...not to hard to pick an unoffensive name either  =D>

When Jagex starts to ban people with names like Krazyfaken or Pursesnatcher like the guy above posts, perhaps it is. Add on to that that some people even created those chars before the rule was even in place. Furthermore, it is just plain ridiculous that Jagex considered it normal for so long to ban people - who have played the game for years and spend thousands of hours on it - just because their name is offensive (in Jagex eyes).

There is not ethical, fair or moral about that, and yet Jagex never considered the time people spent on those characters to be worthwhile to solve the issue, which is not difficult at all. That is certainly worrisome, for everyone who plays this game.

i met a guy with an offensive name who was going to be banned. i hope he is.

some of those namers were not offensive, i agree but some were. for example [kitty] crunch w/e is with that? lol its not really all that offensive to me. but i could see some extreme religious people being like pornography!... because reading about non vulgar physical intimacy is pornography

Jagex, thank you so much!! I am sooo happy, you just removed 1 reason I would have quit for!

My noob account, Pursesnatcher was banned for an offensive name. Moved on to Angry Wallet. :P

That's the most stupid ban I heard of.

How about this: I'm offended by the speech line of the Rag & Bone man quest, because the word "s[racist term]" reminds me of a certain word that rhymes with it. Let's ban the person who wrote the quest!

Reminds me when jagex included 'damn' somewhere in a quest, I think it was an examine of some creature (correct me if I'm wrong), which was quickly removed on that same day.

"damn" is still included in some quests. I.E. The Underground Pass. (ex: I threw Iban down the well of the damned)

i agree that pursesnatcher could hardly be considerd offensive by a reasonable person, however I am sure you have seen some names that are way over the limit.....I wont bother to type the ones I have seen, nor do they bother me enough to report them...I just don't think it is to hard to find a non offensive, non suggestive name

What does that have to do with anything? Sure it's easy, but is banning an account the best course of action?

You make it sound like these people DESERVE to be banned.

I agree, they don't deserve to be banned.

By the way, I have encountered some very explicit and funny at the same time.

i wonder if wifebeater wants his old account back?

Would they let zezima change his account name? LarryR?

Intresting. I've not seen Jagex completly change their mind on something before. :o

So haven't I, and I have been around for a pretty long while now. So I agree with that smilie. I'm thoughtful about that solution though...Maybe Jagex will let the players with offensive names change to a new, not offensive, name? I don't know, but it's a way that they could do it.

It's 'I haven't either', just trying to help you out.

On topic: I think Jagex should recreate the filter, and block a lot less words, like 'suck' and '[wagon]'. Name changes wouldn't be a great idea..

This does not suprise me at all, Jagex is really familiar with the way of the weirdo... And if you discover a mistake they make you are not even allowed to tell other players on like forums what they did. I was muted for some time when i "apparently" broke rule 5....

It was a player that was calling me all kinds of names and such, which i will not repeat here, then I said: "It is a shame my moderator friend is not online", "If he was I would let him come here to set you straight"

When i first noticed i was muted for that, and got blackmarked for that, i sended in a request that was instantly denied, then i wrote 2 letters to jagex to tell them they where out of their minds and they should fire the moderator that in the first place approved to mute me.

All I have to say actually, I think that if you ever want to become a Jmod you make a good chance if you are insane, and have a sick mind, and if you have a thing for sadistically periodically annoyance to people....

And its also what pick-pocketers target the most. Seriously, Jagex needs to stop taking stuff as pervertedly as they can. I can see if somebody with the name "everyone f u" <-- I actually saw that one, gets banned. But pursesnatcher.... going a little far there.

And also jagex needs to make it more clear that they do not like having multiple spaces in a name. I made the account 5_____att (5 spaces) and it got banned on Christmas day last year. I had no idea why, and I asked one of my mod friends. They said that Jagex doesn't like multiple spaces in a name. o.O much

But I'm glad they're finally putting this in. I don't think I can get that account back though (it was nubbish anyways  ).

They told me something similar to this a year ago.

I asked a hypothetical question about non-offensive names. Something along the lines of...

"My current character name is not offensive, but what if it became so. For example, a notorious serial killer is caught and his name is Harrington. This means my name would be very offensive... and would I be banned through no fault of my own?"

My reply was very similar to the one you received saying that they were working on something so not to worry about it. They said this in about June last year lol

So what the letter to the topic creator means is, that Jagex is working on making name changes (something a J-mod posted was going to be put into game on RSOF).

The letter instructs the topic creator to return to his "main" char, although the name could be offensive, since they are working on a "new solution".

The new solution pretty obviously being allowing name changes. For those of which it is required, that being players with offensive offensive names.

They are NOT instructing him to return to his offensive named main character, just to ban him. Seems like they are going easy on banning offensive names atm, due to development the possibility to change name, something they previously have not been able to do.

I believe that in the Death to the Dorgeshuun quest, the examine for Zanik originally said "She kicks ham [wagon]."

Like the pentagrams, Rasool, and other various things, the Politically Correct Cult pissed and moaned until Jagex changed it.

I remember that, my friend had a picture of it and posted on my clan site, but I can't find it right now.

Intresting. I've not seen Jagex completly change their mind on something before. :o

How about

"If you transfer all your items over to RuneScape classic, you will NOT be able to transfer them back to Rs2. This item can never ever be undone, so plz don't go back to Classic. PLay rs2 instead!" (ok, i might have exaggerated it)...

1 week later....

"Ok, if anybody on classic wants to xfer back to Rs2 (which is actually played by 99.9999999999999999999999% of normal people, in fact anybody people that play classic are proven to be with no lifes), we are now letting people transfer all their items back to RuneScape 2, which is the latest and greatest game to ever be created. Rs2 > rsc"

(ok, i might have exaggerated it)...

- Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

Were they only sending these messages out to p2p? I had a F2p pker named "Macroer Inc" . I never macroed or really talked on him. (offensively). Yet he was banned for rule 1 without and proof.

I also have the name "Multibot" banned, with no chance of appeal, solely be cause of its name.

I think this is mostly because Jagex doesn't want to take the risk.

Pretty weird you can't even appeal :-k

I'm surprised that no one has brought up the Abyssal Leech's examine information - "This creature really sucks hard." That was one thing that the Gameplay Update guys didn't mention on the front page when they updated...

It's a good thing that Jagex has begun to not be so draconian with their own self-imposed penalties. Let's hope they go through with it.
