bigger friend.
November 29, 200718 yr GE is generally friendly Pro: Able to buy/ sell items that were tricky to buy/ sell in the past Fast transaction  thus more gaming time \ No more pming and "where to meet?" No more browsing the forum No more typing "Buying blah blah OR selling blah blah" Cons: People selling for the lower range of price, making it too competitve Dramatic daily changes (ex. I bought black mask yesterday for 450k, now the maximum is ~425k) I agree its an awesome update regardless of the cons, so again gj Jagex. Total Level 2247- 11x 99s All Combat Skills, Slayer, Summoning, Woodcutting, Herblore
November 29, 200718 yr i think the update is great i just sold 50 pairs of mith boots in 2 days, if i had been selling them all day for those 2 days i doubt i would've sold over 10 pairs Ge update 10/10
November 29, 200718 yr I like this update a lot. I mostly sell rather than buy stuff and for my pure, I managed to sell 1k cowhides and studded chaps (g) in a blink. The ironic thing about some stuff I sold there was that it took longer buying them than selling them at ge. The best thing I like about ge is if you are buying/selling something on ge, you can set it up and if you log, you won't have to stand somewhere typing the same words over and over again, hoping that you won't use an auto-typer. The problems with GE is the prices change many times. But hey, its a better economy at least (except for mages, yew longs, etc. Hopefully, it will drop after people don't go wild over them) We should euthanize anyone who lacks the capability to contribute to society in any way. Please don't elect this man for president in 2012
December 1, 200718 yr This is an over all good update. It helps people get (most) things that they need. Some of the prices are a bit off still (like balls of wool for 4 gp) Its still glitchy some times but thats expected with a large update. Anywho good update again.
December 3, 200718 yr For me it's a big friend. I always searched for hours to just get some cheap saradomin armor. Now it's done very smoot without scams, endless typing of "white:buying saradomin armor- armadyl " And I don't the the price change is that huge, the price is determined by supply and demmand. Not everyone wants to sell his material for a low price so the prices of GE are allmost the same as on the "real" market.
January 15, 200818 yr i think the exchange is helpful when u want something but i dont like how the prices are controlled... I don't like fun, it upsets me.-- Marilyn Manson
January 16, 200818 yr I am a blue mask owner. Two of them. I am currently worshipping the GE \ \ \ It creates demand for certain items and you defenitely know whether prices are going up or down. Watch...santas will go up to 20mil before demand is lowered. But then again, for other items like lobsters...it is useless. Jagex will not lower the price from 201 ea. Thats being communist right there. People are selling for min price so the avg price should go down. Not stay the same. I mean that kind of price control is terrible IMO. 100% F2P85 Mining achieved on Dec 4, 200785 Smithing achieved on May 28, 2009
January 16, 200818 yr I like the GE update:- - 1 place to find everything, rather than having to go to several shops, worlds to by from individuals etc - I can buy 20k coal in no time - Prices have gone down ~25% on some (maybe all, but I don't use addy/rune) ores - I can sell bars and buy back ores in <5 minutes, when before it could take hours to find buyers. I guess the qualms are that some prices have gone down alot, but frankly I don't really have that much involvement in the primary industries (getting ores/logs) but rather secondary :D (using the products to create new objects) [bleep] OFF HOW ARE U SO [bleep]ING LUCKY U PIECE OF [bleep]ING SHIT [bleep] [bleep] [wagon] MUNCHER
