justeroniehh
i have to do an egg drop competition for science project and i'd love to be first place :-k i just have no ideas, besides a container of the egg and home ballistics gel lol. the rules are.. no bigger than 30cm by 30cm any weight but suggest little weight the drop is like 40ft. nothing on the outside so, does anybody have past experiences with this? like have you seen somebody have a wonderful winning egg container? did you? please post thanks! I'd love a higher grade :XD:
rushrock
Tape the egg to a cluster of marshmallows starting with the small ones, surround that with more small marshmallows, and then step it up a notch and surround the interior of the shoebox (I assume that's the container the egg is going to be in) with the giant marshmallows. It works like a charm and leaves for a tasty snack afterwards. :)
Errdoth
It works like a charm and leaves for a tasty snack afterwards. :) Nothing better than eggy marshmellows Duct tape ball around the egg, packing peanuts, and a shoe box. Lenin64
Go with the balistics gel, wrapped in duct tape and stuck with marhsmallows. You'll totally win. \ Command the Murderous Chalices! Necromagus
Nest the egg inside a piece of Styrofoam shaped like an Archimedes screw, and make sure it's at least twice as wide as it is tall. This should create a spiraling/gliding motion that will greatly reduce the rate of acceleration. pryomancer
Glue high tortion springs to each end and watch that egg go into orbit. 8-)
Lenin64
Wait, even better: Put the egg in a ball of shock-absorbers, held in place in the center by a number of bands , kind of like a circle with lines running through the center. Or just wrap it in a very thick layer of Tungsten. Surrounded by marshmallows, of course Command the Murderous Chalices! That sounds so simple, yet it just might work :-k Next time I'm in an egg-drop competition (I've only done 1 in my life lol), I'll use the method! @OP: do what errdoth said. amazizing333
i had the same test, my group came in first place :-w but we had a specific material list, do you have something like that? i mean if you could use anything you wanted to, you could just use all the crazy ideas that were posted above me :XD: (jk) i don't really remember it but we had popsickle (sp?) sticks, we made like a wrestling ring around it, used q tips as the "ropes" of the ring, for the "floor", we but LOTS of rubber bands underneath the egg to make it bounce and act as shock absorbers, we had four corks in the corners as extra shock asorbers, and a hankercheif over the egg, tied down by a big rubber band around it so it doesn't fly off when it flies, the hanky was there so it didn't bounce out when it landed. probably won't work for you because ours was like a 20 ft drop... and we had a specific materials list... if we are talking about anything being used, heres my idea: wrap some bouncy/ protective/ shock absorbing stuff on it, wrap it tightly around a rocket with duct tape (make sure it doesn't fall off when it blasts off), launch the sucker off the 40ft drop place, and hope the parachute works on the rocket... :XD:
xvillexvalox
put it in a twinkie with a makeshift parachute around it [/full house] though, stuffing it in a twinkie with various other materials around it seems like a good idea.
Riku3220
with a simple cup, cotton balls, about 10 paperclips, 2 medium lenth strings, a few rubber bands, and a walmart bag you've got yourself a no chance to escape parachute. it worked from a 30 foot drop :D make a soft floor of cotton balls in the cup put the egg in and surrond it by cottons balls!!! as many cotton balls as you can fit. you then take your rubber bands and wrap them around so that its partially covers the top. make two chains of paper clips and attach those to opposite site of the rubber bands. tie each string to the other two sides of the rubber band and proceed ti attach the strings and paperclip chains to the malmart bag. try to poke small toothpick sized holes into the top of the bag. now what you have wont soar into the sky but it wont fplummet to the ground like an asteroid entering jupiter atmosphere either

fgfuyfyuiuy0
I actually won first place with mine. Rules were the same, but we could put stuff on the outside. Ok, first, get a cardboard sheet that has this Styrofoam stuff squished between the two boards. Cut out 6 equal sides. Hot glue gun 5 of the boards to form a cube with one of the walls missing (This one is for later). Now, get 4 fishing hooks and a plastic sandwich bag. Punch the four hooks onto the bag like so: Hot glue gun the 3 on the sides, not the top one, to the bag so they don't rip out (Mine did, but the egg survived). Hot glue gun all 4 strings, coming off the hooks, to 4 sides of the box. Now, bring the glue gun to school with you with the 6th piece still off. Supposing they give the egg to you at school, because mine did, stick the egg in the bag. Seal it. Hot glue gun the hook at the top of the bag then put on the sixth piece to the box. It is now Foogey safe! Steps drawn out I drew the steps in MSPaint to give you an idea. Mine had cotton balls on the outside, but this should still work. I <3 Gears of War 2. Add me on Xbox Live and mention you are from Tif :D
13_19_16
Here's what I did for my egg drop project: [*:3hoi0gwh]Hollow out a foam sphere (not sure of the dimensions, I think it was about 5 cm in diameter) just enough that the egg fit exactly inside. [*:3hoi0gwh]Place the egg in the sphere and tape it shut. [*:3hoi0gwh]Put the sphere in a bag of oatmeal (I used about 1500 mL for a similar drop, but that was way more than I needed - half of that would have probably sufficed). If you can, try to weaken the bag before the drop (I made my own out of plastic wrap, to ensure it would be weak). If the bag breaks when it hits the ground, all of the contents scatter out, which helps reduce the impact. I concede that this isn't a lightweight project, but it's surprisingly effective at protecting the egg. It's also really simple to make (it takes about 5-10 minutes, depending on how quickly you hollow out the foam sphere). Maybe you could use it if you need a project the night before the drop. :P Remember, whatever project you do, thouroughly test it before the drop! walka92
if your able to, get some string just shorter than the drop, and tie it to the egg. lower it over and drop it about 5cm also, cover it in something soft like a few marshallows I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come
Kashi
This diagram should explain everything. Leaving your egg only slightly cracked, earning you a C+ or maybe even a B-!
