January 17, 200818 yr Well, summoning's been out for a day, and we'd like to know how you like it! Go to the main site, and cast your vote, and stick around for the discussion here. ~M
January 17, 200818 yr First post \ . I'm waiting for the rest of summoning to come out before I say anything. (59 poll answers in the time it took MPM to write the forum post and me to answer it :D )
January 17, 200818 yr I don't realy like it; the charms take tons of money and a lot of time to get, the shards are expensive and there realy isn't much rewards(although i loves the combat lvl boost \ )
January 17, 200818 yr The poll didnt update for me :wall: And both the summoning calculator and planner are offline.. How do you make it so the new poll appears? I forgot edit : Nvm just cleaned the cache Lol at all those who answered "Summoning?". They clearly havent been online this week. Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07.
January 17, 200818 yr I absolutely love it. Now they've got me training slayer for charms... I can now train strength, hp, attack, def, slay, AND summoning all in 1!
January 17, 200818 yr its OK, but it takes aton of cash. im gunna wait a few weeks to start training it and take advantage of all the empty training spots :-$
January 17, 200818 yr Well, I don't have to wait for the poll... I imagine a lot of people will like it. I see the word "Pokemon" being thrown about a lot on RSOF, and it seems to be superficially accurate. I suppose there is still a lot of inertia in the Pokemon craze. Personally, I am not seeing how this new skill will fit into my style of play. I have studied the scroll list and I am not seeing a lot there that I would use. Consequently, I am training this to 30 (to get ranked) and then I will leave it to Juna. This is going to end up like Farming - some people will love it and others will hate it. IMO, Runescape is experiencing some serious "feature bloat" right now. A good real-world analogy is Microsoft Excel. Versions 1 & 2 were bug-ridden and had problems, but attracted just enough people to remain viable. Version 3 was the golden version where it suddenly became workable and pleasant to use. The later versions just kept cramming in more and more features in order to try to please everyone - a phenomenon called feature bloat. IMO, Runescape is in the "feature bloat" phase of its life cycle, and Summoning is a prime example of said bloat. January 17, 200818 yr Ok, so summoning was very hyped for a while so it sounded good. I held my judgment. I was happy that they were making a new quest too. First thing i did was read the summoning familiars and pets sections. I was all "awesome" they looked great and they had ability's that seemed useful but i read on. i saw the xp for summoning and i thought huh? how do we train it then? must be a typo. but then there was pouches. what a horrible idea! :wall: This is what people have been waiting for? I'm glad I'm a non-member and i am not coming back to members for summoning if at all. I asked my friends about it and they all said it was expencive. but then i read the runescape forums and there were estimates of about 200mil to get to 99 just in shards (this was before the "balancing"). we don't need another skill that costs money! Has Jajex not learned from their past skills? it seems as if they added the worst parts of many of them. the slow training of farming/runecrafting, the tediousness of runecrafting (runecrafters sorry i still love runecrafting) the lack of xp for actully using the skill like prayer, the extreme cost like construction and a new one: the inability to gather your own resources i.e. shards. I really wanted this skill to be good. I hope they make dramatic changes to it. I think for starters they should make it even more hunter based. i expected the things i summoned to be from materials gathered from hunter, as they said in the development diary that it would be to hunter as mining is to smithing. Did they lie to us? or are they just incredibly stupid? How much money do they think we make anyway that spending 200mil is justified? i have never nor will ever see that much and i'm lvl 91! i can't see how using them to train will be cost effective. I dearly hope i am wrong. My suggestion? stay at lvl 4 after the quest, get a puppy and enjoy the best part of summoning, the fact that you don't have to do it. P.s. first page woot Edit: i will henceforth refer to summoning as pouching

January 17, 200818 yr Oh. A tip it poll. I was expecting another jagex poll they'd hide if they didn't get good results.

Did they lie to us? or are they just incredibly stupid? That was just a beginning concept behind Summoning, a prototype. They never said it was going to be like that. And I don't think anyone should be calling JaGEx "incredibly stupid", seeing they made this amazing game.
January 17, 200818 yr hey if ya see em say congrats to Dark Dude 98 as he was the first to be on the highscores for summoning. (he was the first to 30)

Still i sincerely apologize for that remark i was mad.
January 17, 200818 yr i feel like the employees in the Office when Michael tells them they get a special surprise at the end of the day so they don't think about their bad health care plans...and at the end of the day he gives them ice cream sandwiches.
January 17, 200818 yr The skill is mediocre at best. Jagex managed to turn an awesome concept into a trudging mess of a system. They can't keep it simple; they had to add Charms and Shards and secondary items and Obelisks and Summoning Points and Scrolls. Ah! Why?!?!?!?! My biggest question, and I love it if someone could answer me, is Why don't we get experience for actually USING the skill? I mean, I feel like maybe they should continue to give such fast experience through Pouchmaking (yes I consider that fast exp) so people like me can continue to enjoy that. However, they claim summoning is profitable: no it's not. That's a huge lie, and they know it. But it would be profitable if we got Summoning experience to use the familiars. Therefore, with the addition of that experience to using them, people would BUY my Pouches and Scrolls and they'd get a bit slower experience along with monster drops, fun, variation, and Charm drops. I don't know, just what a big disappointment. I'm sick of appealing to Jagex and making excuses for them. They should be releasing good updates from the start. All they've done are sloppy updates lately (Duel Tournaments, Bounty Hunter, Summoning, Grand Exchange). What happened to the times when there would rarely be objection? They say they gave us a moneymaker, which is what we asked for; and thus they continue to lie to us. Summary: BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I should have expected it, though.
January 17, 200818 yr Oh. A tip it poll. I was expecting another jagex poll they'd hide if they didn't get good results.Really? When did they last hide a poll? And which one? If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?
January 17, 200818 yr where else can i get 0.1 xp for doing something? wouldn't it be fun training all your skills this way!!!! \
January 17, 200818 yr How can you make money from this again? Fight strictly in multi combat zones, while using pouches like a summoning nazi? January 17, 200818 yr Well, I guess it's good that Jagex are at least listening a little bit, i.e. reducing the cost of shards. What else do they need to do - a lot! However, I think the fact that you need to get charms from monsters and that they are untradeable is good. It means it's impossible to buy your way to 99. Obviously being rich will help a lot, but money alone won't get you there. However, as they made it this way, why is it necessary to have shards cost much at all? They should reduce the cost by a tenth, not just a half. Secondly, as has been previously said, you should get xp for summoning. In fact you should get some for every minute you have a summoned creature. That would make it worth doing. Next, the fighting creatures should fight everywhere, not just in multi-combat, should fight automatically, and should GIVE YOU COMBAT XP! Otherwise, what on earth is the point? At the moment they've just made another incredibly boring skill. i.e., go to canifis and buy 1,000 raw chickens. Tele to your house in taverly, run to the the obelisk, change 22 chickens to pouches, duelling ring to castle wars, pick up 22 more chickens, tele back to taverly etc.,etc. YAWN! Oh and I forgot spending a fortune on shards. Haven't we got enough skills like this?? I don't mind runecrafting because at least it makes you money, but this? PS If anyone knows a quicker way than the above, please post! I never know what to write in these signature-type things...
January 17, 200818 yr I voted 'it's okey' but it looks like a good skill but exp for it is insanely low (and other thing like charms and prices) apart from that i like the skill lots : --- Oh. A tip it poll. I was expecting another jagex poll they'd hide if they didn't get good results.Really? When did they last hide a poll? And which one? Do you like Farming :XD: most of the answers were No
