Might i ask two things:

 

Do you ever release any back or you always keep 'em...?

 

And if you keep them, how do you kill them? I saw you had hooked a couple of them, why? Why not use a less hurting technique when bringing them up?

 

Personally i could never use that spearfishing technique, partly since we don't have that type of fishing but also since it unnessecarily hurts the fish.

 

 

 

We do tag, but only for tournaments that specify too. Haven't done it in a while.

 

 

 

Whats wrong with spearfishing? It's the most economical way to kill a fish. You're able to choose which game you'd like to kill, meaning you can let the small ones grow. And 2, the fish isn't dieing slowly on a long line or crushed to death in a giant net. As an avid spearfisherman, I only shoot what I will eat or rid our reefs of our invasive species. I always, and everyone I dive with, kill the fish before its gills even reach the surface, we have knives to put the fish out of its misery instatnly, something you can't do trolling or with a net. We aren't unnecessarily hurting the fish, there are times when you can instantly kill the fish if you know where to aim, which is what we call a stone shot.

 

 

 

The gaff is the only way to get you can get the fish over the side of the boat, most of the time its too big to fit through the door on the side of the boat, but regardless, a gaff or meat hook will always be required. None of the fish is wasted, from the bones, to the head, to the fins. We always give away thousands of dollars of meat for free, only keeping what we can eat for ourselves. We never sell any of it.

 

 

 

When we get it on the boat, we use a special bat that has a point at the end which kills the fish instantly. If the fish is too big, we'll use a power head or something. We do drown fish, but the only times I've done that is when we have marlins 800lbs+ or if its bigger than the boat.
