Read the posts in Duke Freedom's thread, and you'll see that jagex is going great lengths in order to fix prices and ensure that there is enough supply...

Actually, if they "legalised" it (which is only possible if Jagex sold the geepee themselves) they'd have the put in man hours after it... Right now they're done... Its implementing the trade rule, and voila... RWT gone, players gone, game gone...

Hm. There are many ways of "legalizing" RWT, plenty of them don't necessarily include Jagex selling gold themselves, but pretty much all of them allow Jagex take a piece of the cake somehow. The actual mechanics don't really matter for the discussion here though... Fact is that Jagex could have developped a completely working RWT allowed system in the matter of just a few months, whereas they have now spent one and a half year working on tons of controversial and strongly disliked changes that don't even work correctly and create a huge uproar in the game's community.

  • Author

They have looked in taking a cut in allowing RWT (or so they claim, I'm sceptic about everything now), but it wouldnt work because there'd always be people trying to get out of the developper cut...

But if they eased up on the trading restrictions on all fronts (GEX percentage, 3k limit, price manipulation, price ceilings and floors and what not), it'd still be hard to transfer any sizable ammount of cash... Especially so if you have a requirement, as suggested, of being friends for a certain ammount of time, or in someone's clan for a good while (the limit could increase incrementally overtime)...

It will still be worthless for RWT's to exploit in this game, especially if Jagex sold their own geepee at like $5 per 1m (rates of geepee increased to $15 per 1m by now as far as I udnerstand it)...

Then still for all of this to work, 6 for p2p, 2 for f2p... Those ammount of slots are just too little indeed to work properly... On top of that comes Jagex' obvious price manipulation, and entering items into the GEX at will...

I suppose its some comfort that jagex aren't selling RS gold for real currency. But at the other end the regulation of trades, and limiting the players too the GE is extremly uhhh limiting?

...Do you even know what Communism IS? It would be Communism if, say, the grand exchange took the profits from everything sold in it and distributed it equally no matter what you had sold. However, the current grand exchange system has NOTHING TO DO with Communism. Your math parts are correct, but I fail to see at all how that means it's Communist.

Technically its not communism, but goverment controlled - evil economies tend to remind people of communism.

It's not communism.....it's absolutism :ohnoes:

Well since Runescape isn't t really a government, it can't be communism but they really should change that whole page saying Runescape teaches you to interact with friends and such. Now it teaches you how being in a communist government feels like. -.-

You people take Communism as something bad. And what you said is pretty smart but you are wrong. This regime is not communism(nor absolutism as No_99_Melee said) and you should consider reading some articles about it. Try giving it a new name, maybe Jagexism or something like that.

I think JaGeX is doing a good job trying to get rid of Real World Traders and people are way too ungrateful. Instead of whining, complaining and ranting, they should democratically team up and make some suggestions for making these updates better.

I understand that a lot of you didn't care about RWTers, but they were actually violating JaGeX's Rules. In fact, they were selling something that was not their and that is called stealing. Even if they were stealing pixels it was still a theft.

On the second hand, many of you were against RWTers and wanted to get rid of them and now, when the problem is solved, you are complaining.

If you don't like the update, try thinking of a way how to make it better, don't just complain and demand the old RuneScape back. Maybe you don't believe, but JaGeX's intentions were good...

My question to you is, do you really know the definition of Communism? After hearing about all of these Communist nations and the origins (Marxism), I feel you're missing one important part.

Not one of the people involved had a "choice" in the matter. That brings me to the quotes below.

[hide]
And...you're wrong. So wrong in fact it's fairly hilarious.

Jagex, Runescape, and you are the essence of capitalism. Jagex provides a service, IE Runescape. You pay for that service. (Oh, by the way, you don't actually own your own character. Which means nothing BELONGS to you, a point that is important later).

If you like that service, you keep playing. If you do not like that service, you stop paying for it (playing). If you whine and complain about a service you are voluntarily paying for, you are an idiot.

It is NOT in fact a legitimate whine to say "but we put so much work into runescape" because A) You are hopefully paying for the FUN OF PLAYING (a point many seem to miss) and B) Nothing (your character, your items, etc) atcually belongs to you.

So all in all, my point is that you're pretty dumb. It's not like Jagex is tying you down and forcing you to play Runescape. Go to WoW if you dislike things now so much.

[/hide]

They arent forcing me to play runescape no, and yes I CHOOSE to pay for it... However, I purchased a years worth of membership, with a guarantee that the quality of the game would remain constant... It obviously hasnt (and about a few million people agree with me)...

Nothing did I state about Jagex being communist... I stated that they made trading in runescape communist... So thats already 2 mistakes you made...

You then proceed to call me an idiot, just for having a different opinion then you? Go play neopets or something... You mean nothing to me and your words mean nothing to anyone...

First of all, you didn't agree that the quality of the game would remain constant. You agreed to support their game to improve what quality they saw fit to improve. Next, the very fact that you have a choice in the matter means that this isn't any form of "government" except voluntary capitalism. You don't have to play the game, you know.

You say that you didn't state Jagex was communist. Look at your title again and then tell me why someone would think that you think that Jagex is communist.

At any rate, this argument fails since you do have a choice in the matter. If you don't like it, don't play -- if you still want to play, live with it.

I am SICK and TIRED of people misusing the [bleep] term! How many times will I have to repeat myself before you all understand it?! It's not freaking communism, it's Stalinism! Besides, I don;t see the big deal. Just use the GE. What;s wrong with that?

maybe it'd be better if jagex just shut down the sites selling gold, not that hard to think of is it. :-w

sure, there's a lot of them, but they announced that the gold farmers cost them money, so would it cost them much more to employ a few people to go through google search results and copy down the web addresses?

nudist hippy vegan elves who inexplicably wear leather.

I agree with your post that PonP trading is now basically dead and requires immedate focus.

I read a suggestion somewhere that your overall level (be it combat, total level or whatever), should have an impact on the amount you're allowed to deviate from the preset values.

For instance, each combat level gives you a 0.25% variance allowance.... or something along those lines. This would give players who are clearly not bots or goldfarmers the chance to play close to the way the game was before.

I think the communism comparison is harsh however. They're simply controlling prices to ensure that people aren't ripped off and aren't cheating. IRL, you would usually pay say 50p for a pint of milk... you wouldn't expect to find it at 10p and equally would be annoyed if you found some store selling it for 10bucks lol. Yes, this example is extreme, but it's what happens very often on Runescape. This latest control measure helps exclude that effect.

Harrington.gif

Correct. They essentially murdered a VERY unique game economy, something that is truly special. They have killed kindness in the game they were trying to 'save'. The assist system does NOT replace giving out free sets of iron to new players, selling stuff to friends at discount prices, giving gifts and having drop parties among a small group of friends/clanmates. There isn't any room for growth and development in the economy; prices can only change by tiny increments over a VERY long period of time. They killed everything that made Runescape good; the community (bad as it may seem), pking, staking and, really, the second 'M' in MMORPG.

All for the sake of a vendetta.

Personally, I really don't think it was worth it. They destroyed some really awesome stuff, they knocked a chunk out of their profits, they lost hundreds, if not thousands, of long-time players. And they tryed to make us forget by releasing all the stuff about summoning right before they broke the news. -.- Basically: "Guess what Billy? I got you a candy bar at the store!" "Oh, yeah, Umm... I kinda ran over your dog..." "..But I got you candy!"

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

Eh, this is the only way to stop autoers. If they had done this for other reasons, then I would have eaten them, but right now, I really don't care :anxious:

I suppose they could write to the gold-sellers and say "Please stop running your gold-selling business," but that's not very likely to work.

Beyond that, they'd have to prove that the gold-seller was breaking some law, which is tricky given that courts aren't generally interested in enforcing the rules of online games. Then, even if they somehow won the case, they'd have to hope that the website's hosting company and the gold-seller - who might be in a different country - would respect the decision of the court.

Luckily they are going to change how the GE works, as well as how trading is going to work (down with the 3k rule!)...

Actually, while I do like your sig, this is more SOCIALISM than COMMUNISM.

And to the guy that stated Communism will work in theory; And in theory killing everyone on the earth would solve global warming. And has JUST as much possiblity of working in real life as communism.

Communism will never work, because people like to OWN things.

The +-5 percent will stay in place for GE sales.

EXCEPT FOR NEW ITEMS. NEW ITEMS ONLY will be given GENEROUS prices, then allowed to float for a period of time with NO restrictions. So players have the ability to make ALOT of cash on newly introduced items.

From my point of view, it's not communism, it's just a (slightly harsh) Dictatorship.

The sig fails. I read Cyrillic, and many characters, such as those in the word, "free" that you used, are wrong. that word actually "gyaee" Nice try though.
